Decent Blades players you'd completely forgotten about

How many players can you think of that played just one memorable game for the Blades , then disappeared without a trace? One that sticks in my mind was Richard Harwood . He made his debut aged 18 at home against Sunderland, in a 3-2 win which was on match of the day. He caught the eye in an impressive debut, even though Alex Sabella stole the show , and looked like one for the future. However he only made one more league appearance , and drifted away , never playing for another league club.

Tyrone Thompson looked great in the cup against Ipswich.

I'll just leave this here, lovey

Peterborough United 1 - 3 Sheffield United (Cowshit Stadium)
Swindon Town 0 - 2 Sheffield United (Mudbath Lane)
Sheffield United 1 - 3 Bury (Superduper Desso)
Sheffield United 2 - 3 Colchester United (Superduper Desso)
Sheffield United 1 - 2 Milwall (Superduper Desso)
Sheffield United 2 - 4 Shrewsbury Town (Superduper Desso)
Scunthorpe 0 - 1 Sheffield United (The Anushole Ground)
Sheffield United 2 - 3 Peterborough United (Superduper Desso)
Colchester United 1 - 2 Sheffield United (Satan's Very Own Angry Bullet Spewing Hot Diahorrea Onto The Pitch Stadium)
Sheffield United 0 - 2 Wigan Athletic (Superduper Desso)
Doncaster Rovers 0 - 1 Sheffield United (Not a bad stadium. Pitch is a horror show in February though. And Jamie Murphy cracked in a 25 yarder the previous season with 10 men, but that's irrelevant … )
Sheffield United 0 - 1 Burton Albion (Superduper Desso)
Chesterfield 0 - 3 Sheffield United (For Fuck's Sake The ref's gotta call this one off Stadium)
Shrewsbury Town 1 - 2 Sheffield United (Jesus fucking Christ. Get Me Wellies Ground)
Sheffield United 0 - 2 Scunthorpe (They like playing on the Superduper Desso, do Scunny)

Oh, and

Sheffield United 0 - 1 Morecambe (who?)

As I patiently explained to coco (and he never replied to when I did) that's a fucking hatful of points (27) we just pissed away on our Superduper Desso pitch, y'think? Especially when we did so blummen well away on shitholes like Shrewsbury and Colchester, who'd already beaten us on the Desso.

So, take your theory and moisten it a little, make it into a liddle biddy torpedo shape, lie on your side, get relaxed, lift up one knee to your chest, take a breath and hold it, find your fart-piece and slip the motherfucker in. Push it deep, so it won't come out next time you come out with bollocks like you have done. The stats uphold my side of it. They refute yours. We played just as well away - in some cases better - on shitbox cowfields as we did on the wonder pitch. If you don't believe me, have another look. If you don't believe me even then, have another look. It won't change each time you do.

Strangely, as soon as we got a decent manager and players (i.e the following season), our fortunes changed. And here we are. In Wilder we trust.

I'm crying with laughter.
Oh. Chico Hamilton.

John Lundstrem - oops sorry wrong thread.

Should be in the 'shit players whose name never gets spelled correctly' thread.

Still none the wiser why we sold him

If memory serves he only had a one year contract and we had no choice. But then again my memory is awful so I could be talking out my arse.

Chris Bettney made his only appearance in a 1-1 draw at Tranmere in 1997. He came on at half time, played well, and never played again.

amazed to see matt killgallon playing fir hamilton accies on motd scotland yesterday
he was a bit all over the place tbf

Paul Parker was mentioned on Radio 5 this morning, didn't we have him for a few games on loan at some stage?

Phil Thompson #2.

Came to us late on after a good career at the top. The last thing he wanted to do was risk an injury at some no-mark lower league club, so he took no risks. None.

Paul Parker was mediocre at best and at his worst - Bradford away on Boxing Day 1996 - was absolutely dreadful.

Mediocre is very generous but he probably did just enough to stay out of that exclusive group of 'Really shit veterans'. The group is lead by Marcus Bent (for his second spell), and includes James Beattie (second spell) Dean Hammond and that Scottish wizard Jimmy Johnstone. The latter lost his wand by the time he'd come to us. Probably in a pub......

Jim Bone . We signed him from Norwich with Trevor Hockey going the other way if I remember rightly? A Scottish International striker , John Harris brought him to play alongside Billy Dearden , & for a while they formed a very good partnership. Unfortunately his early promise did not last , & he finished up going back to play in Scotland.

Jim Bone scored with one of the bravest headers I've ever seen .

It was in a match where we had totally dominated and done everything but score ( against West Ham I think but I daren't say that because Silent might come along and prove me wrong ) and just when it looked like ending in a draw , we got a corner at the kop end .

The ball came in only about 2 feet off the ground into a melee of players from both sides swinging a boot at it and Bone dived in amongst all those swinging boots and headed it home .

Never seen anything quite as courageous as that one .

Jan Aga...........::.......................................................Fjortoft. Quality player and great impression of an aeroplane when he scored.
Signed from Dingles I think!

No doubt I was beaten to this, but: we signed him from Middlesbrough, and sold him to the Dingles.

Ian Rush?

Wasn't there a great B&W still of him in mid air knocking that one in?

He was another Phil Starbuck, wasn't he?

Not quite as brave going down near the boots, but John Stead knew he'd get clattered by the Wigan goalie and was right. It should have been the most important goal in our history to keep us in the land of muneh.....

I remember Jim Bone best for his big hairy chads. Proper "diggers" they were. "JCB's".

I remember when we signed him no one could understand how we would fit him into the team. Because that team was the same every week, just about. It rarely changed and no one seemed droppable. I agree Bone was a good player btw - but Hockey was a big loss. He's remained my favourite Blades player of all time. Don't think we'll ever see another character like him. Lovely bloke too.

Richard was my next door neighbour on the scowerdons estate, he had a good game that day, if I remember rightly he started doing plastering/decorating, strange he never carried on playing. Albert Broadbent who played for Wendy lived 3 houses away from us both, when we got off the bus he used to stand by his kitchen window with thumbs down if we lost, never saw him if we had won 😆

Thought JCR was alright, the last out and out winger we've seen since Brookes and the palace lad I think?

I remember we had a Swedish player who was decent but I can’t remember his name. One of Bassett’s finds.

Played around the time of Flo and Nilsen. Anyone remember him?
