it’s embarrassing to see. We’re 3rd in the table, way higher than anyone expected this year. We’ve had 3 really cruel games and so many fans have just completely spat the dummy out. Who on earth do you think would do a better job with this squad? How totally delusional do you have to be to think this team should be higher than what it is? It makes us look pathetic.

😂😂😂 “cruel games” define cruel?

Cruel implies we were in with a shout, and cruelly lost. Reality is we were absolutely disgusting in every single one, losing to two teams around the bottom of the league, one in and around the play offs.

Who’d do a better job? Here’s three:

Cooper
Manning
Rosenior

We’d be higher. If we hadn’t completely bottled it against the bottom of the league (with the worse defence in the league), another team around the bottom (also a shite defence) and a team in and around the play offs (with players nowhere near ours in quality).

Is it delusion, or truth?

There are many things I have disagreed with on these many, many threads since Saturday night.

But one recurring comment - 'We are 3rd in the table - way higher than anyone expected at the start of the season'

I had a total belief in August that we would be promoted automatically.

There must be others out there who shared that belief.

Yep.

Nope. I expected top 3 but hoped for automatic, based on Burnley having to do a much bigger rebuild than us. I expected Leeds to go up automatically. I didn’t expect Burnley to be as good defensively as they have been & another difference is that they had a better January than us.

Don't know about cruel games, more like relatively easy games.
Is it delusional to expect more points than 0 from playing Oxford, Millwall and Plymouth ?

Not sure where this idea of us as rogue outsiders who are overperforming thanks to Wilder the miracle-worker are coming from. Our team is filled with players that cost £5m, £10m, £20m+. I know we've lost players and had to rebuild, but how many other teams in this league have £35m worth of strikers sitting on their bench most weeks?

17.3% predicted automatic promotion.

So you’re saying the squad of players were mid/bottom champ quality?

The squad has got great players.
Jan transfer window was a disaster. That’s on Wilder.
Tactics. Nullifying attacking threat we have. That’s on Wilder.

It’s not Wilders fault though. It’s the players and fans.

“Oh Chrissy Wilder. He’s one of his own”.

I actually thought we would win the play off final ! My season continues !!

He's a victim of his own success, we didn't expect much from such a paper thin squad. But now promotion is in touching distance, you don't just keep watching the car crash unfold because we're higher than we expected to be.
We are not higher than many of us expected to be.

Who would do a better job? knowsnowt, for one.

None of them would take the job.

We have the best manager available and willing to managed us in charge.
Cooper definitely would.

Manning probably would (dependant on outcome of play offs)

Rosenior would be a toughy.

If you think Wilder is the best we can achieve then we may as well pack up

You seem to take pleasure in mocking our own supporters singing that Wilder is one of our own, I don’t get that, he is one of our own and is probably the most successful United manager in the modern era. Without pts deduction we’re 3 pts off top with Burnley to play.

Be realistic, we’re a championship club, who can attract championship managers, who will not always get everything correct.

People forget wilder took this club to a 9th place finish.

Millwall are 2nd in form table, Plymouth have only got 9pts away from home all year and have relied on home form, where they’ve beat Liverpool this season and have had a knack of scoring late. Oxford away, a team fighting for their lives with Rowett in charge is never ever going to be an easy game!

Wilder is the new Micky Adams now, didn't you get the memo?

17.5% expected auto promotion apparently, so he’s doing better than 82.5% of people expectations
That’s not quite right, is it? Quite a few of us expected top 3 but not necessarily automatic. And expectations change with developments, last August isn’t set in concrete.

I have a few observations and thoughts I need to open to a wider audience....these are not knee-jerk based on the past 3 games alone although some have been starkly highlighted in those games too...

1. Cooper. An excellent goalkeeper no doubt but at present his distribution isn't top drawer and this unfortunately causes problems because he goes for the safe distribution option - that being a short pass to one of our defenders. As only Anel looks comfortable running out of defence with the ball this can often result in our defenders playing the ball across the defensive line. Not only does this cause issues against teams who press high up the pitch it also gives the opposition plenty of time to get in their defensive shape.

2. JLT. Nothing against him personally but we really needed to replace Soutts with similar quality and presence. JLT should not be starting. Full stop. He should also stop fan baiting. Don't know if he's demonstrating loyalty with CW but it's not what I want to see from our captain.

3. CW. His response after the Oxford game to a few of our "fans" having a pop at the players after the game was just plain WRONG. The selection of Tom Cannon for the Plymouth game was baffling in the extreme too. Tyrese should have started up top.

4. Our midfield....Gus flatters to deceive and is guilty of giving away possession far too often for someone of his calibre, Vini appears to be a poppadom in human form, Sydie is still learning his trade, and, COH is not, I repeat, NOT a winger.

Tell me I'm wrong...

How do you know none of them would? I think Cooper would take it now we have new owners who seem to be willing to spend on the squad.

Cooper will probably end up at Southampton, Rosenior will stay in France and I don't think Manning is a better manager than Wilder.

Now you have pointed that out its a wonder we have managed to get any points at all never mind 83,

We're in 3rd, I hate to break this to you but that's not automatic promotion. Its looking like Play-Offs Agony is the likely outcome
