Maybe, but that doesn't affect how the players relate to each other. For example, Lunny was supposedly one of George Baldock's best mates , so how they relate to the club and each other can be completely different.
It's an occasion for Bash, other stuff doesn't really matter.

Testimonials were introduced as a reward for loyal players who earned next to nothing in their career.
Today's big earning players don't really need a testimonial, any ex players that are given one should donate a big chunk to charity.
