If we get promoted, do we stick with Wilder?

Should Chris Wilder remain as Sheffield United manager if we get promoted?

  • Yes

  • No

  • Give him until Christmas, I think he deserves one last chance given what he has done this season.

I’ll be honest though, does anyone else agree that if we get promoted and then throw Wilder out the door immediately it’s a little bit disrespectful to him? Boyhood blade, turned the squad around season with a -2 points deduction. I feel like he would have earned himself one last chance.

Our opinion is irrelevant. But he won't last until Christmas. These owners owe him nothing.

He is not a good manager tactically anymore and very stubborn so won't resolve that in lieu of a younger coach to help him with fresh ideas.

I would stick with Wilder but I wouldn’t let him buy anybody over a million. We need a Director of Football because all Wilder will do will lumber us with more failed high transfer fee flops.

3 words if we go up..."recruitment, recruitment, recruitment ". If we recruit like the last time we we're in the big time, bar Hamer, we are f'd. So.....all depends on the moneh

Only reason to stick with Wilder is is we miss out on promotion. Another season of negative tactics and grinding out wins by 1 goal then hanging on. PL clubs are monitoring Campbell so Wilders new star buy will be leading the race for goals

Surely option 1 & 3 amount to the same thing?
Not really, a straight “Yes” is fully backing that you want him in charge in the Prem whereas give him until Christmas is basically saying you aren’t overly confident but you would chance it and see how we are doing around Christmas time.

Might as well sack him! No promoted club stands a hope in hell of staying up after spending nothing.

No,
But it's as good as it gets, Wilder is a busted flush, all he's doing now is boring everyone and pissing people off.
The 1-0 win against Preston and he'd have gone to bed thinking what a tactical genius he is, to stifle a Preston team who didn't even need stifling.

A manager who is quite happy to beat the teams in this League who have no intention of trying to win, in the most drab, boring, non confidence inducing manner possible, and is then totally out of his depth against a team who fancy having a go.

Next season would be worse than last if we go up because he just doesn't learn.

Makes you wonder whether Chris Basham and Jack O'Connell in the good old days of overlapping centre backs just listened to him in the dressing room, walked on the pitch and said "Fuck that stupid cunt, let's do it our way"

I don’t mean spend nothing, any fee over a million would go to DOF to decide. I don’t trust Wilder with millions to spend.

I suspect it will depend on how his vision for the first team differs to the owners. On purely footballing terms, I don't think you can sack him if he takes us up. But it would be the other stuff. Namely his willingness to buy foreigners.

Any manager who gets a team promoted deserves a chance at the higher level, even if just until the end of the calendar year.

Wilder isn't the same as he was when he took us up last time, but he might still have enough about him to have a go at PL again, with a new group of players and some momentum.

It's great we are top of the league but I don't see what pattern or style of play he is aiming for. This team is closer to Hecky's play in the moment sort of style. Hope a start player like a Hamer or a Campbell wins the match.

In the first few matches of the season I thought we were going to be an exciting counter attacking team. We did Hull and Preston away perfectly on the counter attack with some great one touch football from their own corners. All while with a solid defence to back it up.

Now we play in moments and we may or may not defend well depending on if Anel and Robbo are awake or not. This may see us get promoted but I don't see this style doing anything to upset a Premier League team.

What’s disrespectful about it? You can’t keep a manager in place that is out of his depth because you feel you owe him some gratitude. He’s either up to managing at that level or isn’t. He got a 4mill pay off for walking out on us last time and will get a nice settlement if we replace him again.

I would normally agree with this, but after two embarrassing relegations in recent years I think that should change our strategy.

The question would be if the owners feel that Wilder is the best man to keep us up or is there another manager option that would be better. If it’s the latter then unfortunately, it’s time to move on.

I can see Leeds being this way with Farke as his Premier League record isn’t good.

If set our stall out for relegation like we did last time then there’s no point in getting rid, if we want to stay up and stay there for more than a fleeting visit then we need to overhaul the whole philosophy of the club.

My money’s on the former happening so we may as well keep him.

Would give him until Christmas at least as any manager managing a promoted team will struggle in the premier league, especially with the gap getting wider.

That being said, who would we bring in to replace him if we do let him go, there's not a single realistic name that I can think of that would keep us up next season.

Another stupid poll!

Agree…if we’re promoted then of course he’ll still be the manager.
He’s knows the league and know exactly what’s needed
…..so we’ll do the same as what we did with Hecky….he’ll be given a chance until staying up starts slipping away.

If we give him until Christmas then we are down. He needs to be gone by October/November to give us a fighting chance

But by then he will have brought his players in, which might not be the next managers choice, which then leads to relegation again, and possibly another manager! And then the spiral continues.

I’d sack him as soon as the P gets put next to our name if we achieve promotion.

A classic victim of his own success. Not even mid rebuild and top of the league with a Sheff derby victory in his pocket. If he was achieving par this thread wouldn't exist. If we go up we will come down regardless of manager, but hopefully with contract extensions for our better players and some more quality brought in to have a better go of it the next time.

Try explaining that to the average Blade in Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan next season (if promoted) and you'll find you'll have more luck explaining"why you aren't massive" to the average pig fan.
