Sorry everyone, I didn't realise it was today. I was told it was tomorrow.

I haven't got time to watch it until tonight, so no doubt others will cover off what he says before I see it, so likely I won't do notes

Thanks Cappy for posting. Doesn't duck the criticism but:
  • Slightly over-eggs the 70% control as being evidence of a positive approach
  • Does admit to being poor in both boxes, not being good enough to win. Very poor set piece goals conceded, lacked focus
  • Puts a fair bit of blame on the defence and attacking players - 'they need to be better in both boxes' (talks about quality being there but not displayed)
(NB: I think most people would like a tiny bit more shared responsbility from the management that a poor performance may have been prompted by a poor team selection or defesive set up; or something along the lines of 'team set up or selection maybe wasnt quite right to get the best result in those games' - although TBF Wilder does mention...)
  • Needs quick adjustment to improve results (and maybe performances)
  • Reviewing the season as a whole not just last 3
(Also he looks quite up for it, and expect the players have been told, so I suspect we will start the game strongly)
 
The Coventry game we were at it right from the start and played the game at a high tempo.
Let’s hope the same applies this time as we have been going through the motions for the past three games. The buck stops with Wilder for that
 
Too nuanced to compare v Coventry. They're a totally different side to the three sides we've just faced who are all very similar (low block, limit space, few risks). We've looked pretty good in games where the opposition open up - wished someone would've asked him why we've (recently) continued to struggle against teams that are somewhat limited?
 
Agree to a certain extent but we did start at a higher tempo and were at it against Coventry. Against the other three we reverted to tip tap toe.
We struggle against limited teams as they pack the box as we do everything so bloody slowly it gives them time to organise and get their deck chairs out
 
I'd play Brooks. We are WAAAAAY to predictable against low blocks( listen to what other managers have said about us recently) Brooks will run at the opposition and at least try and make things happen rather than this turgid pass it sideways and backwards approach

FriethBlade would you go with JRS on one side and Brooks on the other ?
I'd be inclined to go 4-4-2 m8

So no acknowledgement then of the overall performances and inability to dominate against sides with vastly inferior squads, budgets etc.

Also sad to hear him talking about how jealous lots of other clubs will be of us. The reality is, we probably have the third highest wage bill, spent the third highest amount on agents fees and have the third best squad.
Wilder blowing his own trumpet is wearing thin.

He referenced Robinson "leading us as he has done all season" and Holding "not being up to speed" because he hasn't played enough games "because we were winning games of football." Well, we've lost our last 3 and it still doesn't sound like he'll be given a chance.

A disappointing follow-up to a poor week. I was hoping for a lot more, but he's still in "siege" mode and seems incapable of objective thinking.

Posted this elsewhere, but more relevant to this thread.

I wasn't impressed by the interview as said above.
Harking back to the Coventry performance being our "best of the season," yes - it probably was.
And before Coventry, Leeds & Middlesbrough also came to Bramall Lane with attacking intent and we are able to turn it over and transition into attack pretty well.

Those games are much less of an issue than the ones where sides sit in, let us have the ball and ask us how we're going to break them down.
There's a clear blueprint on how to play us now and we don't seem to have any answer for it.

I'm fully backing Wilder until the end of the season, but the lack of accountability for the last week and trotting out "the players need to be better in both boxes" as the primary excuse is really disappointing.

But worse of all, it sounds like he hasn't seen much wrong and "we go again" seems to be the plan.
We "had control against Plymouth and went for a second goal" (false) and "did enough to beat Millwall (false-ish).

He "isn't going to take a sledge hammer to what's got them here."

3 losses in a row requires more introspective thinking and a proper shake-up. Regardless of past results.
No good manager would ignore it.

He keeps talking so the interviewer can't ask many questions and being from radio Sheffield they never will, they need to be buddy buddy with the managers and go easy or they'll not get interviews, told us nothing we didn't already know
 
Can't believe he said that Robinson has been outstanding this season and has only had these 2 bad games recently!!!. Come on Chris - who have done a fantastic job this season - but you are trying to defend the indefensible!!!.

I think it told us a lot about his mindset.

I was hoping that he'd acknowledge how poor we've been, that we've not been able to control & dominate games against weaker opposition and haven't found ways of breaking teams down.

Instead, he harped on about "both boxes" as if it's all down to individuals not pulling rabbits out of hats.
It's bollocks.

What's happening between both boxes has been awful all season.

I'd have loved for him to have said,

"I've trusted the players and the system we've been playing, but it's clear that performances and now the results haven't been good enough and I have to hold my hands up on a lot of that.
We need to change it, and find different ways of getting on the front foot, and we will do.."

Surely he is right in saying that we have failed to take clear chances to put the Plymouth game to bed and possibly the other two.
I cannot see it is the manager’s fault if decent players fail with those sort of chances.
There are other criticisms of the management team but an inability to to finish lies squarely with individual players.

Our XG against Plymouth was 0.63. They're the worst team in the league.

We looked awful and disjointed throughout the match.

Anybody could pick the first XI and then rely on moments from individuals, but this team has lacked an attacking shape all season. We look totally uncoached in possession.
The total opposite to Wilder's 2019 team.
 
To tackle the White Elephant in the room. Not all the players will benefit from the club achieving promotion.
Some posters on this forum have been very vocal and sometimes unkind in evaluating the players ability to step up to the Premier League.
I'm sure all the players will be doing what they're paid to do.
But when the time comes, will they all find the motivation to go that extra mile to get the right result for the club?
I would be interested to find out people's views.
 
Hopefully it's all smoke and mirrors to deflect pressure off the team.

In the background he's screaming at them to stop slowing things down and go backwards every 10 seconds!

The Robinson comments are pure player protection. No point in throwing hin under a bus to get a pat on the back from us! He shouldn't be anywhere near the team mind you!

Spot on.

It has been "big moments in both boxes" (or whatever he said) that got us into the automatic places. But that's a reflection on a style of play where the balance of the game (in xG terms) is usually something like 1.5 vs. 1.2. If your star players turn 1.5 xG into 2 goals for and your star keeper keeps 1.2 xGA to 0 or 1 goals against, then you win games of football. But you're not dominating matches, you're not winning because of superior tactics.

And that's why the last week and a bit panned out the way it did.

Bangor, I think playing at home against teams in the lower half of the division that are just going to sit in we need to try something different. We need to get at teams and go past players drawing other defenders out freeing up space in the box.

Brooks is one of the few players we have who can beat defenders one on one. Him and JRS would cause a lot of problems and with 4 at the back and Souza or Choudhury sitting deep it's worth the risk as we have to beat Cardiff.
 
I’m becoming increasingly fed up with him.
Leaving aside his antics off the pitch, which are at best are cringeworthy and at worst totally lacking in professionalism, his failure to own anything, or take responsibility for the mistakes in team selection and tactics, is really starting to grate.
In no way, were we ever in control of any of the 3 games, we’ve just lost.To say this is just not true, and none of us who were at the games, saw that.
He trots out possession stats, which by his own admission in his post Hillsboro rant, means nothing.We let Oxford dominate us for the whole of the first half.Fact!
We were too pedestrian and slow paced, and for large parts of the game v Millwall,had Peck trying to do the work of 3 men in midfield, thanks to his poor team selection.Did he not see that Millwall could have had 3 or 4, if they could finish.
Plymouth’s game plan was to cede possession, which they have done with teams all season, and play on the break.If he doesn’t know that or see that then God help us.He can’t really take credit for winning the possession stat, when the opposition willingly give it to you, and then play the sucker ball.
To be fair Wilder deserves great credit for getting us to where we were 3 games ago.We still have a chance, to put things right, and I’ll be cheering loudly on Friday and the rest of the season in the hope we can.But our chances, would be much increased if Wilder,at least privately, if he can’t do it publicly, showed some humility, and acknowledges and addresses his part in our current poor performances.

My wife, who neither likes or cares about football, suggested the same. And also that they might not want to go up if they’re going to get thrashed every week like last time. Maybe she knows more about football than I thought 😂

There were two clear chances which should have been scored. Had either gone in we would have gone on to win.
However I agree that we do look lacking when in possession. Is that poor coaching or simply a lack of ability?
