You really think a home less against Blackburn is on the cards? I know they've been in good form and we've struggled a bit, but I'm sure the players want to enter the playoffs on a high.

Could be a tactic. Play second string, make it rough and tumble, see if we can get one or two of theirs sent off.

This is where Robinson could turn out to be a key player. He can keep going on hard until they bite. He might get sent off too and we'd have to switch it up for the play off semis, but everything has its cost.

It wasn't in a row but we played Blackburn 4 times in 92/93 season. 3 times in around 5 weeks.

We lost the league games, drew away in cup then beat them on penalties in replay. Similarly we could end up playing them 4 times this season aswell!

Not cross purposes exactly, just that it seems the 11v11 database isn't comprehensive. If you know of a better digital record I'd be interested to hear of it (I know The Complete Record book exists but wouldn't have had the patience to try and answer this manually).

There isn't. I'm about to hit retirement and would enjoy putting together a United digital database. However, I'm a technical ignoramus.

Nearest I can remember is Bury, 2 cup replays in January 1962. Played them 3 times in 9 days, but separated by an away league game at Villa 2 days before the third game.

Played 3rd game at Hillsbro'. I think we played in blue and white, but my memory is not what it was.

This was not a classic cup match by any means, but it stood out for 2 reasons:

1. It was strange to go to Hillsborough and watch United as the ‘home’ team. There was a good crowd, mainly Unitedites, with a few from Bury and presumably some Wednesdayites taking the opportunity to enjoy an extra visit to their ground and hope to see United giant-killed.
2. United showed great resilience. This was their 3rd game in 6 days, and just 2 days before they had been given a physical battering at...

Playing in blue and white is the stuff of nightmares! The programme (see @Silent Blade’s reply above) makes clear we were in red-and-white.

Yes we played a replay on Thursday beat Leeds away 2-1 on the Saturday and lost the 2nd replay 0-2 on the Monday one rest day between games was enough in 1961
