Because we need a defender in his mould, we need one now, to try to get promoted and earn many millions more, and Dunne is as oven ready as it gets?
We need a defender, yes. But that doesn't mean we should be prepared to piss money away, just for the sake of it.

If reports are true, and our offer to QPR is a total of £2million, then you're wanting us to improve that offer by 50%. For someone who will potentially cost nothing in the summer (in terms of transfer fee at least), that's an incredibly poor approach.

If we manage to get promoted this season, we will need to do an absurd amount of business in the summer if we are to be more competitive than last season. In terms of both quality and quantity, our squad is severely lacking at a PL level. And I'm not sure going all out to get Dunne now would make any meaningful difference to that.

If QPR want the deal we've offered structuring differently I.e more money up front, then fine, let's try and work something out. But we shouldn't be throwing more money at them now

Holding isn't bad but it's an odd signing on loan. If we were signing him on a free id get it.

Take it Gilchrist misses out most weeks.

We will be looking at Holding on a loan deal as he will be on a very healthy contract with Palace. Bearing in mind the number of games he's played over theast few seasons, why would we commit ourselves to effectively taking on his very expensive contract, when we can take him on loan and 1) try before you buy to see if he can cope with regular football and if he is still a decent player 2) get Palace to pay an percentage of his weekly wage as they want him out of the door due to a bust up with the manager, and 3) if we do go up, we can assess then whether he's worth the gamble and committing ourselves to the financial package of brining him in on a permanent deal.

There are plenty of fans who would be going ape shit if we brought him in on a permanent deal and gave him a 2 and half year deal. If he proves himself first, the financial landscape changes I.e. we get promotion, then and only then should we be looking at taking him on a more permanent basis if all has gone well.

Holding played a full 90 on Jan 20 and 27 against Wolves & Norwich 21’s - so he is match fit - the 21s do a lot of running.

Holding is 6 ft 2 and put Haaland on the ground a few times in that vid on this thread.

Personally think he’s better than Dunne - but there is certainly a lot of unjustified criticism on here.

Rob Holding was decent for Arsenal but ive lost touch since

We don’t know what we were quoted on the Millwall lad it might not have been realistic.

A fan on the Millwall forum recently said if Tanganga was sold they should be looking for £15 million.
They all seem to agree that this season he’s excelled showing he’s too good for this division, so will be playing in the Premier league sooner or later.
I reckon Millwall would have wanted at least £10 million + big bonuses….but that’s cheap for someone who could possibly make the step up.

Agree with some of the others….no need to be down regards Holding.
Let’s not forget he’s played plenty of times representing one of the better teams (Arsenal) in the Premier league.

His career has totally stalled….so he’ll be hungry to show he’s still a Premier league level central defender.
There’s an element of risk becuase he’s done very little in the last 2 years
But it wouldn’t be a surprise if he shows that playing at Championship level is so easy for him and he excels.
Daft as it sounds….he could end up being a better signing than Tanganga or Dunne.

Spend 10m on Cannon, then refuse to spend an extra 1m or so to get Dunne, and instead saddle ourselves with someone who won't be up to speed until late March. Great stuff, very joined up. Good job we score so many goals, eh...?
How do you know he won’t be ready until late March?, have you been closely monitoring his fitness levels?.

And not too sure what the comment about goal scoring is all about given we have scored enough goals to win more matches than anyone else in the division.

That's around the same price they sold Esse to Palace for, think Burnley's obligation to buy Flemming is meant to be around £6/7 million.

Anything is better than playing Gilchrist at CB after watching him jump under that ball against Swansea when they scored. If Rob Holding is fit - which you indicate he is - then he’s probably as good as we get if we can’t get Tanganga.

In terms of what we're willing to spend we've set a massive precedent with Cannon. Not to mention 2 possible luxury signing wingers. We appear to have dispensed with any strict adherence to value for money, in favour of a pay what it takes approach

If Dunne is seen as a difference maker, which I think he is, and presumably Wilder thinks he is, then a deal rising to around 2.5m is far from unreasonable in the circumstances. We'd have a player instantly worth more who'd be a useful signing short and long term. One who, when out of contract, we may struggle to sign if still in the championship.... and then there's the bigger signing on fee

We’ve pissed away 10M for a striker that we didn’t really need. Yet we can’t stump up a decent amount for a position we’re in critical need of? Crazy.

We seem to take a long time to get players ready to start games and Holding has not played regular football at this level for a long time. Mid season, mid promotion push, this is far from ideal

The goalscoring comment is to take into account that we've conceded over 1 a game since Souttar, and never score more than 2. Keep that up, and we'll drop a lot of points. So we could do with a defender to come in and improve us, at both ends ideally, immediately. Dunne's aerial strength would do that

So if we didn’t need a striker, why have you been banging on about signing one from Wycombe all transfer window? 🤣
Always worth a punt init? Rather punt for one at a lower price (and better return) than the one we’ve gone for (who doesn’t really suit or have attributes needed to play on his own up top)

Moores had the op from Cannon coming in, Campbell is back in the squad, BBD can play there (and has for us previously) Brewsters the best striker in the league.
Who would start up front for you if we didn't have cannon?
