We're gonna need a bigger pub
Was thinking of going in King William IV, how do you plan on getting to the ground from Tap East?
In the Westfield shopping centre at the far end from the tube station, next to Waitrose.
I was sceptical about a real ale boozer in a shopping centre but it's been done really quite well and it had some cracking beers on tap, including one Russian Imperial IPA at 7.5% which floored Ollessendro.
moDtheGod yes, that terrible pub which WalthamstowBlade
took us to was the King Billy. I'd rather head straight to Walthamstow Village, from my patchy memory of the post game tour last year there are some lovely pubs there.
You got your ticket yet, Balham Blade ?
I did question the logic of Foxy advertising it in such a way, knowing how tiny it is...
When we went, the bar was in an L-shape so was larger than shown in the picture... I don't know whether the picture is older or newer than our last trip.
Don't! It's one of the worst pubs I have been in. It's in the ale guide and even in a London's besty pubs and bars book, in fact they list it as in the top 25. However the beer was gash, landlord a patronising arsehole and it was full of West Ham fans. To say it was hostile is an understatement. The building was nice, but I would not go back for all the tea in China. it's not very often I leave my pint behind, but I got the fuck out of that place as quick as I could (leaving half a pint behind).
I feel I should stick up for the William IV a bit here. Yes, the area is a dump, but then pub predates all that. Yes, the beer is pretty strong, order a Babycham next time. Yes, there were West Ham fans, they were on the big screen as the Scammers were playing Arsenal that evening.
It's nowt t do wi how strong it is. It's just badly kept, horrible shite. Perhaps you feel some affiliation to it, bein a cockney n all that, but my opinion is the place is gash. When I go to an ale house I look for character, atmosphere and good beer. It had one of those, in that it is a lovely old Georgian/Edwardian building, but the beer was gash and the atmosphere feral. Maybe you found the ambience ok, it being full of people from East London. I certainly didn't! There won't be a next time to 'order a Babysham', as I am staying well clear of the place.
I'm not sure what we are doing now, King William was pretty good last time I went in two seasons ago, tap east is a a bit small. I went in a nice pub that day our cup game got cancelled but can't remember what it was called.
it's an older photo. I was in a few months ago and the bar is L shaped. There's a wee bit more seating than there used to be, and a few more outdoor tables, but it could well be standing room only and outside at this rate... which I like in fact - car park drinking being a particular favourite pastime of mine, this could be an interesting variation and good training experience.I did question the logic of Foxy advertising it in such a way, knowing how tiny it is...

Googlemaps seems to give you some roundabout stroll through Wetlands. If Marsh Warblers are your thing...
Sounds delightful but the Marsh Warblers will be long gone by now. There's a Golden-Winged Warbler and a Common Yellowthroat turned up in Kent this week so you never know but if I was in the mood for twitching this weekend, I'd be heading down to Pembrokeshire for the Western Orphean Warbler, which of course is nowhere near Brisbane Road but hey-ho...
Me and a fellow Blade will be traveling down from Peterborough and Kettering respectively. We'll be meeting up at superb The Parcel Yard at Kings Cross 11am before heading east. TapEast looks a decent bet so watch out for two ever so slightly tired and emotional chaps sometime after 12.
