As always, if you watch the SUFC ones on the club website, you'll need to log in.

Wilder is live on Friday at 0900. Link below 👇 I will do some notes once I've seen it

Usually I would upload the presser replay, any QPR presser vids, and SUFC YouTube presser clips as and when the clubs post them, but I will be heading to the hospital at 1030 on Friday for a long-awaited major operation, so if you come across anything, stick it in the thread. I'm missing QPR and breaking my 28-game streak for this op, so it better be good !

QPR usually put their full pre-match pressers on their YouTube channel, here

First of all, I just have to say what an incredible incredible job Marti has done there, he's much better than me and his players are much better than mine too. I've told the lads this and we're under no illusions that it's going to be an unbelievably hard game so if we can nick something that would be incredible but I'm sure everyone expects us to get beat and I fully understand why, because QPR are just great

Good luck with the op mate. You said it's "major"! Well, obviously hope all goes well and you recuperate fully.

As a bit (lot?) of an old dinosaur (I still miss queuing in the rain outside the papershop for a green'un, then having a couple of pints in the local reading it for an hour), I don't really read blogs, vlogs or wannabe celebs summaries of games etc on t'interweb, but your contribution in this thread I find excellent. You very clearly and precisely summarise the full presser. Having read your stuff, then watched the presser afterwards, you don't miss much - if owt!!

So now, rather than spending half an hour or so of my day watching a load of half arsed questions and semi waffled answers, I save myself the time and cut to the point by just reading your summary!

Me too. I'd much rather read a summary of just how hard Wilder rims the opposition, than have to listen to him doing it

Well, me, I like to focus on the fact that he's completely rebuilt the squad and got us 2nd in the league, 2 points in front of 3rd after a -2 deduction. But hey, each to their own.

Injuries & Absences:
  • Gilchrist "has been doing his rehab at Chelsea, so is maybe a couple of weeks away from joining the first team. He turned his ankle over in training. Something you can't avoid as you need to train with intensity to set yourself up for the weekend. He'll be OK. Touch and go for the Sheffield Wednesday game, with an international break after that"
  • Femi Seriki "is back with the group and will be be involved on Saturday"
  • "We are assessing Clarke. He was struggling to sprint [in the Leeds game]."
  • "Everyone else is OK" following the Leeds game
  • "Shackleton is back with the group and will be involved on Saturday. He is travelling [to QPR] today" (Cappy: he was in the U21s game the other day)
  • Having Kieffer Moore back will be "huge" for the run in
  • "We've only really got Arblaster out for a long period"
  • Nothing asked about Jeff and the thoughts on him joining the first team yet after some decent bits an pieces (and 2 goals?) in the U21s

Reflecting on Leeds:
  • "Tight game against a really good side"
  • "I enjoyed watching my team. We went toe to toe and just came up a little bit short"
  • "Disappointed in the manner of the goals", mentioning the set piece for Leeds' second.
  • "We just got pushed back by a really good team"
  • "In the debrief we discussed should we have gone 4-5-1 [to see it out]" but he felt it was running out to a draw
  • Has there been a need for any pep talks to pick the players up? "The feeling and vibe around the place [is good]." He told the players, "you've got every right to feel alright about yourselves" due to their performances
  • History suggests the team respond well to losses, "Let's get on to what we need to do. Get three points [against QPR]. It's about an accumulation of points." He talked about every game being tough, calling out Stoke away at the end of the season and, even if they are mid-table, there is "no way Mark Robins lets us walk into his back garden [and easily get the points]"
  • He complimented the referee's performance in the game, saying he'd "rather have it that way", letting things go, wishing other refs would do the same, asking for consistency.
  • He pointed out the Leeds players running on the pitch when the goals went in, hinting that it's fine, saying Farke shouldn't have been booked when he did it against Sunderland
  • "Slight criticism about Monday was we played well and didn't get anything from the game. The "detail" on their equaliser (set piece). The team have been reminded. "We've been very good on the detail and [he believes] we will get that right for the rest of the season"

QPR:
  • Will we look at Jimmy Dunne in the future? "We made a bid for him and QPR have every right to turn it down. [Given he is] out of contract in the Summer, we put a reasonable bid in. We got Rob Holding instead and he is really pushing. Anel and Jack understand they need to play really well [to keep their place]. If we go to a back 3 in certain games, Rob is banging on the door. He's in really good shape. His mentality is fabulous. To have him amongst us is [great]. He's a team player."
  • He said the usual complimentary things about an opposition team, but also that we are top of the away form table.
  • "Take the positives from Monday night's performance into Saturday"
  • "It's a ground I always enjoy going to and so do the fans. A shame we didn't get more tickets"
  • "If we win on Saturday, I think we'll have enough points for the playoffs. If we get that we review our targets after that"
  • "We need to approach the next game in the fashion we approached the last one"

General:
  • "We have [great] belief in the process, in the group. We're in for a very exciting finish [to the season]"
  • "There'll be some nervousness amongst the supporters, but we have to embrace and enjoy [the positive season we are having]", mentioning some bad times from past seasons.
  • Does having players like Rob Holding around make it easier for you as a coaching staff. "Oh yeah. His quality in everything he does", mentioning his standards of training, "Monday to Friday", and he is one of the "culture carriers". "He's a great example to the young kids, the things he does to get himself ready for every training session and [if he gets an opportunity] in a match"
  • "The personality of the group is chalk and cheese [compared to last season]"
  • "I'm not the only manager who talks about culture", naming a few others, "it isn't just about how many passes you can stitch together, how many times you can break the lines, or the other things I need to look up in the new bible. It's [also] about culture and wanting to win"
  • Is it going to be about which team is bravest in the run in? How important is bravery? "You've got to be bold. The players have to be bold. Experience will be key, togetherness will be key, support will be really key. A bit of luck will be key, keep your best players fit and healthy. Everyone has got the bit between their teeth"
  • How do you make sure you don't get disheartened if Burnley pass you in the next few games, putting you in a playoff position. "We aren't behind them. If they lose and we win, they're 5 points behind us. It's hypothetical". He wasn't being arsey, this was a question from someone who clearly was a junior, and he was just giving him a lesson in a straight bat

Interviewers: Andy Giddings, Danny Hall, James Shield. Who were the last two interviewers at the end? Students/juniors perhaps? I caught one first name, Heather, but missed the lad's name

Sounds like maybe we should start Holding then

And any bravery contest between us and Burnley would be a 'tallest dwarf' scenario

Good luck Cappy

The big negative for me there is that he seems to be implying that Anel & Robinson are what we will continue to pursue unless we move to a back 3, or their performance levels drop... I think their performance level as a pair has already dropped, so it says to me that he doesn't think Holding is ready / up to it in a 2.

I hope I'm wrong.

It still feels like the glaring mistake we made in January.

Cheers Cappy 👍

Femi Seriki "is back with the group and will be be involved on Saturday"

😍😍😍

Thanks Cappy and good luck for the op.

Just a point of order for CW re Clarke he said ' We are assessing Clarke he was struggling to sprint in the Leeds game'......should that have read.....'he's struggled to sprint in every game he's played' ?

Good news that Seriki might be ready to play very soon

Will be a tough one, think QPR have won something like 7 out of their last 8 home games

Thanks for the summary Cappy . After spending at least 40 mins trying to negotiate how to communicate to British Gas that I have water dripping out of my gas boiler, it's a relief for something to be made simple for me! Hope all goes well with the op

That's more like it, talking us up, we can still beat Leeds to the title, 9 more wins and we will be champions I reckon

Fuck Leeds
Fuck Burnley
