I do remember a hut on the right of Ridgeway Rd about half way between Gleadless Church and Town End, would be 1940's early 50's. If memory serves there were two families living there like in a semi. Lad in our class lived in it and I occasionally went to play but never went inside.

They were basic, on stilts with a Yorkshire range and had thier own fire brigade of volunteers and fire trolley as they regularly caught fire due to either the range or gas lights .
They were demolished at the start of WW2 , as one incendury bomb would have taken the lot out .
Most moved to parsons cross, lindsay Rd area which to the residents was like a Palace by comparison .

North Bend, Washington state back when they were logging. It's about 60 miles south of us, interesting little town and I seem to remember they filmed Twin Peaks there.

I had a burger at 5 Guys in Newcastle today. They have the locations of 5 Guys restaurants all over the world painted on the walls and, knowing where most of them were, my eyes were drawn to North Bend, about which, until I saw your post, I knew nothing.

Appreciate, , it all fell in place as soon as you mentioned WW1, every day's a school day.

That's why I really like this thread. Love the old Blades stuff and the games from the late 60's and 70's have me closing my eyes and drifting back to the kop, the smell of cigs and Bovril, running round with knee high jeans, Doc Martens, star jumper and obligatory silk scarf and for whatever reason, it was a magic that you could never explain to anyone who didn't experience it.

The other stuff? Some fascinating facts and memories of days gone by that set the old mind thinking and it's never too late to learn owt. I love it
