Just what the hell has he done in the 18 months since Leicester spent 7m on him to justify up to an 80% rise in value?

Is this how easy it is to make a significant profit on a player these days?

We're paying the absolute maximum for him

Would they really not have accepted 7-8m or so if it was the only offer to sign him permanently in this window? They seemed perfectly happy with the idea of 7m and their money back previously

This is quite the shift from a manager who said he'd spend the club's money as if it was his own, and indicates a total hands off role from him when it comes to financial aspects of deals

Expect demands for all our other targets to now rise. In this window and beyond

Cannon will have to fire us to promotion to justify this desperate, excessive indulgence

I'm not sure we can read into his recent stats that much, as it's heavily weighted with playing amongst Stoke's finest (no disrespect but they've not had a great season).

Let's see how he goes on among our lot - Mr Campbell hasn't been too shoddy after all, and look where we got him from !
Looking at it another way... they're a poor side but still create more chances than we do! Is he a better finisher than Campbell who basically hits the target with every shot? I doubt it, Even if he is, it's still a hell of a lot of money!

A lot depends on how the deal is structured. If a sizable chunk of the bonuses are based on promotion/goals scored, then it's not bad business at all. If the bulk of the fee is up front, it seems steep.

It is a lot of money, traditionally - football is getting silly. We do need more than one striker though, allowing for injuries, and pretty much all teams who are challenging for promotion have way more options than we currently do.

You'd take some of the players who have missed more than him and he is one of the youngest playing for 2 average/ below average Championship teams adjusting to their styles each time and scoring goals

That Stoke have created more big chances than we have this season
Right. So what you are saying is that they have scored less than us even though they have created more bigger chances?

I'll trust Wilder on this one (we kinda have to), rather than not signing someone due to stats calling them out.

This talk of £13m could be very misleading. General opinion was that he would cost around £7m until a couple of days ago, then we heard that Sunderland had bid £13m based on promotion. I read this morning that we're the only club to have made a bid by Leicester's 12pm deadline, and that it will be a permanent signing right away. I'm guessing the fee will be closer to £7m than £13m.

Correct. We outperform our XG (mainly from Campbell's ridiculous conversion rate and Hamer's long range goals) and Stoke miss more of their big chances (to be fair to Cannon, he scores in line with expectation, the rest of the team are wasteful).

Different types of player but would you rather Piroe (went for 10m) and so far top end Champ is his ability, or Cannon?
Cannon 💯

You could argue Piroe has hit his ceiling at Leeds (top championship striker), whereas Cannon hasn't hit his ceiling yet and potentially could get better.

Piroe feels a bit like what Keinan Davis was a few years ago, where he could get into a lot of the top championship teams but he couldn't take that next step up to the prem.

Cost of living crisis, innit. Nothing's anywhere near the price it was 18 months ago, why should footballers be any different. The coffee I buy's gone up 30% just since November.

Both shit holes but Sunnerlan near to Newcastle for the banging nights out. Sheffield is near to Rotherham and Barnsley for.. the... er.........
He might like a six fingered girlfriend.
That extra digit might come in handy😜

Cannon might not have set the world on fire, but he certainly isn't the cause of Stoke's wasted opportunities.
You're right. As I said above, Stoke are wasteful, but nothing wrong with Cannon's finishing.

My issue is that people are expecting that Cannon will have way more opportunities to score in our side. They're overestimating how creative we are compared to Stoke.

Related to this, if Cannon currently doesn't get involved in matches and contribute more than the finishing... Wilder has a long track record of improving players' all round game and convincing them to muck in with their teammates. And Cannon is at the perfect age to take that kind of advice on board.

LCFC signed him in the summer of 2023 on a 5 year deal (which would give him 3 and a half years left), he's scored is it 10 goals for Stoke this season which would have added to his value and demand.

We're also talking about the club that got £65 million pounds out of Man U for Harry Maguire, don't get me wrong I like Maguire but he wasn't worth that amount of money.

When it comes to selling players, Leicester seems to get big money for players, I don't recall how much Chelsea signed Wes Fofana for but it was a lot, considering he's barely played due to injury.

Let me try this again 😆

Stoke have created more chances than us, but Cannon is not at fault for them not being converted:

All stats at for time at Stoke - Cannon shows "2 squads" just because he is listed under Leicester as well.

The end column is non-penalty goals vs non-penalty xG. Cannon is matching his xG from open play almost perfectly (5.8 npxG vs 6 goals scored from open play). Meanwhile, the other 3 have a combined 11.8 npxG, and 6 goals scored. They've required more than twice the amount of xG, to score the same number of goals.

Most annoying thing about this one is Wilder will start him ahead of a much more prolific Campbell when he's back fit
Isn’t it quite nice for us to have the choice? I think Campbell is great and a brilliant buy … but his fitness record is patchy. Adding another proven goal scorer is surely brilliant news?

not saying that's accurate but if it is, there's another similarity with Brewster. Lots of apparently alternate interest which disappeared like a fart in a stiff breeze when it came time to put your cock on the block. I don't honestly think we have, but I hope we've not been mugged into paying well over the top when there was little real alternate interest.

From our perspective, so long as we've still money in the bank to spend I guess it doesn't matter so long as the new owners have it.
