Honest discussion about the atmosphere

How many posts can you point me too where people say they are “happy” with how things are. That’s a nonsense claim, just filler. CBA? Obviously some truth in that but how do you reconcile that with those who were constantly hooting up about it when Ricky made his attempt who never really tried to back it? It wasn’t the naysayers who ended that, it was those who”proper fans” who didn’t bother.

The Ultra concept abroad is a bit more than what happens at Palace on match days. I have no problem whatsoever with standing/singing sections whatsoever, or people who want them. I just find the idea that someone is a better blade because they sing a ridiculous notion that takes nothing else, age etc, into consideration. I was at most away games up until a couple of years ago - always standing - until mobility issues made it very difficult to stand for the full game. So, rather than decide it was all about me and just moan “siddarn” at people , l stopped nearly all away games. Maybe l should be like you and want everyone to toe my line?
I responded initially to two of your posts because they had something of interest worth commenting on (not necessarily because I disagreed with you).

I suggested three variants of 'happy with status quo/CBA/ the other one' (can't be arsed to actually check what it was). If there are no posts saying people are happy with the status quo (and I assume you are right that there aren't any), we move on to the others.

I make no arguments about being a bigger Blade. I've probably been to 25 games in the past 30 years as I live abroad. I contrast what I see week in, week out at the team I support here, where there are organised ultras and I think it's a shame that teams in the UK are incapable of such cooperation.

Your insinuation that I expect everyone to 'toe my line' is incorrect. No idea where you got that from.

You can create singing sections, safe standing etc. to improve the atmosphere for the biggest factor in determining how good or bad will always be what happens on the pitch.

If we have another season like last season, I don’t care what you’ve got in place, the atmosphere is going to be terrible.
That accepts that we are acted upon rather than responsible for our own decisions and actions. Undoubtedly, many do feel this is the case as that's what leads them to make posts like your own.

In contrast, myself, BelgianBlade and themaninblack above are putting forwards stories that show it doesn't have to be this way. I know I will go to a game here and sing and shout, somewhat orchestrated by a guy with a megaphone, have organised/safe pyro before and after the game time, and a good/great (depending on the result) atmosphere every single time I go to a game. Every single time.

Last weekend, things obviously took an upturn when my local team took the lead after 19 minutes. Ten minutes later we were 3-1 down. The singing from the singing section didn't stop. The atmosphere remained 'good'. Not everyone needs to join in, but the very loose 'manufacturing' of atmosphere ensures that there is one. What happens on the pitch is, to an extent, secondary, rather than primary, as you argue is the case at Bramall Lane. But ultimately, we do have a say in whether that's the case.

Firstly, on review, l can’t see where l got the “toe my line” thing from, so apologies.

The better Blade comment wasn’t aimed at you but others involved in the thread sneering at those who don’t sing or like to keep the seat they’ve sat in for some years.

As l’ve never seen a “l’m happy” comment l don’t think it’s worth giving it any consideration. Hence my comment.

Whether l like what happens at Palace or not is irrelevant. Pretty much my whole point has been when Ricky tried to get something similar going, where were all critics of the atmosphere then?

No further ideas or suggestions from anyone please regarding trying to improve the atmosphere at bramall lane. Sean Thornton doesn't want it, Ricky tried a singing section some years ago and it didn't work so that's that, end of argument, call an end to any further discussion, may as well close the thread, continue as we are ladies and gents.

This thread is just the kind of shit that is holding up the takeover. We sound like a bunch of absolute nob-heads.

Yappa yappa yappa - shat it, please!

I can see you need these. When you’ve stopped weeping how about considering the lie you’ve just told.

( l chose man size for a rather obvious joke btw)

I haven't read every thread but to be honest a lot of modern football is just plain boring due to the style of play. It is hard to get on the edge of your seat when the Blades huff and puff like last Saturday and only have one shot at goal in the first half. Before these new pitches BL would now be seeing a big diamond of virtually grassless/ or mud coloured pitch and four triangles of green out toeards the wing and corner flags. Playing such intricate football was a lot more difficult and that is what made some playuers stand out but you did need the workhorses and a no compromise centre half as every team had a big No 9. Wasn't always pretty but the ball didn't last long being passed around the back four, it was punted forward to the big No 9 and fight for the loose ball,. For defenders it was Row Z and goalkepers would not be able to play out like they do now with the ball bobbling all over or sticking in the mud. Teams frustrate now and players supposedly get injured to break up the rhythm of the game. Different days, different play.

“ when a goal goes in and even during games most of our fans are silent”

😄

Ffs get a grip. You didn’t even know when Kop seats were installed so forgive me for thinking your claims are bs.

Where do these silent fans sit, on the cricket pavilion?
ooh forgive me if i was a year out 91 then all i do know is that the shoreham kop was much louder when it was standing not every game of course just think our fans back then were more supportive of the team in those days maybe its partly mobile phones everybody checking their accas or the style of football we are playing ⚔️⚔️

Atmosphere is poor at home for the most part. The away day atmospheres are always better so it's unsurprising we get some of the comments we do. No different to my view of the home support at the majority of away matches I have been to either. It is what it is

Today was a disgrace.

We made zero noise all game.

It was going well from 45-52 mins

That goal killed it stone dead. Timing could not have been worse. Such a fucking flukey goal too

Loved the way we consciously created an anti referee anti goalkeeper anti number 11 let’s boo bad decisions atmosphere. Usually works but sadly not today. X

First half was unbelievably bad. Top of the table clash on Boxing Day when most people had had a few and it was dead. SWFIUA was probably the loudest song. Nowt really got going, but I guess it was a reflection of what was happening on the pitch. Second half a bit better. Didn't help that Burnley were quite quiet for much of it as well.

I don't really know what the answer is, sadly. Shall I bring a drum?

I thought the atmosphere was decent. Would have been in great if we'd have scored.

Burnley fans were rubbish. Plymouth fans were miles better than them and they've got nowt to sing about!

Sometimes i think the style of football most teams play kills the atmosphere, teams are so rigid in their thinking and approach that sometimes not a lot actually happens in a game. The first half yesterday was prime example, i half think if burnleys defender got the ball off the keeper and Moore didnt go to him fully he couldve stood there for the duration and no one would have done anything. top of the table clash but the reality is both teams play a steady patient game, waiting for gaps etc etc and that doesnt lend itself to the crowd getting going. Just about every team does the same

Personally thought it was very quiet yesterday but it is what it is.

Not until we sing 'We're Sheff Utd we need a drum.'

I watched on a stream. Not sure the crowd microphone setup was the best, but I barely heard any crowd noise that wasn't from the Burnley end.

I don't understand it personally - We were going into a huge match yesterday, one that we'd need "home advantage" for.

Modern football does get a bit boring at times, the only chance both teams had in the first half was their goal.

There is never going to be a decent atmosphere when fans are watching that.

Agree with this. Save for the odd random game, football is pretty boring these days

been like it at the lane for ages now although without wanting to criticise the manager the type of football we are playing just now doesnt exactly get fans off their seats and phones 🙄

We're complacent. We've had two recent promotions to the EPL. There was excitement and energy when we first went up when Wilder pulled us out of league 1 and then against the odds into the top flight. Many fans now expect promotion so the lack of excitement on the pitch is dictating the atmosphere.

If we agree there's 3 pockets of singing fans at the back of the kop.. let's put them into actual competition. Pocket with highest avg decibels each month gets a prize... meet n greet players, discounted away travel, any other incentives.

Singing only, no airhorns or other bollocks.
How do we get them to sing in tune and with rythmn🤔 or is that irrelevant.
The cokeheads v the pisspots might be an interesting contest😁🙏

Passy, passy bollox footy has made football boring. I'm all for passing and moving, being progressive and using it as a means to attack, but we also need to see players run at their men. So many teams just pass it sideways and backwards with little off the ball movement as well. As for wide men and wing backs who get the ball, look up and just pass it backwards every fcking time, like clockwork 😱.

Also can someone tell me the benefit of the defenders being in line with the goalie when he has the ball, getting it off him, then eventually hoofing it up the field, when the goalie could have done that anyway? If the goalie does it then as least the defensive line is up the field. Makes zero sense.

There are many different factors why football crowds in the UK are quiet, and style of football is just one of them. Crowds in many european countries are so noisy it's embarrassing for fans in the so called home of football.

I think the nerves/cagey nature of the game reflected in the atmosphere. Yesterday was all about scoring the first goal which we didnt get obviously
