So what do we think today. A massive six pointer, could be a big win for us this season. Maybe a platform for a playoff push and a great way to see off crissmas (wi a bit o booze chucked in anall) or could be a loss that will confine us to a relegation battle, could go either way so...
  • Will it be Murf or Aidy on the left?
  • Is Miller a certain starter?
  • Can Porter retain his place?

  • ...Or is there no need to change things...
I think with a good performance and some more clinical finishing we'll get this one.
i'm going 2-0 blades

Most confident I have been all season about picking up 3 points in this one. On the back of the recent performances most recently the last game which we were superb in through-out or more or less, I think if we carry on like that then we will win comfortably.

Listening to Millers interview on OS he is desperate to get involved in this one, Clough has been introducing him back to first team football slowly due to his injury starting or playing 1 game in 3 but after his injury last year on boxing day he is desperate to do the business.

Either way in Jose I believe as he has been top notch these last few games and I fancy him to turn up and do the business against his former employers. Also fancy one of the CB's to get up for a set piece and knock one in for us.

I'm going for a convincing 3-0 win and another huge leap forward and turning point for us.

I hav to say we are looking a more confident and dangerous side now under clough. He made good impressions so far and i think he'll make the right decisions. Lets get behind the boys tmorrow.

How good is that? To read consecutive posts all with that streak of confidence about a Blade's win. Put it down to the Nigel effect, so finger's crossed we'll continue our good run tomorrow. I'd love to see Miller score, it'd do the lad the world of good and might strengthen his case for consecutive selections. As for Jose baby, another creative display of imagination and guile will do nicely, and as it's xmas, maybe Porter will ping one in off his knee. UTB

I would love to see us start to really bang in some goals at home! A 5:0 win for the fans who have had to suffer some very poor games.
A striker in January transfer window will be welcome.

A win would be, dare I say, a MASSIVE moral booster for the team and the fans.

Let us pray..

I know teesideblade, I'm cautiously optimistic. Too many decades of false dawns has meant that I adopt a "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude. But I have a sneaking suspicion that this time we're a glass half full, and that the Prince will begin to deliver on what we all hope for. Listen, who'd have thought that ropey old Man City (as was) would have turned 360 degrees and bought genuine world class players? Don't misunderstand, I'm not expecting us to be anywhere close to City in spending power, but if the likes of Swansea, Stoke, and Southampton can spend upwards of £12 million on players to consolidate their Prem positions then who knows what lies ahead for the Blades?

Before then there's the small matter of getting promoted through two divisions, so a year or two off yet. But Clough has made an enormous difference, so imagine what sort of season we'd have had if Nigel had been in the manager's seat from day one? It's the Championship where we'll begin to attract superior quality. Unfortunately Div 1 is a deadend for players of proven quality. It's only the fact that United have the appearance of a big club that enabled us to secure Baxter at this level, but with Cloughie at the helm I am hopeful of seeing better quality added to our ranks in future. Whoa back up them horses Blades , a win tomorrow is all that's important , 1-0 will do me , lets walk before we run , or we'll start going on like them fuckers up the road in Barnsley . Lets get out of the shite we're in ( ie ) relegation and then start looking at who we might give a spanking to ( Jennifer love Hewitt ) would be the one for me ;) . 7 points from next 3 games would do me . UTB .

And I will take a 1-0 win any day of the week dublin10 mate but the signs are there that we are going to comfortably win a game some time in the near future because we have been (dare I say it) dangerous going forward at times and most important we have created multiple chances of late. The only thing preventing us from coming back from Stevenage 3-0 winners was a the woodwork on a couple of occasions and overall a bit of bad luck which considering our lack of standout strikers and current lack of clinicalness still says quite a bit on how we are starting to knit again.

If the midfield play as they did against Stevenage, if we apply the same attacking attitude and use the width again and overlapping full backs and just simply carry on as we have been doing then the luck eventually has to change and we will comfortably beat someone, I would like to think considering Oldham's league position, recent league form and our home advantage that this could be the opportunity to do it.

Let's hope Cloughy lets the leash go a bit more as he did in the last home game. Oldham are a decent outfit but with our recent run it should be jingle bells all the way.

Cautiously expecting a win, but a draw with a solid performance would be acceptable. Again, i think the opposition 'nil' score line is just as important.

It's great that miller and Baxter are chomping at the bit, would be good if Taylor stepped it up as well (when he gets a proper chance again) because all this competition can only be good and it means porter also has to maintain a higher level.

I'm starting to think that the bench options are giving us something different so it makes us difficult to play against. Let's give the opposition something to worry about for once!

Point taken dublin 10 blade - wasn't actually getting carried away, I've followed the Blades long enough to know that any type of success is a blessing. If you read my message you'll see I added a "I'll believe it when I see it" caveat. So no need to tighten those reins for me, but I don't see any harm in looking towards what might be. No one's expected to agree, surely this is what a forum's intended for? Discussing the future isn't the same as suggesting we're going to sign Lionel Messi. Now that would be a familiar piggy trait.

I agree with your thoughts about the grunts, I've 'spoken' to (interpret that as healthy disagreements) those unlucky enough to choose South Barnsley as their team of choice. Delusion is a pandemic amongst the pigs, you can tell as much by the number of arrogants who suffer from repetitive trotter syndrome. They use every piece of self-deception to make their case, the size of their crowds (forgetting to add the number of free tickets they've given out), their Massive global following (they do make me smile!), and the fact that they were going to zoom through the championship (well they're doing that in reverse with consummate ease).

So trust me mate, no one is more grounded about the here and now. It's just that sometimes the odd bit of pragmatic speculation doesn't harm. Take care Dublin, UTB

Sorry to spoil the mood but the 2 games I cannot get out of my head are the 3-2 home defeat against Oldham (the most significant league result since the prem IMO) and the 3-2 home defeat v Hartlepool last Boxing day that set us up for the worst calendar year I can remember - 2013.

If we lose 3-2 today then blame me.

I went to stevenage and although we played well, especially Baxter, both Miller and Porter were poor. As long as we have to rely on Porter as our centre forward we are always going to struggle. He would not get into a league two side on a regular basis. On Saturday I cannot remember him having one dangerous effort at goal

I'm feeling confident aswell, but Oldham can't be taken for granted.Remember seeing them on the box away vPNE earlier in the season, and although they lost, they were the better team. The young Centre Back Tarkowski I think his name is,looked impressive that day.
I'm thinking NC will go with 4 at the back..think we'll see Miller and Porter again up top,and let's hope Baxter can shine against his old club, and that Miller can get off the mark.
Three points today will be a big boost by providing a bit more distance from the drop zone, and then Tranmere to come at the Lane then hopefully things will be looking a lot better. UTB!

Yep , the 3-2 defeat knocked us back a bit with losing Lesc during the game and having Maguire sent off resulting in them scoring a last minute pen.Did someone else get sent off also? Anyway it affected our next couple of results if i remember and played a significant part in us not going up.

Three points today will almost make up for the fact that Santa failed to deliver Jennifer Lawrence to me yesterday.

Yes, Matty Lowton got sent off leading to an entirely new back four on the following Tuesday at Walsall. I will never forget Ertl's display at right back that night. Whichever physio put his feet on the wrong legs that night should have been sacked.

Matty's lunge to get sent off was idiotic by the way

I'd take a scrappy 1-0 today. Win our home games and draw away and we'll be reight.

It was good to see the ball getting in the box more at Stevenage so the lack of goals is something to be addressed by a new addition.

For any newbies round here who can't be at the game, watch the Twitter box on the front page for our in match updates.

First post on this forum after finally giving up on that 'other' site.. Think we will win by the odd goal but will be tough as both sides are going to look on this as a six pointer (which it is) and Oldham will be looking to put one over on Baxter for leaving, going for a 2 - 1 win, goals from Baxter and Maguire.

I think it was 5 before half time that day in 80s , and saw Billy Mckwean off, one of the most shameful Blades performances I have seen.

As for the three two defeat the other year, the two red cards in that game cost us six points and promotion. Bad memories..

Confident about a Blades win today. They're on the best run of form since the first League 1 season, and they look confident, physical and disciplined under Clough. Miller to start for me, and White instead o' Murph. 2-0 to The Blades, Baxter and Miller to score.

"You can bring Pearl, she's a darn nice girl, but don't bring Lenners.

You can bring Rose with the turned up nose, but don't bring Lenners."
