But no, I’d keep Vini for the final. He’s more aggressive and better at winning the ball back. Even though Sander looks every bit a top prem midfielder now.

At first I thought this was a completely pointless and random question, then I realised it still is.

BUT. I'll entertain it. It seems a bit weird to choose Souza to be the one you take into battle after last season but the man has proved himself this season to be a proper midfield shit house. His Brazilian swagger sometimes pisses me off when he seems a bit arrogant on the ball and loses possession, but if you'd ask me to recall Sander getting proper stuck in with a sliding tackle, I couldn't give you an example. I don't hold anything against Sander, he was good at keeping hold of the ball physically and was bright for us. Without taking anything away from him, I'll choose Vini.

Berge was a really elegant footballer, but it has to be VS out of the two. Just look at the stats for United when Vini plays and doesn't for us. It's really noticeable how much better we are results wise when Vini is playing for us. Berge (and I really liked him) didn't affect us to the same degree. Different types of players though so maybe that has a bearing. Would have been nice to have had both in the same side but not to be.

As good a footballer as Berge was for us, Souza works a lot harder, especially in the more physical side of midfield.

Given how accurate Vini's shooting is (he almost always hits the target), it's a surprise that he only has 1 goal for us, whereas Berge scored more goals, especially in the promotion season.

Would have been nice to see this midfield last season, but it wasn't to be.

Let's take our blades tinted glasses off again. They are two very different players who could compliment each other but if we are to compare it's a no brainer. Sander in our championship season, oozed his way through showing class and elegance on the pitch at every opportunity(not dissimilar to vini, but just significantly ahead of him), he earned the right to a bigger move, but chose Burnley(odd), but even last year he looked streets ahead of Vini. A deserved move to Fulham came, very respectable and he's continuing to progress there. He's streets ahead of what we could look for. But back to my original point, it's like comparing two very different cogs.

A player like sander in our team this year, and Saturday is just a few afternoon pints with your mates watching Burnley or Leeds on the box. Quality is unrivalled.

Wonder if the prospect of playing for Vincent Kompany played a part in him choosing Burnley, wanting to learn from someone who was a fantastic player not too long ago.

A bit like how Lampard managed to get Mount, Tomori and Harry Wilson at Derby on loan, where they probably jumped at the chance to learn from Lampard.

Pretty good….think I agree with that.

It’s quite tricky to compare each player…based on consistency Souza is better than Berge….so I’d probably choose Souza
However Berge was more temperamental….could be fairly non existent/ poor one match like he wasn’t bothered or could be great the other
….think Berge had more potential and a higher ceiling. At his best he was a much better player than Vini….but his best was 1 in 5 games.

If we were playing standard Championship teams I’d choose Vini…..he’s more of a guarantee to help the team. If I was playing a good PL teams then I’d take the gamble and choose Berge and hope he’s having one of them days when he’s fired up and on it, then he can compete against very decent PL teams.

Fully agree with this. They’d make a brilliant double pivot in a 4-2-3-1.

Also feel they’d have great chemistry as an odd couple pair of detectives in a comedy thriller in the style of Lethal Weapon.

Vini all the way. When fully fit you get the same performance from him week in, week out. With Berge you got MOTM one game, totally ineffective and invisible for the next two to three. Consistency is key. You can't afford to carry a passenger in the play off final.
