It's true – there's a story this week in my local paper, the Newbury Weekly News, about a man named Bob Clark celebrating his 107th birthday. Born in Sheffield in 1906 and "a supporter of Sheffield United for 100 years". So the club had only been going 24 years when he started. A living link with the earliest days of SUFC.

On a similar theme, my Uncle Fred in Hackenthorpe is in his 90s and says he clearly remembers as a child seeing the 1925 FA Cup winners parading the trophy round the city centre. I took my nipper, also Fred (pictured on the left) to see his great-uncle almost as soon as he was born so that even if we never win anything in his lifetime, which is looking quite likely, at least he would have met a family member who had seen us win something.

Sweet Baby Jesus and the Orphans, he has watched some serious amounts of shite!

He was 19 when we won the Cup the last time.

Can I meet him ;)

You think he would have found a better team by now, old lad.

Many happy returns of the day, Bob. Just in case you're looking.

It's character building being a Blade.

At least there's one Blade who supported us when we actually used to win things. Thoroughly enjoyed the 4th division championship season (probably more than any other in my lifetime other than when Currie was at his peak) but wouldn't consider it as "winning" something, more repairing something that was broken. Will any of us posting today ever live long enough to see us win the Prem or the FA Cup? Sorry been watching too much science fiction recently

Would have never thought that there would be any Blades fan living in Newbury during my years at Mary Hare school (which is about 3 miles from Newbury town centre) between 1973 and 1979! There was a pupil a year above me who was from Fleetwood that supported the Blades between 1971 (probably a glory hunter then!) and 1974 before switching to Everton and then Blackpool also a pupil 3 years above me who was from Grenoside and has always supported Wendy but during the 1974/75 season I saw him wearing a Blades silk scarf a number of times (we were doing well that season and Wendy were shite!). I still see him and often remind him of wearing that scarf at school whenever he tries to take the mickey out of the Blades poor performances

He has seen two Cup wins which is two more than anyone under 90 has seen
Our celebrations in winning the 1915 FA Cup were very muted because of the public's criticism in the FA's decision that the 1914-15 FA cup should continue despite the war. Our players were not allowed to parade the cup! I would imagine Bob's parents telling him that there are more important things to think about than our run in the FA cup!

I've just worked out that that bloke has experienced more misery than China did under Mao.

But not as much as the UK under the Thatcherbeast.

All the best, Bob. Have a greasy chip butty and a woodbine. Careful though, it could reduce your life expectancy!

A fantastic accolade.

Is it just me,
but is anybody else beginning to think Doyle is going to be in our midfield for 100 years.

Tied around the wrist:)
you probably can't do that these days because of some health and safety regulation.
Too tight and your hand might fall off.
Too long and it's a trip hazard
If you smoke it might catch fire.
They could put some weds ones in the stalls in the bogs though.
