If it was someone like Josh Sargent sitting on 15 goals and we were paying that for him then village mentality accusations would be more valid. As it's for Cannon...... consider me a villager. Woulda bought a full squad for that back in my day, and a new training ground

I would rather be a villager,
Rather be a villager,
Rather be a villager than pay 13m for Cannon

Actually back in the day 13m wouldn’t have even got you a Brewster.

Agree but it all depends what league you’re in.

The discrepancy in finances is so huge that:

Any Premier league side paying out £13 million is small change and easily affordable.

Where as any Championship side paying out £13 million sets the alarm bells ringing because there’s a big chance of FFP issues and possibly a large points deduction. Ultimately leading to a melt down and relegation to league 1.

If we fail to gain promotion then we might end up in a situation where we are obligated to sell 2 or 3 of our best players. The problem is buying clubs know we’re desperate to sell then they might take advantage making low bids knowing we are under pressure to accept.

I suppose the question is, do us and Sunderland take the risk gambling their future sustainability on promotion this season?

Personally think our gambles need to be measured ensuring we have an escape route with creative clauses, just in case we don’t achieve promotion. Obviously I’d still try to buy him but if we refuse to pay out 13 mill then I won’t be disappointed as long as we spend the money elsewhere.

The other issue with Cannon is that he’s good but not yet £13 million good. The Stoke fans are pretty split regards how good he is, apparently he doesn’t do much apart from score and needs setting up otherwise he can look poor. Imagine the stick he, the manager and owners will get when he has games where he does absolutely nothing? If we end up refusing to pay 13 mill then I won’t be disappointed as long as we spend on other players.

Please don’t pay 13m for cannon. I don’t think it’s possible for anyone to be successful at this club with that price tag. Surely we can get 2/3 very good players for 13m! Cooper, Burrows, Moore, O’Hare cost a total of about 4m! What we doing?!
More like 7m but still good business for them 4!

I'm pretty sure that our managment will not have that in the game plan. He will be instructed on how to play and that means high pressing.

You see this type of thing quite a lot.
People think we’ve hardly paid anything for Cooper, Burrows, Moore and O’Hare.

However the key factor on all 4 was they were either free transfers or close to being free transfers. In reality there’s no such thing as free. Their agents will have put a strong business case forward as to why all 4 should be given huge salaries (by Championship standards).

If the new owners want to spend this amount on a player let them .Makes no difference what we think same with any other transfer

Fair comment. For £13m, it's reasonable to expect a player capable of both making a big contribution to promotion and, if successful, also having an impact in the top flight.

Leicester, despite having scored twice in their last 5 league starts, clearly believe he isn't up to the latter.

So you are worried that spending £13m plus wages may cause P&S rules issues but are happy if that amount is spent elsewhere? How does that work?

If we've got 13m down the back of the sofa I'd rather bid at broja sainz

Plus the lad from forest 😁😁

Mind you wilder dunt like forriners 😝
No chance we get Sainz for that money

Norwich have always charged a premium for their talents - I reckon they'd want the same sort of money they got for Buendia.

Besides, he doesn't really help our lack of squad depth much, with him being banned for 6 games

How much did we pay for Ched 16 years ago? Seems a similar profile and player? Money has gone up since then.
£750k with add ons up to a max of 3 - 3.5 mill. I doubt we paid many of the add ons under the circumstances.

I was at a fan's forum where McCabe tried to tell the fans continually that we'd paid 3 mill plus until Trevor Birch butted in and said we'd paid 750k 🤣 You can imagine McCabe's face.

I'm sure McCabe (or McWobblegob as he was once known, childishly haha) eventually said the £3m figure for Ched Evans was the total package of fee plus wages.

Seems a nice fella 6 game ban starting against us for spitting on a player

In his latest book he says it was a £3.25m package over 3 years.

Ha ha yeh good point.
I meant if you’re going to take risks then it had better be worth it. A calculated risk.
I don’t see £13 million for Cannon as being good value…we’re paying well over the odds but it depends what the other options are.
We might have little choice but to pay it and accept that failure to be promoted will lead to selling a Hamer, Ahmedhodzic and Vini Souza next season.

Think the same about £13m. Hopefully any options are better than third or fourth choice.

When was the last time we had a nice straight forward, relatively timely transfer?
Cooper was straight forward ish wasn’t it? You’re right though it’s a difficult market with everyone fishing for the same players.

I remember Gus Hamer signing coming out the blue & signing the next day
