Have we ever played a team three times in a row?

Feb 10 1900 v Wednesday (h) FAC2 (abandoned after 53)
Feb 17 1900 v Wednesday (h) FAC2 Drew 1-1
Feb 19 1900 v Wednesday (a) FAC2R Won 2-0

You really think a home less against Blackburn is on the cards? I know they've been in good form and we've struggled a bit, but I'm sure the players want to enter the playoffs on a high.

I would be really worried about our chances to get to Wembley if we lose next week.

Could be a tactic. Play second string, make it rough and tumble, see if we can get one or two of theirs sent off.

This is where Robinson could turn out to be a key player. He can keep going on hard until they bite. He might get sent off too and we'd have to switch it up for the play off semis, but everything has its cost.

It wasn't in a row but we played Blackburn 4 times in 92/93 season. 3 times in around 5 weeks.

We lost the league games, drew away in cup then beat them on penalties in replay. Similarly we could end up playing them 4 times this season aswell!

According to 11v11 the last time that this has happened was when we played Liverpool three times in 1946:

09-Mar-46 Sheffield United v Liverpool
16-Mar-46 Liverpool v Sheffield United
31-Aug-46 Sheffield United v Liverpool

Ignoring war leagues the last time was the Burnley matches Phil mentions.

1946
Stoke in FAC round 4 first leg 0-2
2nd leg home 3-2
League north at home 4-0

Although only friendlies we played Blackpool for 12 consecutive matches in Canada and New Zealand in 1965 😳

Yes

When we had all those replays with Arsenal in the FA Cup

Sorry. Are we at cross purposes. The thread is about playing teams in a row, in consecutive matches. There were loads of not v Liverpool matches between 16 Mar 1946 & 31 August 1946...

Not cross purposes exactly, just that it seems the 11v11 database isn't comprehensive. If you know of a better digital record I'd be interested to hear of it (I know The Complete Record book exists but wouldn't have had the patience to try and answer this manually).

There isn't. I'm about to hit retirement and would enjoy putting together a United digital database. However, I'm a technical ignoramus.

If anyone with technical skills would like to collaborate with me on that, send me a DM. Serious offer.

Nearest I can remember is Bury, 2 cup replays in January 1962. Played them 3 times in 9 days, but separated by an away league game at Villa 2 days before the third game.
Played 3rd game at Hillsbro'. I think we played in blue and white, but my memory is not what it was.

See report below

The local woman's non league side are playing a side back to back...on the same day! Just to get the season done in time 🤣
