At least we've released two big earners in Mcburnie & Egan, so frees up a bit more money, though I still think OM might be back as no one in for him yet,
That's a crap basis for a relationship with OM - we don't want him enough to offer him decent money and he's only here coz he can't get another club - treatment table beckons - better he leaves really

How much have we offered him?

I agree, I've always said he's a tryer, but he's not a good footballer, not good enough for top level

Free up money, to stay in his pocket because it won’t be spent on signings

Not enough to have him sign yet ?
But there’s an assumption he’s asking for a reasonable amount within our budget. Who’s to say that he’s not asking for too much?

Nobody else has snapped him up either.

I have never been a McBurnie lover and at the price we paid we should have got a better end product however he was coming on the back of a decent goalscoring spell in the Championship, he was in or abouts the Scotland Squad (about our level for internationals) and a big presence up front. The 2 attributes we will miss if we don’t resign are ironically something that he isn’t signed for which is being a decent defender at corners and also he was a decent bet to score with a penalty. Not that we got many but if you can convert them with a high % rate across the season it could easily give you an additional 10 points.

I always have to work on the basis that the club no better than I do but keeping Grbic and Shackleton is a real head scratcher.

Was really impressed by Jairo and sorry to see him go.
Can't release players under contract without paying them off. No point paying them off if there's a chance they'll either play or someone else will take them on.

The real head scratcher was offering the perennially-injury Jamie Shackleton a three year deal, two years of which overlapped with the three year contract offered to the perennially injured Tom Davies.

Wasn’t there an article a few weeks ago saying he was staying… absolutely gutted, we only won while he was on the pitch… ffs.. the state of the retained list.. gobsmacked.

Gobsmacked that we let Jairo go. Genuinely thought he was our best player. Looked a level above and made everyone around him look better...

It doesn't feel right on a footballing level... surely Wilder wouldn't prioritise "culture carrier" nonsense to this extent?

Hes after phillips again. Which is a downgrade on jairo
To get Phillips we would need to still reduce the wage bill along with compensating the loss of wages and agent fees for Phillips. Say if Man City allow us to have him for £780,000 for the season we will need to afford to cover that cost whilst reducing our wage bill. If we sell Hamer who is on about £1.5mill a year (£30k a week) that will cover the cost of Phillips, we aren’t going to be getting much more than £5-6mill for Hamer and that paid in instalments. If we play it conservative as he is in last year of contract, he is 28 so a 3 year deal is likely. We could potentially raise £2mill a year income however due to the Squad Ratio Rules we will probably have to sell someone else too as it’s tight. Hamer’s departure will likely balance the books on SRR then after that it’s working either by cash injection from the owners or players sales as to how much we can afford in wages.

The problem with Jairo was the obsession of signing Rothwell as with them both being on the same money we can only afford one of them. As a club we need to be not only looking at this year but next summer as well as Wilders contract is up along with Bamford and Rothwell along with Seriki and Brooks and a few others. If we want to keep those players agent fees for signing on and potential increase in wages especially in the young ones have to be taken into account

I tend to work on the opposite basis.

Whilst there are exceptions, on average most footballers are a bit thick.

It’s from this same pool of footballers that most of the managerial, coaching and scouting candidates evolve.

They wouldn’t last 5 minutes where due diligence and scrutiny are expected rather than seen as affront or undermining them.

This is not directed at any individual, but how does someone like Grbic get through the door? A simple view from by Roygbiv would tell you the guy wasn’t up to it, and you’d have kept your 2m quid. Likewise, whilst it grabbed headlines, a number of signings like Tom Davies, Phillips, Shackleton shouldn’t have been allowed anywhere near the club within their historic injury records. Simply wouldn’t pass any sort of risk stress testing of any rationale business.

Some player are unlucky or don’t click, but generally speaking if you end up with crap players then you simply haven’t done enough homework.

Players who I’d be happy to see start first game next season:

Cooper
Femi
Jaf
???
McCallum
Brooks
Peck
???
Hamer
COH
Bamford

So for me we are looking for two automatic starters : X1 at CB X1 at MD - even with a limited budget we should be able to make good signings.

Squad Fillers who we are probably not looking to move on:

Davies GK
Burrows LB
One ST
Blaster MD
Cannon ST
Rothwell MD

Squad fillers who we would probably like/should look to move on:

Mcguiness CB
Chong RW
Campbell ST
Shackleton ???
Norrington-Davies LB

So we have 11 squad fillers and 9 starters = 20

Assuming no ins or outs that means we need 6 signings by my reckoning , 2 automatic started and 4 squad fillers.

2 automatic starters x 1 at CB and X1 in MD

4 squad fillers x1 CB, x1 LW, X1 RB, X1 CAM

So as a base start point this is what we need. Obviously sales change this bit the only sales I can realistically see are:

Hamer & Peck for between £6-£8mil and £8-£12 mil respectively meaning a cash injection of between £14-£20mil. Which I don’t think changes our budget drastically given the short fall in incomings we will need to make up.

Based on that I think we are looking at 2 permanent signings and 4 loans this summer.
