Kyle 'Blade' Walker

He is a ludicrously good footballer...possibly the best of his generation in his position. You don't spend that long as first choice for Man City and England if you're not the real deal. He's had a career that he would never have dared to dream of when he was growing up in (I think?) Arbourthorne (I may be wrong on that). He's made for life, as are his (many) kids.

He's coming to the end of his career, at the very top level at least. If it was really all about the love of his boyhood club, then he'd come to us next summer (if we want/need him) and write off the last year of his contract (again, if City don't want/need him anymore).

He could pay us to play for us. He won't, and nobody with a brain would expect him to, but if he really is dead-set on ending his career with us, then a man in his financial position would take whatever token wage we offered. £20k a week (for example) is peanuts to him.

Totally agree!

Sharrow btw - Lansdowne estate. Probably could see the Lane from their flat!

Santi Cazorla signed for Real Oviedo in 2023, the club he previously played for and had bought shares in and stated he’d happily play for free, but the league rules state players have to be paid. So he got paid €93,000. That’s about £80,000. Not a week, not even a month, but for the year. Now I know that’s decent money for most of us on here, but it works out at just over a grand and a half a week, which for a footballer of Cazorla’s pedigree isn’t much. I can’t see Kyle Walker agreeing to that kind of deal, no matter how much he loves us.

I’d love him to join us but cannot see it happening until he can’t get a big money contract off others.

By all accounts he is set for a divorce so that’s at least half his wealth gone and if it’s true he is paying £20k per month child support he is going to have to be careful financially.
He would be mad to turn down a big contract from Saudi with the position he’s in.

i wouldnt write kyle off yet for making a return to the lane doubt money would be a major factor although of course he wont come for peanuts

it’s a bit like the Jags thing this.

Not only can we not afford even a fraction of his wages or any sort of realistic transfer fee, we also aren’t good enough to match his ambition whilst he’s still good.
But when we are in a position where we might be able to actually sign him, it’ll be because he’s not as good as he was.

So we either don’t get him, or we get him well past his peak.

Admittedly, he is good enough that even ‘well past his peak’ could still be easily an improvement on what we have. Like McGrath was for those 12 games or however long it was before his knees finally gave up.

yes it could be next season especially if we get back to the premier league

if we get promoted this season and with new owners i think this will happen

He needs to say "I would play for the blades for nothing if I can end my career there", he knows the club's financial situation and what he may be paid, if he's going to haggle over wages then he needs to shut up

Signing for us in the summer apparently.. Not sure how I feel about this, he'll be 35 by then (assuming we go up this year). He'd provide amazing experience and leadership but surely we'd be better developing a young right back?

Who writes this shite?

In what universe are Sheffield United paying £15m for a 35 year old?

We won’t be paying 15million for a 35 year old right back / cb.

Pretty sure they’ll reach a mutual agreement to cancel his contract and then allow him to leave on a free. His wages will be high so we won’t be able to afford a fee and wages

As always, amazing experience and one of, if not the most decorated Englishman, let alone Sheffielder.

The article says more or less he's not coming here.

My understanding of the article is that he’ll end up in Saudi. He’ll need the cash that we can’t and shouldn’t match for someone of his age.

In the words of Jeremy Kyle, if he’d put something on the end of it, it might have happened.

Now, I really don’t think it will

Not happening imo
If he can get £400k/week in Saudi that’s where he’ll go and especially if true his wife is after half his fortune
Well, we could offer him 3k per week, therefore she will only take part of this, saving him money!!!!
