Once again, I missed something with Clarke.
He did Ok with us and I'd be happy to sign him. To talk about giving away our only saleable asset for a player who cant get a look in in a run of the mill second division side sounds strange to me.
Over the years we've seen loads of players come and impress for a short period, and turn shite once the inks dried. Imagine if Quinn had been on loan with us during the first few months of the season. We'd be frothing at the mouth at the prospect of signing him now. Now it seems many would drive him to Blackpool.

I agree Quinn often flatters to deceive. It's a shame we can't get his game more consistent. It’s the suggestion that we should give away the only player that others deem worth anything in return for a second division reserve that’s surprising.

Why is everyone misusing the phrase "flatters to deceive"? Have any of you actually any idea what it really means?
Just who is he flattering with those flicks and stepovers? The fans? Who is he trying to deceive?
Actually, I'm wrong. Terribly wrong. You're really very clever. You haven't missed the point of the saying at all. You're too clever for me.
*whoosh!!*
Try looking it up.
Events last night may have put paid to anything happening re Quinn/Clarke![]()
THERE has been no approach from Sheffield United for Billy Clarke, and John Gregory has warned Nigel Clough he can think again if he expects to land the Reds’ forward.
The Blades boss confirmed Clarke, who can play up front, in the hole or on the wing, was "one name on a list", but no move materialised before the transfer window shut at 11pm on Friday.
However, with the loan window opening on February 8, Clough told a Sheffield-based newspaper he was still interested in taking Clarke to Bramall Lane.
“Billy is one of a number of names,” Clough told www.thestar.co.uk. “But we haven’t really progressed anything yet so we’ll see what happens next week.
“We’re looking for something a little bit different and we have a few people in mind.”
However, Gregory was unimpressed with Clough’s public declarations about the former Republic of Ireland U21 international, adding that United had not contacted him during the transfer window.
“He [Clough] never spoke to me about Billy,” Gregory said. “I think Nigel Clough told a local journalist up there about one or two players he was interested in, and that included Billy, although I don’t know why he’d be so public about it.
“There has been no approach and Billy is a player I’m a big fan of, so it’d have to be £5million if they want him.”
thought he was a good loan for us
