If anyone can get him back to his best, then it is probably Wilder. He also has the promotion experience with Leeds (ignoring the year they bottled it ;))

However, it could be a big gamble financially.

Ruined his career trajectory jumping ship for the money, he must have got bad advisors around him, as everyone knew it wouldn't work out at city for him, and he got to have been told he would be a bit part player.

Hardly played any football during his time there effectively having a few seasons off and now the lack of game time as been showing in his performances in the top division.

Not saying I wouldn't have him, I think he would be an immense signing for us in the Championship and would take a lot of weight off souza shoulders, and moving closer to home may be better for him, may not have settled in down east London or Ipswich.
He’s a strange one as he jumped to Man City, expected to develop and just hasn’t.

Even stranger, that whilst he wasn’t playing regular football for City, Southgate continued to pick him for England where he did have some good games albeit in a very safe/ negative set up.

He did well for Leeds in the championship and I think that’s really his level. He’s been able to put in decent occasional performances above championship but he’s not really put in consistency for West Ham or Ipswich to suggest he’s anything more than a car crash.

A loan until the end of the season at championship level would suit him, but beyond that for a promoted side I think the step up would be too much for him again.

I’d take him if he’s cheap on wages which I suspect he won’t be, otherwise steer clear

Yeah I tend to agree, I think Southgate being a fan boy really help push him forward into the limelight and being at Leeds.

Pretty much a madness from Southgate playing a player that couldn't even break into his own club team, but that summed him up really, he had favourites.

We can guarantee if he was playing for us he wouldn't have been picked for England and wouldn't be on radar of city lol.

Pretty much like our squad in the season we finished 9th, all playing above their station and all having 8s and 9s every game by their standards, and that's no disrespect to our squad at the time.

As you and other have said, if we can pay just a % of his wages and rediscovers any sort of form then it's a no brainer.

Always plenty of revisionist and biased stuff about Kalvin. Was great for Leeds, team of the tournament for England, got a massive move to Man City.

Obviously was a good player. Though looks to be struggling a lot currently so could/would be a gamble for us (particularly with wages).

He's a player worthy of serious consideration and would be a significant upgrade on what we have, IF he can get back to anywhere near his best.
There's no way we should take a risk on his wages though, as aside from Leeds and Burnley I can't see anyone paying anything more than a minimal percentage.

We'd be mad to turn him down if we had the chance. Quality player, just needs to find his mojo again.

Must be summat up with Blades fans not wanting any players from Citeh 😂

Anyone know how long is left of KDB's contract? - oh wait, wouldn't have him here 😂

The lad has lost his way like a number of players who went all "billy big bollocks " after a high profile move
Agreed about wilder turning him round he probably needs a arm round him but only on sensible wages , look at what the manager at Chelsea has done with Sancho

We train alot and he can't be arsed with the stop start premier league schedule! Absolutely not.

He was a good player who I would have liked at united in a heartbeat,he had a really good range of passing going forward and a bit of tenacity about him. Leeds fell apart after he left. Strangely lost his way at city to where he would never have a run of games. Some players just fit a club and no others. 🤷🏻‍♂️

A big part of being a professional footballer is having confidence in your own ability. So when a club like City make an offer, there aren’t going to be many players that think to themselves “I’m not good enough to play for them” especially when a manager like Pep thinks you’re good enough.

Players do sign for City and become regular first team players, so I don’t think it’s ridiculous for Phillips to have thought he would be able to become a regular in that team.

I’d take him in a heartbeat. Massive improvement over Peck. Wages and him being a fan of our main promotion rivals probably means it’s a no though. Can’t believe some people turning their nose up at the prospect. He’d be comfortably our best central midfielder next to Souza

I remember CW being keen when he was breaking into the Leeds team.
Not sure how ready he'd be but you'd have thought he'd make a huge difference in a Champ side. Surely Leeds would be keen and favourites to land him if he indeed available and affordable though

I agree to some extend but you also have to be realistic and not deluded... you seriously think he thought he would dislodge world class players (which he is no where near the standard off) such as de bruyne, gundogan, rodri, kovacic
.. and also keep them out of the team, he's got to know he was going to be back up to those.

Natural career trajectory of a tragically overrated player. I was always baffled at the hype around this clogger. Avoid!

Literally the only reason I think City signed him was to have more homegrown players on the books that were not just Scott Carson sat collecting winners medals.

He went from playing to Leeds to Man City. It’s not like he left for a shite club who offered to pay him more. Cor what a prick for wanting to challenge himself with the best side in Europe. If he really wanted it so bad, he should’ve demanded the same level of pay too. Dickhead should’ve known he wouldn’t have succeeded anyway!

Some of the opinions on here are bonkers. “Bad apple”. Christ.

Well I assume if we signed him on loan, it would be a proportion of his salary we are comfortable with. Would be a cracking signing, if it was not the injury risk he carries ( given he would also be replacing an injured player, with anoth injury riddled player backing him up_
