What this talks to is something much bigger and much uglier. Which is, the absolute contempt the authorities have in this country towards football fans.
It is an attitude that dates back to the time of Thatcher, the sort of disregard for football fans which help result in the Hillsborough disaster.
Outside of countries where alcohol is forbidden for religious or cultural reasons, I can't think of anywhere else in the world where you can't drink alcohol in the stands at a sporting event (I'm more than happy to be corrected if I'm wrong on this point).
Even in this country, you can take drinks into the stands of any other sport - cricket, rugby, tennis, racing, you name it. It is only in this country and only for football where this absurd and outdated prohibition still exists.
I've been to sporting events around the world and not even had to leave my seat to get a beer - they bring them to you! That's how people should be treated, but unfortunately football fans in this country are treated more like animals by the powers that be.

The number of people surprised by this, and furthermore willing to sit on their high horse about it surprises me. Who gives a fuck. Let people do what they want to do. It has no impact on you whatsoever
It does have an impact. While I'm on the edge on my seat, feeling like every blade in the stadium is also desperate to hang on to the win and then celebrate it with the players, people streaming out to beat the traffic does undermine that a bit.

Nobody has said people should be forced to stay in their seat, nobody can stop people doing what they want to do. Some just want to comment on it, maybe with the hope that some will reassess.

You can certainly make an argument that some of that reputation has been earned. Not sure I've seen the same level of crowd trouble at any of those sports. Especially interesting considering the cricket and rugby are two sports that you'd argue have a bigger drinking population.

I get all the ‘fans can do what they want’ brigade. That’s fine. But given everything that’s happened over last season and the summer, I personally want to thank the players and management for a performance like Saturdays, and making me feel connected and enjoying watching the Blades again by staying after the final whistle.
Fucking hell mate, do you go into the dressing room after the match and bend over for them? I did thank them, I gave them 40 quid towards their wages.

I frequently leave just after the final whistle (as I did for the Swansea game) I just like the after match players/fans thing after a good performance, which all the players contributed to last Saturday, the result aside.

I take your point, but many fans have a few drinks before a match (and at half time) and there is very little crowd trouble inside stadiums these days. I don't see how prohibiting fans drinking in the stands helps matters. Indeed, surely it means some are more likely to 'binge' before the match at at half time.

Madri is fairly minging to be honest.

Overly bitter, yet at the same time far too sweet. One too many of those, and you are heading for a stonker of a headache in the morning.

Maybe that's because people aren't drinking in their seats.

It is a double edged sword though, my brother has heavily complained about going to Twickenham because it just seems that everyone on his row is up to the bar ever few minutes.

Lets be right. The Americans know what to do. Everything can be delivered to your seat at US sports events. I just find it more of a pain in the arse going for beer at the lane, its not worth the aggravation or time spent-for some piss rank beer.

Never work at the Lane, they'd only be allowed to bring one drink, to one seat at a time and then only give it to you if you could prove your loyalty points status, address and inside leg measurement. They'd sell about three pints at each match.

it takes the players an eternity to come over to the Kop/South Stand after the match.
I did notice for the first time that the players don't come over to the SS/BL corner at all after the match. They head over to the family stand/BL corner first, then make their way around clockwise to the tunnel. Only Wilder acknowledged those in the aforementioned corner

I went to the games during 6 years in league 1, if some habits have stuck to go down a few mins early for a pint then so be it

This may cross threads into the unpopular views topic however.
If I've spent about half the cost of my season ticket on away match in London I'm probably going nowhere quickly then some recognition of support by the team/cw is appreciated.
Then again I'm really not bothered about the lap of mutual applause after every home game , it's all a bit unnecessary and a relatively new phenomena.
Some may love it ,fair enough they can stay , equally there are those not so bothered .

I’m in the each to their own camp but I think I mentioned it on some other post, compared with a few years ago it takes the players an eternity to come over to the Kop/South Stand after the match.

It’s just the way the game is so it’s not a criticism but by the time they’ve stood in the centre circle shaking hands with everyone and their grandmother and then spent an eternity at the JSS end, it can often by 5-6 mins after the full time whistle before they make their way over.

Again, that’s not been critical but might be a reason why some fans decide not to hand around
I stuck around to clap them off on Saturday as I wasn’t in a rush but they need to knock off that business of hanging around in the John St corner for 5 mins or so.

There was barely anyone left when they made it round to the Kop. Surely a quick wave will suffice given they will be seeing them in the players lounge after the match.

It does if you sit to the left of a gangway on the left hand side of the kop and 300 people are streaming down it, stopping if something exciting happens.

I was one of them.

It's the circle of urine. Lose a pint in the urinals, then refill with Madri.

Watch the game in the concourse whilst multi tasking

Why even bother going to your seat then?
It’s because the bar opens on 35 minutes, after kick off. That’s why everyone leaves at exactly that time. Otherwise, you won’t be served before half time is finished.

It’d be better if the caterers used some common sense and pre-poured x amount of pints to save some time. They won’t be hanging around long and it’d give them a massive head start and they’d sell more.

The kop staying behind has become a thing due to the sheer difficulty of getting out of the place. Even when we were shitola in league one a lot would stay behind rather than joining the exit scrum. It suits everyone as those who desperately want to get out straight away now have less competition.

It must be pretty special for the players to still see a huge crowd on there singing ten minutes or so after full time. It's an inadvertently good thing imo.

There used to be people with bottles in bags.I thought that was a good idea - especially now a lot of things are contactless or online. I'm not sure if the Fanzone has helped with getting served quickly, but in theory it should have.

Don't think we're alone. Remember the Sunderland fans last wknd, was a mass exodus at the 82nd minute, the missed around 13 minutes of plays (approx 12% of the game) aswell as the equaliser. Should hang their heads in shame.

Does it really matter? 😂 people have paid for their ticket they can do as they please way i see it anyway. I remember them having plastic bottles of heineken behind the bars and it being a quicker service

Were they dressed in Blue? They probably left to get changed into more Bladey colours.

Perhaps they also want to support the club financially. They realised that we were 1-0 and in no danger, so they went to boost the coffers slurping a few lagers. Proper blades sacrifice themselves
They’re sacrificing themselves for Compass then!

Yeah I remember those on the Kop, i think during 06/07? Would be a good idea.

My issue with that would the 18 year olds. 3 pints of carling pre match, carrying a structurally compromised plastic cup of beer full to the brim, swaying down the extremely tight kop, spilling most of the beer down the necks of those in front. 90% of the kop would go home stinking of beer!

Can manage 8 pints easily with these - common sight in Germany, etc
