My brother-in law is a Derby fan and he has never had a good thing to say about him and from watching them with him from time to time my personal opinion is that Clough is not what we need at the moment.I understand people saying that he would fit the mould of playing attractive football, bringing the youngsters through but I for one don't care for this.We have just witness David Wier so called attractive football and I want goals and wins.

Lots of people have a bad opinion of Pulis, like our Mr Warnock but he gets results however they come.If goals come from getting the ball in the box, having big lads and getting stuck in I for one wouldn't complain.I would love my team SHEFFIELD UNITED getting stuck in to teams, that's what I used to witness when my dad started taking me as a kid.We need results,we needs promotion and I believe Pulis is our best option wether he can do this in this season maybe unlikely but for next for sure.

The Prince and other Blades can have there pretty football once we get into the Premiership and then again, look at Stoke now are they really playing pretty attractive football now wi out him and are they doing any better?I don't think so personally.

If it wasn't for him they wouldn't be anywhere near the Premiership.Pulis please.

Oh dear...oh dear. It won't go away will it?

Totally agree. One step at a time, leave the pretty football for when we are in the premier league. It's about getting there first and to do that we need wins.

Neither Clough or Pulis are going to drop to a club that is at the bottom of division 3, this is fantasy. The best we can hope for is Cox from Mansfield, Morgan or Wilder. Would Robinson come from MK ? It would be a step down in terms of team quality, but he has been there a while and may be ready for a fresh challenge. Don't really want any of them, but we have to face facts about how poor we are.

You are adopting the ludicrous logic of the We ❤️ Hoof Brigade. The poorer your football, the more likely you are to win.

Countless teams, including Wigan, Swansea, Southampton, Norwich and Bournemouth, have demonstrated that it is perfectly possible to get out of this league by playing proper football. No surprise there. It's the way all the better teams play and the better teams win the leagues. I know this will short circuit a lot of Bladey Bladey brains but no great loss there.

Look at the pigs for an example of a team built the wrong way.

Good Shout Pinchy. The only thing I would say is they all have half decent players and had good managers. With the calibre going round that we may be able to get, could we get one?I would take Robinson, but he has snubbed us once already supposedly.Cox done well, big risk tho and can we afford one at the moment.

The irony of all this is when a top side, which normally plays 'good' passing football on the floor, goes a goal down with just a few minutes to play they often start to play it long in a desperate attempt to grab a goal. If that's the way to score goals, why don't they do it in the first place?

For fucks sake NO! Stop suggesting Pulis his style is akin to pub tactics! He struck on a good group of players at Stoke who were absolutely the perfect blend for that style and he supplemented that with the signing of some very expensive players.

Thankfully and to my utter relief he would not want the job and has a high enough stock to probably command a job in the next division up. Proper football please, any kind of proper football.....one where we would utilise our midfield and not give them neck ache for 90 minutes!

....because it involves overloading the front line, meaning that over the course of a game they'd get ragged on the break. And the ability to keep possession brings other rewards.

It's no coincidence that Stoke's rise coincided with the boom in internet gambling. (for those who don't know, the chairman runs Bet365)

So credit to Pulis, but he was respectably well funded. His brutal footballing style isn't a silver bullet.

Because they become desperate. How often do they actually score? Top of the table Arsenal don't do it, by the way. They keep playing football.

If you have 90 minutes to bake a cake you'll make a far better one than if you have five minutes. If, however, you are only allowed five minutes you will cut out the frills and stick to the most basic of ingredients. You will also turn up your oven and use fewer utensils. You will end up, though, with a pretty poor quality cake and you won't win the bake-off.

Football - there's a clue in the name of the game.

At a time when it's really important we stick to the principles we are trying to adopt by appointing someone who can deploy them more effectively..........the suggestion of the likes of Pulis and Warnock give me a migraine.

Hoof it / pass it / hoof it / pass it.

When did we get reduced to such a shit, binary view of the game?

6% Davey has just demonstrated what such a rigid approach brings you, and still some are fixated with it. I'm still scarred by Blackwell's non football too. Can we stop this rubbish, please?

UTB

I'm not suggesting there are two ways at all, I agree with you alco there are many ways.....Pulis' way however isn't the one we need!

Brighton and Donny Rovers would be a couple of recent examples of the countless.

I have a mate who works on the sports pages for a national newspaper. He texted me on Friday to tell me Weir had been sacked, about 10 minutes before it popped up on the web and the radio. In the same text he told me Clough had definitely already been sounded out, and that Pulis was interested in the job.

My money's on some mad left-field shit inspired by our new co-owner. Sven alert ! Di Canio alert ! Diego Maradona, come on home at last.

How about the 49ers coach?

He has talked bollocks before (entertaining bollocks, mind you--you should hear his story about Rio Ferdinand) but it chimes with the rumour mill.

49ers coach might be good. They chuck it REALLY long in the NFL, don't they. Gerrim in, with Pulis as assistant and Blackwell (or better still, Micky Adams) as Director of Football.

Isn't Clough, in a sense, as much of an unknown quantity as Weir ? He's done ok(ish) at Derby, and never had cash to spend. His most successful time has been in non-league. Do we, or McCabe and Prince whoever he is, know that Clough can (a) manage in the shite we call League 1, and (b) spend the cash astutely ?

A two or three year trip with Pulis might be exciting, but the football would be brutal.

None of those clubs got promotion from the third tier by playing football employed by Weir.

All of the clubs mentioned with the exeption of Swansea played a direct uptempo game.

The long ball is in the football archives Beck/Crazy Gang tactics will never work but they was very effective infective in their day.

I agree with your last sentiment. Just to clarify, you are not suggesting that any of the teams mentioned did not play a passing game as opposed to the euphemistic 'percentage football' [Hoof in disguise]?

Passing is the fundamental of football.

Movement, pace and finishing wins you games
