Watch out Burnley are coming

Parkers a decent manager, he'll get a team performing to their expected level

Eg a top 6 team into the top 6.

But I don't think he'd be able to do a Rob Edwards or Chris Wilder and get a team floundering around bottom of Championship or in League 1 challenging for promotion to the prem.

Burnley.

Decent defense.
Scoring goals.
Getting consistent results.

Burnley = automatic promotion likely.

Despite me disliking the manager, they seem to be doing well.

Leeds, Boro, and Blades others ….. inconsistent.

Without emojis, not sure if you’re joking 😀

This Sheffield United team (excluding off field pillockery) is the first team in the division to accumulate 40 points. After 18 matches. That’s an onfield return of 2.22 points per game.

I’m not sure how inconsistency can be sighted with that degree of evidence.

We all know you fret bumps on the road, but that tracks at 102 points, 100 with the off-field idiocy.

Burnley’s 2 points per game takes them to 92. Leeds’ 1.94 gets them to 89.

We’d have to drop to around 1.82 points per game for the rest of the season to fall behind Leeds’ current rate of travel and 1.92 to fall behind Burnley.

I’d hope we do better against Leeds next time and there is enough to signal we got it wrong at their place. But fact is, there is nothing they can do to influence when we play the likes of Plymouth, Cardiff etc and the rest of the division. We have an advantage. We just need to focus game by game.

This might change as the season progresses but I’ve not looked out for a single other team yet. What will be, will be. That last PL season was so painful that even though I know the state of our finances are strongly tied to promotion I could take it or leave it at this point. I’m just enjoying watching this young side do so well. If we end up getting promoted, fine. If we don’t, whatever.
Unless we go up our Crown Jewels will no longer belong to us. So as much as its a catch 22, we have to go up, the inevitable relegation will also be followed by another promotion challenge.
I’ve seen the future

You do know we have more points, more wins and scored more goals than Burnley don’t you?
Please point me in the direction of our inconsistency..

Even though he got them promoted with Fulham he is despised there with some of the fans I know mainly due to his depressing football style. Although it’s not a bad idea to have game plan built on defence, the “fashionable” thing is to have that quick attacking football but it does leave you open on the counter. The Parker experience is like going to Nando’s and getting a mild or herb and lemon rather than extra hot

Despite your unwillingness to be reminded of it, our performances, win, lose or draw, have been inconsistent. Our league position does not indicate that, but performances remain inconsistent. Not just inexperienced youth players, but senior pros like Hamer and O’Hare too.

Like it or not, our performances are inconsistent, and while I am happy to be at the top, we could do much better. We might get away with it in the Championship, but not if we are promoted to the EPL.

Tell me we deserved to win against Bristol City? Tell me we did not have struggles against Coventry, and we were fortunate to get a point? Play great one week, not so good the next. Irrespective of all the good stuff happening around us, we do fail to dominate some sides.
Our current league position is great, but it is temporary unless we gain greater consistency!

If you actually watched the Burnley game at Stoke yesterday you could say much the same thing.

Stoke were especially poor. They left gaps where even the most basic teams wouldn’t. It felt like they were playing with no left back at times. They made some poor decisions in the final third. I didn’t find Burnley especially creative despite this.

Plenty of Burnley fans are bemoaning Parker for stifling their creativity.

In the Championship it’s about finding a way. Keep the ball out somehow and be clinical when it comes your turn. The 3 points we got against Sunderland when not being at our best only amount to the same as the three we got against Oxford when we coasted to victory and when we beat Stoke with ease.

Over 46 matches, unless your resources dwarf those of everyone else, then I’d say it’s nigh on impossible to be consistently good all the time over 46 games.

Good news is that you don’t have to be. You just have to be consistently good enough.

Without some boardroom shenanigans, we‘re a genuine 40 point team and over 18 matches that’s better than Burnley by 4 and 5 better than Leeds.

It’s not a beauty contest, it’s a results contest and we play for points. So far, in that regard, Sheffield United are the Cinderella and Leeds and Burnley are the ugly sisters because we have accumulated 40 points (ok, net 38), and they haven’t!

They fucked us in 2009 for which I've never forgiven them and they put 5 past us twice last season , so they are proper challengers , make no mistake.
They've got squad depth and access to cash so they are not going to fall away.
How do you know what they have or haven't got access to
You are making an assumption based on fear and negativity as usual

They started this season in a similar financial situation to us as did Leeds

Most blades I saw expected us to finish outside the play off places I personally fancied us to be top six but thought Leeds and Burnley would be nailed on for top 2

They've not been as good as I expected and we've done much better
The fact our manager is getting results in games we aren't playing well in and actually over achieving should be celebrated but as usual the same old miserable fanny's on here with the same miserable losers attitude to everything who seemingly can't even be happy about winning games or being top of the league, same as last time we got promoted

I just don't get it
You know life is short and it's mostly fucking shit, if you can't enjoy the good times what's the fucking point ?

Consortium means that there's nobody that can actually afford the club so they've all had a whip round
This is flawed thinking. The consortium members might each be perfectly capable of affording the club, but choose to pool the risk with others. We will hardly be the only investment each member makes, we will be part of their portfolio.

Fair enough - but I don't think they will fall away just because their manager wears fancy clothes 😃

Not any more coz CW has said he's "spoken to them" about discipline 🤣

He didn't mention whether they appeared to understand him or have the cognitive and/or emotional intelligence to avoid completely unnecessary red cards in future.

I remember Simon Tracey running out of his area (at Spurs or Palace I think) to clatter a player and duly getting sent off. God knows who went in net.
Harry Bassett later said in the radio interview that his GK always had the brains of a rocking-horse !

Can't say that kind of thing these days but it made me laugh and it's stuck in my unselective memory for 30+ years.
You will shortly be hearing from the Society for Preservation and Fulfilment of Rocking Horses.

I reckon Burnley will be a tough game. They'll play similar to Sunderland i.e. stay tight and try and hit us with pace. They just look better at the back and more clinical up front that Sunderland

If we don't... We lose our good lads
That’s just the nature of supporting a club like ours. You spend too long worrying about the future, you don’t really enjoy the present. Even if we get promoted, we might get hammered every week and lose the good lads anyway. I’d be happy to take promotion but I’m not going to spend time worrying about what the likes of Leeds and others are doing.

5 teams in it for top 2 us leeds burnley sunerlan and boro was very impressed with sunderland friday night i was expecting them to fall away but after seing em i think they will stay the distance big game for us boxing day with burnley their not going away either

Good Philosophy !

All that matters is we are consistently winning and will continue to do so.
Do you watch many Burnley matches to judge their performances?
Stats tell the story that we are better than them- that’s the barometer I’m bothered about.

We must be the luckiest team in the league.
