If we can't get shut of him could use him to chase the ball down to see out games just like the Matt Done role.

Would obviously have to start winning for that though!

If or more like when he returns I'll give him a chance if he stays part of the squad. But I remember thinking at the time. "How confident are our scouting/management that this lad can step up to top end championship or PL?".

It still annoys me that the small budget we had we spent on "development players" in Slimane, Traore and in a way Larouchi. Because I know he's a loan with option but that is how it was sold to us. And it's still an expense.

Crazy to think we spent over 6m on these three and players like Ogbene and Barkley were frees.

In fairness I thought Barkley might be on the way down career wise.
He's done well at Luton though.
That said he has always had quality so might have been a worthwhile punt. Turns out it certainly was for Luton.

Ogbene however I didn't realise he was a free. Decent for a free.

To be fair he's getting some decent comments on twitter, being compared to a perennial starter at Nantes in Moses Simon so they may take up the option to buy. 188 minutes 1 assist thus far

I was positive about Anel, always said he's be a good addition. Maybe even suggested him before he came? As reports came on Benie I was very sceptical - just browse back and read my evaluation, its there. I seem to be right, even after giving him time as he is not great for Nantes either. Still young, but at the moment not there. Very strange why we would spend so much on such an unproven player that only had a few months of success in Sweden. As a club being promoted and playing in a way we do - both with Hecky and Wilder - its unbelievable. Even in the Swedish league you could see he had a lot of things to improve, but playing for the Champions that dominated games, even my late grandmother would be scoring.... Who scouted him and felt he was worth so much money? For a big club I would understand the gamble as they buy on potential - 1/10 is a success that will "pay" for the rest of the lads that never make it... But for us, promoted and desperate for players that could go straight into the team and improving us from the season before? I just dont understand.

Even if he would be a Bergvall - that cost Spurs 10 million, still not a player that will go into the team and be better than what we have/had... If we necessary have to look at Sweden, Yalcouyé and Nanasi are interesting, but could never afford...

Someone for the future, definitely, but we need to get a few lads in who will make us better right now, not towards the end of the season or next year. I'd be stunned if he would go in and deliver straight from the start. I sort of like the signing, but only if we sign more qualified and experienced players who we come in and deliver straight from the start of the season. He is one for the future - not even clocked up 40 senior games in the Swedish league (the 23rd in Europe, behind leagues from Cyprus, Czech Republic, Israel and Serbia). Very good and promising, but just want to put it into perspective in terms what to expect from him.

July verdict. Im still sort of positive long-term, but not for Sheff Utd and not in England. His style of play will probably fit better elsewhere.

Good player indeed, seen all his games this season. Will probably end up in Ligue 1, but would definetely be a good addition for us.
Half right… he did end up in Ligue 1.

Terrible addition.

In fairness in some of forte post after this he basically said.
  • Swedish league is a poor standard ✅
  • He’s young and extremely inexperienced (only played 40 games for Hacken) ✅
  • He plays for a team that dominate offensively so the team probably mask much of his inabilities.✅
  • He didn’t think he would impact our first team ✅
But he did describe him as ‘good’. First statement aside a pretty solid and well rounded overview.

Yeah, they should listen to me :)

Pretty much everything on point, yes!

Pretty much. Head Scandi scout! Any players out there that we should have our eye on now?
Quite a few but Im afraid that we're not in a position today to attract top players from Sweden. But Pittas, AIK striker, would be probably be good at Championship level. Im factoring in his playing style in that judgement also. But will probably head to Greece or Turkey in the summer...

Season just ended in Sweden. Will be interesting to keep up with the developments of: Hugo Bolin, Baz Touré, Lamine Fanne, Elliot Stroud, Lasse Berg Johnsen and a few more.

Blades scouting team, please check with me if you are contemplating signing someone from the Swedish league. Doubts? Check my posts here and my previous analysis of players we've been linked to and then signed. Anel, Benie...
Hmmm. I was right (again) on this one. Not good enough.
Where is he now?
