And it was on Sunday Soccer.

Woody 30 yard thunderbolt straight over Laurie 'Escape to Victory goalie' Sivell's head.

Keith Macklin: "Woodward ... he can hit them from here ... oh my word!"

Them days.

pommpey

And from Woody's left foot!

Cracking game all apart from the result and although Best's goal was a bit special I still reckon he wouldn't have got it if Hemsley had still been on the pitch. Went off injured after keeping Best pretty quiet, Reece to stand-in fullback and the rest is history.
Back in Manchester the following week at Maine Road and City were all over us. Big John Hope had a blinder and kept us in it until about the 60th minute I think and we all thought after they scored that the flood gates would open but within a couple of minutes Billy Deardon headed the equaliser from a breakaway. City hammered us all over again and did get the winner about 10 minutes from time I think.

It was 3 weeks later not a week later

I do not remember much about the match but remember 2 things. Eddie Colquhoun and Colin Bell warmly greeted each other before the game because they played together at Bury. The other thing was that I was fed up with the 4th successive league defeat! (3-2 losses at home to Stoke and away to Southampton being the other two)

Yes, went to that one too – abiding memory is getting my scarf nicked by some City yobs on bus going back to Piccadilly station. A great season that one – I started going in 1966 and 1971-72 is the only time it really felt as if we were up there on reasonably equal terms with the big boys.

Sorry Silent - I was going purely from memory which plays me up sometimes these days! Just shows how time flew in those days 'cos we were enjoying it so much.

United v Coventry FF cup quarter final replay, City had a really good side at that time and when the ball hit a divot and bounced over Kelly into the net early on I feared the worst but 2nd division United put on an inspired display as we weren't too bad a team ourselves in those days. Just when you thought nothing would go past Ogrizovic Holdsworth came up in the last minute with great volley to make it 1-1 then Kelly saved 3 city penalties to help us through, a great game which comes close to the United v Forest play off semi.

Darlington away was just joyous. And possibly remains my favourite game. In terms of "greatest" games..I doubt the play off semi v Forest will be beaten for me.. It had everything

Arsenal 1-1 Sheff Utd

FA Cup 2005 iirc. I didn't want to go to the game because I didn't want to see us get stuffed. Then my dad tells me he's got us tickets. In the arsenal end. I vividly remember Adrian Heath (on loan?) crossing for Dane to half-volley past Seaman. I also remember after the whistle, we had a cracking view of the blades fans cheering the reply of our goal on the big screens (back when Arsenal were the only team with the big screens). I wish I'd been there for the replay. .

That was in January 1996!

Southend 0 sheff utd 1 1984. Kevin arnott last minute winner ,we are on our way back ,my favourite match ever.

Just watched the cup game against man utd and i swear the Hodges goal looked so much better from my view. I normally went on the kop at that time, but for some reason i was stuck near a group of really annoying arrogant pisstaking Man Utd fans in the south stand. TV really doesn't do it justice. In real time the ball took about half an hour to leave his left foot and reach the goal. It was like a novel by Victor Hugo that goal.

That fa cup game against Coventry in 1998
Coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 @ Watford in our promotion season.
Hull at home in the promotion season.

One for me Blades v Everton FA cup They were top of league 1 I think we top of league two or second, they got a shit pen just before half time. We won 2 -1 when the second goal went in the kop erupted mybe wrong but Reece scored the winner,

A great game was united v orient 6-3. I think it was 83 or 84. But Leicester 1990 takes a lot to beat

Watching highlights of that match on YTV made me become a committed Blade. Alan Ball gave Everton the lead with a penalty after Johnny Morrissey latched on a poor back pass by Len Badger before Hodgy brought down the winger. After half time, Woody took a short throw in to Barlow who returned the ball to him, Woody then floated a left footed cross for Gil Reece to nod in our equaliser. Later on, TC played a lovely ball to Woody on the right wing, Woody flicked the ball past the hapless Sandy Brown and raced away to the byline before unleashing an inch perfect cross for Colin Addison to hurl through the air and head in the winner. All goals were scored at the Lane end

as some have already mentioned, the 3-1 win at The Sty was fantastic.

They were pushing for Europe and were saying how they would get revenge for the result at BDTBL. Their fans were as cocky as ever.

Pissing it down. I was in the North Stand on my own as I couldn't get a ticket for the Lepp and I was wondering how many more would be in there.

Soon found out 3 minutes into the game when it seemed like a third of the stand celebrated Dane's goal along with pockets of fans on their Kop and plenty in their South Stand.

Apart from a deflected goal and a Simon Tracey save from Jemson near the end, we had total control from the minute we got that goal. They couldn't live with us that night.

Flares and balloons were in abundance. Went to town after and got very drunk with a few mates....not a piggy in sight

Already talked about the two Manchester games in 1971 but my stand out that year was the Division 2 game against Cardiff which virtually guaranteed us promotion.
Going from memory again Silent so go easy on me but we were 2nd and they were third I think and they had been on a very good run with only about 3 games left to play. It was a night match with over 40000 there and Billy D got us off to a flier early on. They came back at us very well - they had Toshack and a lad called Brian Clarke up front - but we held them and then got a second around the half hour mark which steadied a few squeaky bums. They got one back just before half-time and back came the squeaks.
Don't know what was said at half time but we tore into 'em second half with first TC and then Gil Reece putting us well on top before Billy D got his 2nd and our 5th late on.

Brilliant night which gave us the springboard for our best ever Ist Division start later that year.

All correct except that John Toshack had left Cardiff for Liverpool in November 1970! Cardiff's team that night was Eadie, Carver, Bell, Sutton, Murray, Derrett (he was credited as their scorer but his shot hit Hockey's back and wrongfooted Hope), Gibson, Clark, Phillips, Warboys and King. Woodruff was the sub

Would have been mine but my memory doesnt do it enough justice ,I was 9 and on John street ,all us young uns got passed to the front. I was on the Lane end for the Watford game a few days later and can remember that much more ,especially 3 skinheads running on the pitch after the first goal and coppers chasing them across the cricket pitch. All 3 became very close friends in later life.
