Cheeky small ball bid for all 3 of Gassama, 19 year old future goalkeeper Pierce Charles and 15 year old Caelan Cadamarteri?

1 mill for all 3 should just about do it 😉

What are you getting with the rest of the money once you’ve got them!

Despite pig fans telling everyone how good some of their players are, I don’t see one of them who can make the step up and I include Gassama in that

I think both Cadamarteris would be out of consideration since their father is senior in our academy. I suspect the reason they aren't with us in the first place may have something to do with that.

I say no to all three.

I know sod all about some 15-year old in the Piglet academy, so he can stay there.

The lad Charles hasn't shown himself to be much better than their other keeper so far. Cooper is drastically better than either of them anyway. I'd rather us get in an old head with PL experience if we went up, who isn't likely to demand much game time.

Gassama is not good enough for anything beyond where he is now I think. Low-mid Championship standard. 7 goals this season, but he's made 38 appearances. He's admittedly exceeding his xG so far, but that's not unusual. More worthwhile to look at, is that despite him having 63 shots so far this season, his total xG is only 5.4. That works out at around 0.08xG per shot. So he's seemingly often taking shots on from positions where he is quite unlikely to score. Not an ideal attribute.

He does not appear to be any better at creating goals, rather than scoring them. He only has 1 assist so far this season. He's played 2,636 minutes for that. In comparison, he managed 3 assists last season from nearly half as much match time (1,475 mins).

He's at 2.4 expected Assists so far this year, so he's way under on that front. Only 7 Goal Creating Actions so far (the 2 actions which precede a goal being scored - not necessarily the assist itself). To compare, the 3 top assisters in the league (Finn Azaz, Tom Fellows, Jack Rudoni - all 11 assists each), all have at least double that number. And considering Wednesday have a comparable amount of goals scored to those players' teams (56 for Weds - 49/58/61 for WBA/Cov/M'boro respectively), you'd want him to be a bigger contributor than that.

And he appears to be quite poor as a dribbler as well. He has the third highest number of attempted take-ons in the entire Championship (148), with the 128th best success rate (41.9%). The most comparable player here would be the lad Solomon at Leeds. He has the 23rd highest success rate (54.5%), but nobody higher has attempted nearly as many take-ons as him (112). There is also Chakvetadze and Mikey Johnston, both with over 130 take-on attempts, and both with more than 49% success rate.

I'm sure an argument could be made for how Gassama is still a young lad, and thus has room to improve. But I think we could do far better in this area. No need to go for a middling Championship player, when we could potentially scout the continent and find people who have a much better starting point.
