He's probably watched himself play this season and realised the end of his career will be much sooner than he thought. If he wants a move to Spain or Italy on a nice juicy contract for a slightly slower paced game to prolong his career, he's got to go now before he declines any more, sure a bit of Saudi money would be an OK consolation prize if that doesn't work out.

He's quickly realised (or his agent) that his performance has significantly dropped this season. This Jan transfer window is probably his last chance to have some bargaining power in contract talks, especially while hes still playing for England (he won't make it to the next international tournament however)

The only chance he'll come back to us now is if he comes back on loan in the off season of wherever he ends up.

And he needs a big payday to carry on paying his bastards and flames inheritance
