Why does anyone need to label anyone with a differing view as anything? All it's for is fuelling your ego and making yourself feel superior because you were "right" and they were "wrong," unless of course it's vice versa where the name calling posters go quiet.

Why not just openly debate things like rational, mature, intelligent grown ups?
My God mate you will be asking for the moon next :)

crooked bladesman last month:

“Yes, that's why I said it. 4 players max all for free. There is no relationship between what we need and what we are likey to get.“

He’s just started a thread on the main board criticizing O’Hare’s accent. He no “likey” it. 😅

The transfer window has been open for seven weeks now. So far we've only brought in five players. We've also sold two players during this period, so we've had a net gain of three players in seven weeks in what has been billed as our most important transfer window and rebuild in years. The season starts in a week. This is not going well.

Looks like the rebuild will span several windows

Wives? They’d be lucky to have any female interaction beyond their subscription to Babestation.
You don’t have to subscribe.

So my mate tells me…..

Weird how so many have made the assumption that we're able to rebuild our squad essentially overnight, as if we've borrowed Todd Boehly's credit card or something.

Yes, we've lost a lot of players.

No, we don't need replacements for every single one of them (e.g. Benie Traore).

There are certainly key areas where we need senior level quality to come in (GK, RB, CB). However, many are acting like we don't even have a starting 11 it seems like.

Outside of the 3 positions above, we've got enough in the squad currently to be competitive. It's not as if we've got 20 Dean Hammonds under contract or anything.

We could easily start vs Preston with: Davies, Seriki, Anel, JLT, McCallum, Souza, Blaster, Brooks, Hamer, O'Hare, Moore (Grbic, Trusty, Curtis, Peck, Burrows, Osula, Brewster (I forget if it's 7 or 9 subs in the Championship now, so maybe 2 more as well)). Certainly it wouldn't be the dream squad we probably all hoped for a month or 2 ago, but it would (for the most part) be better than a lot of the squads we'll be going up against.

There's still a month of the transfer window to go. Not having players in yet, while not desirable, is not terminal. We'll get more bodies in before September and be fine.

A true rebuild doesn't happen overnight. We've changed tactic, and many personnel we had are not suited to playing this way. Better that we build around the versatile heads that we still have who are able to adapt away from the shitty back 3, and gradually bring in players who are also comfortable with this style of play. We might not be the finished article at the end of this window, but we will be a lot better off than we were at the end of last season.

This thread is ageing well

Less than 2 weeks till the season starts and we've replaced 16 players with 5 players.
16 players - how many of which didn't play more than a handful of games last season.

We will also see more games for the younger players coming in AND a championship squad will be smaller than a premiership squad.

I also think we need to sign more quality but throwing numbers around like that is just trying to instigate animosity.

If you don't think it's a ridiculous situation we're in just under a week before our first game, fair enough

I certainly do. And I really don't need to go into the facts of it.

We need wingers since we're playing with them.

You're putting the world on the shoulders of the likes of Blaster (fair enough) but also Brooks who faded after an initial good start last season, Seriki who's never pulled up trees in his loan spells, and a frankly horrible centre back pairing in a 2.

Indeed we do.

But this waiting until the end of the transfer window is a joke and resulted in us effectively throwing the first 3/4 games of the season last season.

It’s a horrible way to run a football club.

But a necessary evil, unless you have huge financial resources to blow everyone out the water very early on and have everyone in for pre-season.

Why not sign some decent free agents then? You know, the ones where you can pick them up for no transfer fee?

It’s not a good window so far……we can only hope that we have a few good loans to fill in the gaps. As we saw many times last season, we lack leaders all over the pitch. That was the big strength of the Wilder team from 2016 to 2019. Now I am still worried that if we concede early …heads will go down & we concede 2/3 more quickly. A keeper & central defender is a priority.

Like O’Hare?
As I said, if you are happy to blow everyone out the water and pay over the top you can do it.
Clearly we can only do it for one top target.

This thread is unbelievable. Wilder said at the end of last season paraphrasing "we need a whole host of new players etc " so far we have signed 5 and let loads go. Seriously no one can think this is a great window?
Forgive me, but has anyone actually said this has been a great window?

Financially, we're stuck between a rock and a hard place. No immediate funds to make signings, and no imminent departures to inflate any potential transfer budget. Yes there is paper talk, but nothing concrete to suggest that we're about to lose someone.

You've mentioned about us potentially signing free agents. Which, while on paper solves the issue, there are still fees involved in signing free agents that we likely cannot accommodate. Signing on fees, agent fees, etc. O'Hare required a significant signing bonus as far as I'm aware - highly likely that anyone who might improve us would want something similar, and again, we have no funds to immediately get a signing over the line. If we did, we'd have signed Cooper days (if not weeks) ago.

I don't understand this comment. It's pretty standard for any club that doesn't have immediate funds on hand to make every signing they want, especially outside the PL, to keep chasing deals to the end of the window. We did the same under Slav and got MGW in 3 years ago. It's hardly unheard of.

Yes, O'Hare was a fantastic signing.
He's just that though, one signing.

We need a plethora of that calibre of signing, and we are a week away from the first game of the season.

I don’t disagree. But I just don’t think the expectations could ever have been met with our budget.
For example if we had a few more million I’m sure we could have had the keeper who went to Stoke, but you’d have to outbid one of the best funded teams in the league. I’d also assume we’re more interested in other options for GK but you get the point.

????

It's not a sustainable or good way to run a club. Waiting to make all your key signings after throwing the first few games is fucking crazy.
The one season we didn't do it we went up.

I don’t think anyone is disagreeing with you. They’re just living in the real world where we have significant funding restraints.
