Seriki

Might have a chance to see against WBA
Definitely, the back four looked ok after the reshape. Cooper had little to do in the 2nd half but what he had to do was calm and confident. That comes from the players in front of you as well.

I think we’ll see the return of the three. Gilchrist, Robbo, RND. We’re away at a decent side with points in the bag this month, both recognised centre halves out, 3-4-3, with Seriki and Burrows running the full length of the pitch each side, probably O’Hare missing out.

I sincerely hope not.

Especially since RND still looks miles off the pace fitness wise.

Need Bergen Blade for this one. Did JR-S just move inside, or did the system change all together? Looked like a 4-2-2-1 after the change, with Hamer and JR-S moving inside after the 4-4-1 we started the 2nd half with.

Either way I think you're right, the reason was to create space for Femi and he used it well.

It wasn't easy to assess, as there were bigger gaps than normal, leading to players having to move more out of position to press, mark and chase.

But you're right in that we started with 4-4-1 after the break. When we had the ball Hamer and JRS both played like tens, but this evolved and for a spell it looked like Hamer dropped a bit deeper while JRS remained in a number ten role behind Campbell - so a bit like 4-3-1-1. I'm not sure the management made that specific change, or if they just told Hamer to drop back a bit if Sunderland got on top.

When Davies and One came on it looked more like a narrow 4-4-1 again with Hamer right and Davies left.

I think it's our only option really. We're a very small side without Souttar, Anel, Moore. Getting an extra defender in while allowing both Burrows and Seriki to push up seems like a decent approach.

Think it’s worth a mention…..one of the highlights of today’s match came from Sereki.

Shortly after coming in as sub he had this amazing direct run from the corner flag area towards their penalty area
going past 3 defenders, nut megging the first one, showing fantastic pace and confidence going past the others.

It reminded me of prime time Ronaldo, a few around me on the Kop were laughing at his outrageous skill.

We were also laughing saying his progress this season is so vast, that in 3 or 4 years he might be playing regularly for Man City or Liverpool
And when he’s world famous, we’ll all be saying “remember when he used to play for us”?
It’s noticeable that when Sereki comes on as sub, he always gives us extra energy and goal threat down the right, he’s able to change the game in our favour.

I'm fully on the Seriki train. Love him.

Better defensively than I originally gave him credit for too.

The lad threw himself in the way to stop Wednesday scoring. For that alone it makes him 100 times better at defending than Bogle who would have probably given away a penalty.

That little vignette was superb, but it’s what you come to expect from Seriki. He’s a terrific asset and ghosts pass defenders like they’re not there

Yes, the received wisdom is that Gilchrist is better defensively, but to be honest I’m not sure I’ve really seen the evidence of that. In any case Seriki adds so much going forward I think it’s worth it. We’re going to need both over the remainder of the season, but I think I’d be picking Seriki for most games.

The pace he showed getting back and overtaking the attacker to watch the ball out for a Gk was immense as well

Think Gilchrist is really good defensively. Two excellent young prospects for me.

I’m fairly happy to keep Seriki on the bench and keep Gilchrist with the shirt. Gilchrist is ahead of him for me and has more experience but Seriki is more than an able replacement but not quite the finished article yet.

I actually prefer Gilchrist in the right side of a defensive 3 than at full back or wing back. He’s good at getting into the right position to get in blocks when playing in that area. When he’s further from goal I think he too often lets a player get in behind him.

Yes not been today but agree with all previous comments. Massive fan and think.he could ultimately prove to be the best of the current academy lot which is saying a lot! Remember him in second half v Sunderland. He pretty much singlehandedly put them.on the back foot and enabled us to win from a position that had looked unlikely.

I think a combination of both works well. Either bring Gilchrist on to shut a game down or bring Seriki on against tired legs.

Very much agree.
Our fans, rightly rave about the Academy prospects, with Arblaster and Brooks receiving the plaudits, now we have Peck receiving deserved praise too.
However the best of the lot, currently being kept under raps, the least known nationally, could actually be Sereki.

He’s only generally played as sub but almost instantly changes a game in our favour.
Love how he just sprints with the ball (with zero fear) straight towards the heart of opposition defences.
My brother is a Wednesday fan, He’s an older fan and tries to talk sense putting rivalries to one side
And he said the player that impressed him the most in the Sheffield derby was Sereki, said he changed the game for us and he never realised how good he was.

It’s not like he’s had the odd great game, the weird thing is that he’s been quite consistent, having a fairly big influence on a game every time he comes on.

It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if Sereki becomes a household name in the PL if we’re promoted next season
And you have clubs like Chelsea offering us 30 to 40 million.

PS: I still rate Gilchriest who played well today, so I would still probably start Gilchrist for most games…suppose it depends on the opposition.
There is a theory that Sereki might not be as good if he starts, however there’s no doubting he’s been brilliant as sub this season.
….as they say “What a weapon to bring on”?

Seriki has far more experience than Gilchrist in terms of number of matches played in professional football.

When Saki and Sariki play together our right hand side looks brilliant
Feel sorry for any left backs up against these 2.

Especially then when we could be able to bring on Gilchrist and Brooks to finish the game off.

This is what I miss us being able to do. Just having some sort of options from the bench.

He has all the physical attributes to play in the EPL, something we were sadly lacking in our last EPL campaign. Add his explosive pace and it makes him a very exciting prospect. He's got rough edges when it comes to positional defending but that will come with experience and time on the pitch. He really needs to be given more game time as he's a real threat in full flow as todays foray down the right when he glided past 3 players shows. I really hope the impending signing of JJK does not push back his progress as he is capable, as Sunlan at home showed, of turning games on his own.
