Never rated him that highly, Jebbison always looked the better prospect for me but neither are proven after a considerable amount of time.
If its a decent fee then hopefully we can get someone in with a bit more pedigree.
Considerable amount of time yet the same age as Marsh pretty much and he's seen as a hot prospect!

Disappointed but somewhat understandable. Was really looking forward to seeing him develop further as I've watched him mature ever since we signed him and thought he was an excellent prospect. Could go on to be a world beater but at £10-15m that's not a gamble we can really afford to take on the back of a relegation.

Good move for him, he'll likely get some chances there in time.

Look at it this way to put the sale into perspective - what would you have thought if Utd had bought him for £10m rising to £15m?

It's a hell of a punt from Newcastle! He's not even nearly ready for the Prem so I wonder whether a loan to a Champ club may be considered?!?!

This will only be a good sale if every penny of the fee is immediately reinvested in the team and we have an instant replacement lined up. Unfortunately our track record in getting deals quickly over the line is abysmal. We face the prospect of starting the season with a half fit Brewster as our only striking option if Moore doesn't recover from the knock he's picked up.

Osula will be a miss because of his size and pace. Pace in the championship is at a premium and he would have caused a lot of trouble. It seems he's virtually out the door now. Of concern is the majority of transfer noise to date has not been about strikers. We have to hope the interest in the likes of Kaba and Cannon are well advanced otherwise we'll start the season with another hand tied behind our back after the points deduction.

Take the money, and build a squad. Osula could be anything. Ched Adams or Jordan Slew. No one knows. Worth a risk sell him.

The thing is, Osula has a top value for his career and he has a top value with us.

Even if the sky is the limit, he isn’t going to be getting Champions League exposure and winning trophies etc while with us, certainly in our current state.

He’s also got ‘potential breakout season’ as a tag on him and I’m not sure United can build a season on potential.

Until we become (if ever), a permanent fixture in the top flight, then we’ll always be faced with this decision; sacrifice someone with potential for someone who is ready made now.

i think wilders got 3 signings lined up with the osula cash think cooper and worrall are 2 and maybe another striker know fans frustration at selling osula but covering at least 2 vital positions with the cash just about justifies it
I think I am missing something here ! Why do we think Osula has or will be sold ?

Majority of the cash will go into the clubs black hole so I don't know where all this "build a squad" bollocks comes from. £10m is nowhere near enough. Clear as day the takeover is going nowhere and this is needed to just tread water for the next 12 months

" Newcastle in advanced talks with Sheffield United for sale of Will Osula for £10 mill fee plus £5 mill add ons" Sky Sports transfer news.

Reliable source. Unless you have a source that suggests otherwise?

Not a chance that even half of that money gets reinvested . We need at least 3 forward players ideally and we weren’t even looking for 1

Let's be honest it's only 10m because of the PL appearances, he's about league 1 quality at the moment with no signs he's going to improve significantly.

Unfortunately my main source is this forum, but it’s hard to glean fact from decent rumours from the rest !!

Seems like a short-sighted, stupid decision to me if this goes the way it seems to be going. Even more so in the context of losing Jebbison, McBurnie, Archer (glorified loan) and BBD (actual loan).
As it stands are we in a position to take long term decisions? If there's no takeover, we need a team building and at least some squad behind it. That has to be funded somehow.
Sometimes the short term decision is the only one available.

Why do people keep saying £15m?
It's £10m plus add ons.
The add ons could be Golden Boot winner or Premier League champions.
£10m buys you half a Brewster nowadays. We'll not get that to spend either. I honestly can't believe people think this is good business

No brainer if it funds a few new players
How many times do we say that though? Isn't that why we sold Bogle? We've spent £3m of that £8m and we are already having to sell again to afford the next target.

Or it buys you a kid who got sent back by Derby when they were in league one
