Five clean sheets in a row

Agree we had no control over midfield....Swansea totally dominated the centre circle.
but once we went 1-0 up the game was effectively over.
At no point in the 2nd half did Swansea look like they could score. It's bizarre that last year we had one of our worse defence in decades and a year later (early days yet) we might just have our best defence in decades.

In the Kop we were saying in the 2nd half that we look so comfortable defending against this toothless Swansea side that surely we must win.
When they had corners or free kicks swung in....you never felt concerned because with giants like Souttar, Anel and Moore we'll rarely concede from a set piece. A few agreed but commented that you can just imagine Swansea scoring from their only chance.

Our defence was busy last night but yet again our goalie had very little to do.
I remember 1 half decent save from Cooper in the 2nd half but it was a save that all goalies should save.
Perhaps I've been watching us too long, but at no point in that 2nd half did I think this is effectively over, especially given the amount of daft freekicks we conceded on the edge of the box. The tension in the ground was palpable until the ref blew for full time.

You said Cooper had a few saves to make? Statistically he made one.

But as you say you must be talking about another game as your analysis on the game is wildly wrong.
If you read it again, I didn't say he had 'a few', I actually said he 'had few' saves, which is the same as saying 'not many'.

From the responses I've had, it seems there are plenty of folk who saw the same game as me and I'm sure there are many who saw the same game as you. I'll be interested to see what Deadbat made of it in his report.

Wilder got his first choice centre halves that he wanted. He got his first choice goalkeeper he wanted and left back.

Right back Gilchrist wasn’t the top of his list as we went for Hoever and we were forced into selling Bogle.

But it’s not really cooncidence Wilder gets his first choice players on 4 out of 5 positions and we look amazing in that area of the pitch.

Now we need to do the same again in midfield and attack.
The first time he got us promoted we looked just the same as we do now . Fabulous defence but had a problem scoring. If he had got the striker that he wanted in the window we could be the team to beat in the Championship . The lad scored 4 for Stoke last night just think if we had a player who could take their chances like he did we would be mega . The defence is our strong point and that could be out ticket to the prem , not that I like the prem but we need the cash .

I think we're quite similar to the Hecky promotion season right now - well organised, solid at the back and have one player with the X-factor. Under Hecky it was Ndiaye, this season it's Hamer. However, I do think there's a couple of candidates who could step up in JRS and O'Hare.
Agree. This team does have a similar feel to it. Which is a surprise actually because I thought the change of formation would make us more open, but more dangerous.

We all probably underestimated the quality we had that season - we won promotion at a canter in retrospect (admittedly in a relatively poor championship). I’d be surprised if we did the same this year. We’re a much younger team than that one, without the grizzled old guard - we’ll be more inconsistent I imagine. Egan, Baldock, Berge etc gave consistent 7/10s practically every match. Cant expect the same from Gilchrist, Arblaster, Burrows etc.

I feel like this year we might reach higher highs in an attacking sense, though. Hamer, JRS and O’Hare are surely going to give someone a proper beating soon. But it hasn’t happened so far.

A few things on that point:
  • 3 of the back 4 are new players and not haunted by last season or wedded to the back 5 system
  • We've got a holding midfielder in Souza who is defend first, unlike Norwood who was a quarter back type
  • Arblaster (and Peck) are quite combative and provide another level of security to the defence
  • Gilchrist is not a wingback by trade, but a CB and again, has a defend first mentality
  • Cooper has introduced an aura of calm and competence we have not seen since Henderson
It's all making for a very solid foundation

our defence deserves all credit its going to get i was looking. as we know last night was our 5th clean sheet in a row. that is same as we managed in our previous 47 league games between 7th apr 2023 & 24th aug 2024. spanning promotion season, last season & this season

I think it's a bit harsh to say we did not play well at all.

Brooks probably should have had 2, Moore probably should have buried his chance but was maybe a tad unlucky. Anel could have scored from a free header.

We also got into some good positions again but were a bit wasteful (like when Brooks overhit his pass out for a goal kick).

Thought it was a deserved victory despite having less of the ball.

At some point we're going to have a day where everyone is on it in the final third and we'll give someone a good pasting.
November 10th?

All the successful teams have a solid spine. It looks like we have one ⚔️⚔️⚔️

We undoubtedly had the better chances but we were very lucky to go in 1-0 up at half time, had a ten minute spell where we should have scored at least another and then spent the rest of the half defending our lead. We had no control of the game at all but defended really well and to be fair, Cooper actually had few saves to make.
100%

If it was the one I saw on SSN then yeah, nice looking save but you’re disappointed if it goes in
