Hello. We started a podcast on The Pinch because – you know – there isn't enough audio to go around and the Dad Pod is the new Dad Bod.

I hope it’s okay to post each of the episodes here. There are some paywalled articles on The Pinch, but the podcast is forever free, you won’t catch us up-selling, and we only use the money to pay each contributor for their work.

We’re doing our podcast a little differently insofar as we have a couple of features. UNITED VOICES features fans telling their stories. Whilst the 4ORMLINE will break things up into chunks of four throughout the season – sometimes players and sometimes games. All the pods are pretty short bite-sized affairs.

Today, we just published our Season Preview in two parts: https://podfollow.com/the-pinch-podcast
  • Part One is myself, David Taylor and Riley Roberts finding reasons to be cheerful ahead of the season, previewing opening day and answering some quick-fire questions.
  • Part Two is a deep-dive with George Elek from Not The Top 20 podcast – and he’s much more positive on the Blades than many fans seem to be, so hopefully makes for cheery listening. We also discuss the Best of British transfer approach.

Hope you enjoy. Would be great to get some feedback for good or ill. UTB

I might give this a go as I like Elek and you seem to have managed to produce something that doesn’t last over 90 bloody minutes, unlike everyone else previewing the Season.

Let me know what you think. Elek pretty high on us, and gave what I think (biased I know), is a really good nuanced answer on whether Wilder is the best man for the job. Amazes me how the NTT20 lads can stay across 72 teams.

I got the impression from the NTT20 preview pod that Ally Maxwell is not as high on us. Elek is traditionally a big Wilder fan, of course.

Well, I think at the time of recording the 1-24s, we were pretty hard to predict. And their prediction was probably based on an assumption of more deals before 30 Aug.

Enjoyed the pods so far, Steve Mackan and I think you've managed to find a man in Riley with the most northern accent in the country :)

Good work.
Have you heard me and David? The only attribute on the casting call was "Northern contrast". For the record, I've lived in 12 different areas of Sheffield but somehow none left me with much of an accent.

any plans to stick these on Spotify?

Edit: Sorry, found the link on the original link! Didn't appear when I searched direct on the app.

Haha. Glad you found em. Should be available in most places, but we rely on some Substack algorithm to get them there, so I think sometimes they are late onto Spotify etc

Done a new pod. We talked about Rak-Sakyi. Then shenanigans happened. Then we edited the JRS discussions out of the pod. Then Wilder said "When Jes comes in". So now he's back in.

This is a 4ormline episode, where we discuss things in fours. The four this week are Gilchrist, Souttar, Campbell and... Rak-Sakyi. Plus a quickfire Fast Five section. Next week we have Koopa special.

I think we've reached podcast saturation point. Every cunt has one these days.

Good luck, mind.
In an ideal world for me all the pods would release something each day or work together and mix each other up so one week you’d have deadbat and Roy and the week after you’d have Johnny from shoreham view with Hal… obviously that’d just be ideal to me but I do get what your saying with too many.
I enjoy them all though I just think it’d be nice for one “fans” channel where they’re all in the same place on YouTube and the pods are daily.

We have today published a Michael Cooper special with a guest - a pal - who is a scout down in deepest, darkest Devon.

https://podfollow.com/the-pinch-podcast/view - short, sweet, 27 mins. We discuss Cooper's career and attributes: height (lack of), punching (a lot of) and shot-stopping... he should've started v QPR.
Thanks guys, really good these and much appreciated

Just caught up with these and I think they are fantastic contributions to our (already impressive) pod squad.

Excellent quality research, discussion and opinions 👍

Thank you, and hope you keep them coming.

I will listen thanks fellas. As an expat, the online content is life affirming and crucial for expats, but I do wonder if we're at saturation point.

My preferred media is video/YouTube content - I will also add that I subscribe to the (free) pinch email but would definitely pay for video/YouTube content if you move in that direction. Also a SUW subscriber as their content is the best. No offence to the ramble dude 😬

Thanks!

I mean, you're probably right insofar as Sheffield United have a lot of content creators whilst some clubs don't have 1x fan podcast at all. That said, different strokes and all. For us (well for me), I'm not interested in making or watching video content because, as a consumer, I find pods easier to integrate into day-to-day life: washing up, driving, having a bath. I've actually found that I prefer BladesPod for washing up and Tufty Club/Four Blades for baths. Make of that what you will.
