I wouldn't be too fussed.

Choudhury will always divide opinion. He's not too dissimilar to Nicky Montgomery. Works hard, defensively excellent, offers zero going forwards.

He'll have days where he looks amazing, days where his lack of technical ability makes him look a bit of a donkey.

He'd improve our squad options.

The thing is, why would he go from being a squad player in the Premier League to being a squad player in the Championship?

One of their posts said was £80k a week too. Hope that's not true although with the rate they break PSR rules, it could be

I've seen him play several times now. He's ranged from just above average to very good in those games.

Also; he's brutal and I firmly believe that if you can bully (and win) the MF battle, you will do very well in the Champ. Especially in our case, where we can give the ball to more forward thinking, technical players, once possession is regained.

Here's his stats compared to other midfielders from his time on loan at Watford.

Decent sample size as it's across 3033 minutes of game time (equivalent to 33 full matches).

Basically looking at the best defensive midfielder in the league, but expect little else.
We'd be a very tight ship if we went with Souza & Choudhury, but would rely a lot on Gus Hamer and co. to progress the ball on their behalf. Which I think would be OK.

I think having a solid base of Vini and Hamza as the two holding midfielders, with 3 more creative ones ahead of them (Gus, O'Hare, JRS, Brooks, BBD? Etc) would be the best way for us to go now after the loss of Arblaster. It may also allow us to get Burrows forward more often.

So likes a tackle, but hates a shot

Agree wholeheartedly, as technically proficient as Peck and Davies are, we lack some defensive discipline in there, along with protecting bombscare JLT.

I also think the same reason is why we have Moore, it’s not only to link up, but to manage the opposition defenders to give more space for our flair players. (I accept his recent performances have been terrible)

Campbell does this in a different way by stretching and running in behind.

I'd worry about the lack of creativity in a Souza-Choudhury partnership. Souza progresses the ball ok but (as you said) it would put a big burden on a front four that is already struggling to make chances.

I'm not sold on Hamer wide left. There is clearly a reason we are playing him there and a reason we haven't moved him in but I'd like to see Hamer and Vini in the middle when Vini is fit.

Peck and Davies to back it up and come in when needed.

Fan of Hamza Choudhary though so happy either way. But Davies and Peck isn't gonna keep us top 3.

Don't like the thought of Hamer in central midfield. He gives the ball away far too much and gets unnecessary yellow cards from bad tackles and been caught the wrong side of his man.

He's not a left winger, but at the end of the day, neither is anyone else in the squad.

Brereton Diaz coming to play wide left and will play every week if/once fit so Hamer either plays CM or CAM

We signed him based on his performances from a central position for Coventry. So I don't know why we wouldn't play him there.

He made 44 appearances in the 22/23 season. All of them, were as a central midfielder, either more defensively or offensively minded depending on the game in question.

Obviously he's been out wide for us this season out of necessity, but I'd love to see him play in the middle as part of a 4-3-3 line up. Vini, plus one other (perhaps Choudhury) along with Hamer, who would have licence to break forward and threaten from the edge of the box.

I agree. We are desperate for a left winger

N.b. I don't think Hamer actually plays wide left. The team sheet my say he does,.but he's clearly got license to roam where he wants

I think the teamsheet has him down as the left sided attacker, but in reality he doesn't really play there, he roams the pitch.

Jesus christ he doesn't have a touch like him too does he 🙈🤣

Could you imagine that chant resurfacing for him there would be all sorts of uproar these days.

Gravenburch similar and has been a big, if largely unsung, part of Liverpool’s success this season.

Hamer's stats for Coventry were absolutely outrageous at CM.
The best all round midfielder in the division, probably by some distance.

Does make you question whether we're wasting him on the wing.

He doesn't actually play on the wing though does he.

I mean I don't know what you're watching, but I'm certainly not seeing Hamer run around much on the left side of the pitch like a winger does.

True he ends up cutting inside anyway.

Because he can't run

Hope we have higher standards than recruiting a player who can be a bit of a donkey with limited technical ability - but will improve our squad options ....

Well worth the 7 month takeover saga.

Could allow us to play Seriki consistently too and have significant attacking threat from both fullback positions.
