Would definitely need another defensively minded midfielder in if he does go.

Hamer and Blaster in the 2 would be great. Until one of them has to miss any football then who comes in? T Davies? Is he ever likely to be fit? Nah doubt it we’d need another body in

Always thought Anel could actually be decent in the CDM role.

He’s got the athleticism and ability on the ball to play in midfield.

He’s not dominant in the air as a centre back and sometimes lacks the discipline to go man to man.

When he played as the central CB in the Spurs cup game that was actually one of his most complete performances for United. If he did similar sat 10-15 yards further forwards with cover behind him he’d be laughing.

Shackleton would be next in line I imagine but yeah his injury record ain't great either.

It could actually end up making us more balanced funny enough.

Hamer dropping into Souza position.

Then Kent on left, O'Hare central & Rak-Sakyi on right
yes was thinking exactly the same with hamer alongside arblaster in the 2 wonder if wilder is copying artetas system at arsenal fwiw i think kent would be a very interesting signing hes tricky and got pace

Its one thing being "comfortable on the ball" in defence and another thing entirely replicating that in midfield. There's far less time, space and you're often receiving it facing your own goal. We all saw in the Euros how much Trent, who is genuinely excellent on the ball, struggled in that area.
I don't think Anel has anything like what it would take to play that position well.

I still think we'd need a defensive minded CM unless that's what Shackleton was brought in for.

Agree CM - he's also nowhere near strong nor aggressive enough to play a destroyer role.

Since Palhinha went to Munich for £47m, Vini is the midfielder who made the most tackles in the PL last season. Can HRH do something with that for next seasons PL strugglers?

Disagree I think he’d be fairly comfortable in that position. In the championship. He wouldn’t have the range of passing compared to an Oli Norwood but is more athletic and can drive the ball forward a lot more effectively. He’d just need to mop up and give the ball to Hamer / Blaster to be effective. It might not be his best position but he’d be capable.

Ideally Souza if he leaves is replaced like for like

Trent is also very comfortable in that position for Liverpool. He struggled for a struggling England team who were pedestrian at best and as a collective managed to make a squad full of world class / domestic silverware winners / top players look bang average. Domestically he’s ran games for Liverpool from midfield

I suspect a few players coming other way as make weights and Forest expecting to take our pants down. Don’t do it Blades unless we’re taking theirs down
I'd take that
Worral, bowler and cash
Transfermarkt says we paid €12.5m for Souza, so you'd basically have to value Ryan Kent at €4.5m in order to break even on that deal...
We didn't pay even half that

I think we should see how serious they are by asking them to add Livakovic (keeper Celtic are after) to the deal and we send Grbic in the other direction.

No room for Worrall now

Also you don’t think we paid £5m for Souza? 😂
depends if anel goes but i think wilder will still want him if its in the souza deal think it will happen and maybe bowler as well

I’ve reached that conclusion based on the evidence of his performance. If it continues my opinion will remain, if his form / attitude improves then so will my opinion.

Binary is having one or another opinion and never changing. As you can’t see into the future you can’t confirm what my future opinion will be.

There’s no backtracking, that’s when you try to convince people you never had an opinion you actually had. If my opinion improves I will say so, and that my opinion has changed likely due to his improved performances.

Currently and contextually, I can’t see it happening, but I’m happy to be proved wrong.

It’s like Brewster / Berge syndrome. any good they do or did is blinded by the persons narrow negative opinion.

I am objective, and believe in evidence based opinion.
Fair enough.

Each to their own but I try to never criticise a player because you usually end up wrong. You're never wrong if you criticise form or work ethic or a part of their performance but to say a player is shit just seems like Facebook hyperbole.

It does feel it's just a matter of time before Souza leaves. If he does then maybe that's when we go for Armstrong. I think Souza would do well this season but at the same time he's replaceable. We know we probably need to sell one more player given we'll have reinvestment a fair bit of the other transfers back into the squad with the Burrows deal, the loan fees and can't imagine Moore and O'Hare are on championship wages neither but more like lower end PL wages.

dont see armstrong as a souza replacement although still wouldnt mind him i think if we get campbell and ray-sakyi we can drop hamer a bit deeper alongside arblaster and hopefully tom davies will be back quicker than expected to compete for the souza role know a lot on here are sceptical about davies but i think he could have a big part to play this season if we can get him fit and keep him fit

Wonder if someone like Grimes or McLean would be more suitable for the position Souza plays.

Not sure how valid the links were earlier in the window but surely we'd be able to get at least one of them with a part of the potential Souza money.

Armstrong in my opinion would be better playing further forward, possibly as competition for that number 10 position.

I think CW would ideally like to keep Souza - he's praised his attitude recently, and says they've cleared the air.
It's been reported that we need to raise £20m this year to offset decreased income (aside from selling Archer back to Villa).
So far, through sales, we've brought in.....
£1.5m Jebbo, £10m Osula, £5m Bogle (initial payments, guessing)
And so far we've spent (or will have).....
£1.5m Moore, £3m Burrows, £3m Cooper, £3m loan fees, £2m signing on fees (again, guessing)
So that's £16.5m in, £12.5m out......leaving us approx. £4m in credit.
That's £16m short of what we need to bring in to cover the drop in income.
Basically, I reckon if the takeover doesn't go through by the end of the window we'll sell Vini to cover the shortfall.
If the takeover happens soon the new owners will cover it and we won't need to sell him.
