I remember it being used at school when I was a lad in the sixties. I was at Gleadless County school.

So was I, a while afore ye, 47-53.
J.B. Spire headmaster, Mr's Iosson, Bradley -later of Radio Sheffield fame (music), Pashley, who taught Bradley to play the violin and always played piano when any shows were produced for parents etc.

Great contributions XH536. Living just off Ridgeway Road Hollinsend Park was my local playground. Played many a game of cricket there and Tennis , as well. Got married in the nearby Church. All tozzin!.

Certainly cannot describe any of Blades' performances of late, being Tozzing.

I lived on the Foxhill Estate in the 60s snd my mate lived up Woodseats at that time.

We both remember the word tozzing

Trevor Hockey was the epitome of of a player who , without being blessed with all the natural abilities of some of his contemporaries , was nevertheless capable of having a huge positive impact on the overall performance of the team and the final result .

Comparisons to his contribution to our success after he signed for us would be those of Bremner to the Leeds team and Nobby Styles to Man U and England .

All of them were relatively small but made up for their lack of physical presence by a combination of sheer guts , determination and a willingness to win at all costs which provided a huge impetus to the players around them.

What I would give for a player with his attributes to be in our starting line up next season.

It was the next league game after Bolton played on January 16th but we played a friendly match at Saltergate on the 23rd which was Hodgy's last game Tom Fenoughty scored in the 1st minute for Chesterfield. Oxford game was on the 30th

I was at the Oxford game as well Trevor Hockey fitted into our style of play. This was a time when Football was a simple game. John Harris told Trevor Hockey to win the ball and give it to Tony Currie. It was probably not easy. But the dint half make it look easy.I don't care what anybody says that great team from 1970-1972 was the best team I have ever seen I had the privilege of watching from the Kop.

He was a vital part of the team in my early days of going to the lane, often doing the dirty work for the more skillful players, what would we give for someone like him today, would make mincemeat of players like Souza

Bailey still around, now 104 years old.

I was told that Blakeman and Cockroft (ex Wendy who missed a vital penalty for us) were poor signings. We got relegation at the end of the season.

That’s just how I remember him, hard working and you got 100% commitment every game. Great character. Did well for us, totally different attitude to many we’ve seen recently

Closest I've seen in recent years is Stuart McCall. Not so much the grafting and hard tackling but the influence on the game and the space he made for the likes of Michael Brown. Very clever player, didn't waste energy but his reading of the game and ability to make it all look so easy was a joy to watch.

The photo above is not a Sheffield United match. It was Chelsea v Sunderland. The Sunderland player is Arthur Hudgell. I have spoken to John Garrett about this some years ago as it isn't Ernest Jackson. A Sunderland historian agreed with me.
