Kyle Walker

Love this thread. Monty, God love him, is being lauded while our Kyle, the greatest footballer Sheffield has ever produced, is getting pelters. What's all that about?
Don’t really see pelters tbh, that would imply he’s getting slagged off which I don’t see at all.

What I see is some giving their opinion on Kyle’s current footballing form/ability and also his potential future form i.e next season possibly with us where it’s possible his pace could go even further than it seems to have this season. I personally don’t think we should touch him unless he is very realistic with his wage demands because he is nowhere near the player he was even a year ago and is on a downward spiral unfortunately but that is age for you. Not giving him pelters just an opinion which is what a football forum is for after all.

That doesn’t take away what an amazing player he has been and is in every argument for Sheffields best ever player.

Walker would be about as much use as Jags was , in fact less coz he couldn't go in the net.
And Jags was on silly money but Walker would want even more ridiculous wages.
Just a pipe dream
Forget it
To be fair, he's obviously not on the Jags level of outfield goalkeepers, one would assume.

He didn't do too shabby when he played the last 15 minutes for City in net a few years ago

Bit of an over reach.

He's obviously just started the decline of his career unfortunately, it's not something only we can see, it's an opinion echoed by the football community as a whole.

He either needs to adapt his game to cover for his loss of pace or he's not got a long time left playing at the top elite level

He's playing unfit.

Pep has said as much himself, he's barely trained, but they have no choice due to injuries.

The comments on this thread about Kyle are laughable, he’s still in the top quarter of performers in the EPL, even if you think he’s in decline, he’d be in the first 11 of any top 10 clubs in the country.

If you think he’s not good enough for our top 6 champ team you’re deluded and belong across the city taking the deludemol pills.

I know I didn’t say it but just checked the thread to see who did say he’s not good enough for a top 6 champ club but can’t see it anywhere? Link us up thanks.

I’d say every single person giving an opinion on his decline and if they mention next year it’s clear they mean if we get promoted and if it would it be a sensible signing. But I’m sure you knew this. If it was championship football and we could afford him it’s a no brainer.

We shouldn’t offer him a contract at all. Our business model should be getting young, hungry players in that can be sold for a handsome profit to enable us to spend to build the squad.
Kyle Walker doesn’t fit any of those categories.
But we have Jags a handsome contract for about five appearances just to have his experience around the gaff. There’s an argument (not mine) that he could help in that regard and play more.

When jags came we were in need of experience on and off the pitch I’m not sure we need Walker to fill the same roll apart from his playing experience

Premier league experience 💯

A must have for any newly promoted team, we had it in 19/20 with Jags, we didn't have hardly any of it last season (debatable how much difference it would have made, if any) but it's always useful to have experienced premier league players.

If we go up in the summer and Kyle comes back to us, I think he would play in midfield as he is still very strong and capable.
With Seriki looking like he has the physicality for the PL of he did come back I'd play him at centre back alongside a big bastard who wins everything in the air with Walker clearing up behind.

Seriki, Souttar, Walker, Burrows would be a far better back four than last season and with Cooper in net we might actually have a chance of being more defensively sound

I know we’re not into back 5s anymore but, bear with me, what about this…
Seriki Walker Souttar RND Burrows
would be defensively solid and you’d have the option of going to a back four by pushing either of the WBs into midfield. E.g. If Seriki moves up, Walker goes to RB and the rest slide across. If Burrows moves up RND goes to LB and the rest slide across.
Just a thought on a rainy Tuesday…🥳

Aga it's Wednesday 🤣

Anyway I'm not a fan of a back five....but then again I'm not a fan of the PL either....as one of my lads said to me after Coventry equalised....' why are we so pissed off when we don't want to go up anyway ' 🤷

He’s had a hell of a lot of criticism thrown his way this season, which I’m not sure is entirely warranted, but he’s not helping himself doing shite like that.

It still doesn’t change the fact he’s been this country’s best right back for years.

If Kyle is struggling in a team that has so much possession, how would he cope playing for team under the cosh ever game. No, I’d sooner spend his (considerable) potential wages on someone more befitting of this club…Harry Souttar

Don't understand this walker love fest from a lot of united fans ........
He's done now so I hope he takes the easy route to Saudi, which i always suspect he would have anyway...
Doesn’t seem to have any morals.

Because we are up the creek if we don’t get the PL dosh

The time for him to have returned was either last season or when we went up before.

But he was still performing at the top level well. However it would have halted his chance of more honours.

I'm not sure now it really works for us. Unless we stay down perhaps. Even then are we stunting the right back slot a bit from developing with Seriki or others.

He’s miles better than Seriki & Gilchrist. I don’t think that’s debatable.

Seriki needs to work on his defending we could all see that when he came up against a decent championship winger at West Brom who gave him a torrid time.

Having Walker around him helping him could really benefit Serikis career. The issue is that we wouldn’t even be able to pay Walker £50k a week and that’s probably a quarter of his current wage.

Also as some have said you’re giving a lot of your financial resources to one player and I’m not sure we would be able to do that if we’re wanting to get 4-5 players in at the same time.

He’ll have the option to go to Saudi and earn the same money if not more for a couple more years. I’d presume that’s what he’ll end up doing.

Don’t forget, Seriki will have served his appretiship, training and playing as a RWB, because that was the 1st team formation he was playing for! Of course elite players should be able to adapt, but it is noticeable that his game suffers when he is paired with JRS?

Back to Walker. Even with the benefit of better training and diet, any footballers career starts to decline as he reaches mid thirties. If a player wants or needs the financial support at that age, he usually played one or two seasons in MLS. Now there is the option of Middle East wealth also, so a retiring or declining career can be extended.

Much will depend on Walkers ability and financial needs. No doubting his outstanding ability, but likewise, his retirement from the game will grow inexorably closer, with every passing month.

In his position, no one would blame him for taking the money. SUFC is not equipped to take any kind of financial risks, even if Walker wanted it.
