Stretchered off in the 36th minute with what apparently looked a serious knee injury. Dissappointing as it would have been good for him to get game time. I for one would have liked him to have a chance in place of McGinn whose been poor of late.

I really cant see this craving for Cuvelier. He has looked a passenger everytime he has played for us ,not in the same league as Mcginn for me.

Its ok he is insured for 500 quid a week and his boots wont need cleaning

If only, we didn't pay the insurance premium, the Prince had already spent his £1 pocket money buying a fantasy team. He only gets his spending money once a year.

On a serious not hope it's not too serious for him.

You can't see that he did very well at previous clubs and therefore some of us are hopeful that under a different boss he'd flourish? Like Baxter and Murphy for instance?

Cuvelier did nothing in the games he played. He looked lightweight, slow and the games just passed him by. Thought he was dire. Sorry to state the truth but a few you tube videos and apparently a good loan spell at Walsall does not automatically mean he can play. He looked like a player that when it come to a scrap he was not interested. Remember watching him at Carlisle and he actually bottled 2 or 3 50/50 challenges and said : 'he does not want to know.'

I don't think McGinn is great but he offers more than him in the games I have seen. I would like Coady to have a run in the team as at least he does score goals and has energy/mobility that the others do not.

As Mr Phipps has said - there is still a future for the players out on loan if they come back improved. Cuvelier is only 21 - so even if he's not performing now, he could be running the show next year.

Jim now sees the future, is there no end to this blokes amazing talents? :)

There is no 'truth' there; there is an opinion.

Cuvelier did nothing in the games he played.

And just like a loan spell at Walsall, the above does not mean we should write him off.

Does he know how to turn the lights off;).

I have no knowledge that he did well for previous clubs never having seen or taken any notice of him.
I would have thought the different boss would also have wanted this but has decided it wasn't going to happen.
I still am not convinced either Murphy or Baxter is "out of the woods" yet regarding their long term here.

I do know that EVERY time I've seen him pull on the red and white stripes I have been greatly dissappointed (less so with each passing game as my expectations dropped). Over the years I've learned that believing your own eyes rather than other people opinions is second to none when assessing a player.
I hope he comes back pre-season and lights the place up, I won't be holding my breath though.

That's fair enough Grecs, I think I'm just perplexed by posters who write players off full stop when they're in the process of reassessing other players' ability under a new manager.

Murphy is a fantastic example of this. I'm 99.99999% certain that Deaders will have lamented his performances under previous managers and expect to look at previous reports where he's suggested that he's only any good in Scotland. In the report for the loss against Notts County he said one of the reasons we lost was due to Murphy being left out.

So, where is the second chance for Cuvelier when he's only played under an awful manager in a club with shit all confidence? If these posters were the manager, players like Baxter and Murphy would most likely have been shown the door by now.

In fact, on the first report I looked at:

We need to see if we can get anything back for him [Murphy] and send him back to Scotland. He ain’t good enough and worse than that has no heart for the battle.

Meanwhile, against Bradford:

If he retains his form of today he can be a major positive in the end to the season but needs a run of games. He cannot be taken out of the team week in, week out and expect to keep good form up.

Now, I don't mean to pick on Deaders as due to his excellent reports, his words can be picked over more than anyone else. But it just goes to show how a players' form can be so massively different in another role and under a different boss.

When there is evidence to the contrary that Cuvelier played well while on loan elsewhere (and even had Stoke supporters disappointed to see him go), why would we not give him some benefit of the doubt given other players' form?

and I don't disagree with the principle Houso (unless I'm on the point of inducing a flounce . . . ) but it isn't the fans who have outed him to PV without a chance under the new manager, it's NC (and I'm 100% not one of those who believes in the "he must know better coz he's a manager and they all know lots and lots about footy" bollocks).
If he doesn't fancy him right now in the face of a relegation scrap then best he gets someone in he does fancy and then it'll be down to him if it all goes tits!

Accepting the manager's judgement is fair I suppose... although Doyle is still a regular so he gets the benefit of the doubt and no more.

I'm not one of these who thinks his past means he's good, I just don't think he's had enough of a chance, which I don't see as fair when McGinn (who I believe is a good player) is in poor form. If we're talking people who bottle challengs you need look no further than McGinn who constantly shirks a challenge. How Baxter isn't 'out of the woods' I don't know. He and Harry are our best players! I also feel Murphy had earned his plac and is out of the woods.

Read one or two comments on Vale's board and they seemed to think he looked quality, but a bit rusty..and definately not match fit and they no what he did down the road at Walsall...Partick fans are saying the same about Taylor,in that after 70mins he looked dead on his feet.
Best thing for Cuvelier and the others,is to get out on loan and get games, and match fit...not really fair to judge him on a couple of games, when he's not had a proper preseason, and hardly played.Hopefully the injury he picked up isn't as bad as first thought, and he gets games and rediscovers his form...then maybe he'll get another chance at the Lane.

Really? Baxter is our best player by a mile. He is the only player with bags of natural ability, intelligence and creativity. I honestly feel sorry for him most of the time when he plays for us. He might have been a slow starter, but we've shown that once we give him a run in the side he's head and shoulders above everyone (even Maguire, and I love Maguire).

Some players have improved dramatically of late but that's only saying so much as most of them were shocking prior to the change of manager. I wouldn't consider anyone to be "out of the woods" yet, they will all be when we're safe.

The only player I could rate anywhere close to an acceptable level of consistency is Harry Maguire. If I was going to name our best player it would be him. The only one I honestly feel we can rely on most weeks.

Dont know what fitness training we do but we are clearly not fit enough all the way through the squad. Certainly not to the standard that we were when Tony Daly was fitness coach

It was obvious under Weir that fitness was lacking. I'm sure I remember Clough saying it was one area he wanted to improve. Not sure how he's done so far? We still don't look like scoring in the last few minutes.

Yep, really.

I can see he has attributes that others don't, and which I admire. I don't think he dominates the game though, like these attributes should let him, and I think he gets tired far too early (around the hour mark) in every game.
I'm sure NC will give him time to iron these things out BUT, I suspect, he will expect better things from him next season and if he doesn't deliver he will be replaced. That's why I don't think he's "bomb proof".

I think he has the tools, I'm not sure about the desire to use them properly.

He's confirmed as being out for the season with knee ligament damage according to a journalist on twitter.

He's torn his anterior cruciate ligament.

He's just tweeted himself. Big blow for any professional footballer. Wish him a full recovery.

We send players out on loan and they either don't perform or they get injured.

Whose wage bill is he on for the remainder though?

Only ask because if he was one we needed to get off in order to bring someone in, have we now been scuppered?

Should be covered by our insurance.

Gutted for him. Whether here or Port Vale he needed to get some games but it looks like that won't happen until next season now. Here's to a quick and full recovery.

PS what is it with United and ACL injuries? Is there an unwritten rule that we have to have at least one player out with ACL damage?

01 2014 - ? Cuvelier
03 2013 - 01 2014 - De Girolamo
12 2012 - 10 2013 - Miller
03 2012 - 06 2013 - Jean-Francois
12 2010 - 03 2012 - Taylor
10 2010 - retired Morgan
02 2010 - retired France
05 2008 - 11 2009 Geary

Whatever we may think of how he's performed, terrible news for him and hoping the best for his recovery. Seems like he'll be out for first few months of next season too? Let's hope he comes back into a winning team at that time.
