Weren't Baldock and Stevens League One fullbacks?

Might not have cost us loads, and not got any for selling them, but can guarantee we got a hell of a lot out of them
Exactly my point. If you have a limited budget then you don't spend big chunks on a full back when you don't need to.

I was definitely in this camp too.

Don't know what this football manager thing is but I can distinctly remember saying that you don't win leagues by paying a million for a right back.
Burrows = Brayford + inflation.

If we think we can afford Burrows then we'd better have some bloody good signings lined up for elsewhere in the team.

I agree with the general principle but full backs don't win you leagues.
I mean - Gvardiol at City played LB since around Jan and was one of the big reasons they won the league.

Also - if he can make 21 goal contributions in L1 with that Peterborough squad, there's a high chance he could match that and those contributions definitely help you win leagues

No but they also had nowhere near the stats Burrows has

Sometimes you have to spend for quality
If you dont cough up for quality you end up forking out millions for crap just like we did last year on players who would never in normal times see their names on the team sheet , Players who draw their money every week who just won't play for the first team . Having said that they might have to play the way we are going about our recruitment .Can see us doing exactly what we did last year ,giving others a 3 game start plus minus 2 points .

I think there's at least seven or eight other players in the City team that may think they played a bigger part.

I'm not saying don't sign Burrows, I'm saying don't spend that kind of money on a full back unless you have the resources to back it up all over the park.

For the record I'm also NOT saying that we don't have the budget because like everyone else on here I have absolutely no idea where or finances currently stand, the state of the proposed takeover, or what our budget for next season will look like.

If we do sign this lad I'd hope it's a sign of better things to come but I've followed United for far too many decades to expect anything looking like sensible planning to eminate from our boardroom.

Anyone who thinks 5m is overpriced still thinks it’s 2005. Best player in league one last season, 22, English and 14 assists from LB- a problem position of ours for the last few seasons.
👏👏👏

2005s a compliment to them.

Most hear a plane flying above and run for the air raid shelter

The lad had 14 assists last season- I think you’ll agree that our service to the strikers from wide by way of crosses has been abysmal for quite some time now. Wether we will have someone in the middle to convert said crosses remains to be seen.

same wednesday mugs that thought marvyn johnson was the next roberto carlos bless em they are a strange deluded lot 🤣🤣🤣

Under the current owner there is no chance we are spending 5 million on a single player. None. I highly doubt we will spend that much in total on transfer fees.

I get where people are coming from when they say “5 million isn’t that much to spend on a player who could be worth 20 million in a few years.” But very few Championship clubs can spend that much on a player. Even with parachute payments, you’re struggling to break even without investment from the owner. With owner investment, you’re struggling to comply with FFP regulations.

I think someone mentioned the possibility of new owners
I'll see if I can find the thread and post a link

we wont be spending anywhere near 5m for burrows initially that total will come through add ons and rocket has already suggested it will be nearer 3m anyway add to that that all transfers are paid in 3 installments and that would mean an initial outlay of only 1m could be a clever signing this one

And we have the potential of DCL money coming in...

Stevens got promoted from league 2 in 2017 with Portsmouth and we signed him that same summer.

Heard we’ve got em down to £1.5m and 3 camels

Strangely (given his statistics) the Peterborough fans don't seem too worried about him leaving. They say he isn't a good LB and not quick enough to be a winger.

Not sure why everyone is arguing over an imaginary fee?

What is abundantly clear is since Stevens dramatic drop off in form we have been crying out for a good left wing back. This lad isn't been signed/chased as a left back hes 'coming' as a left wing back and we can't really hope for any better in out current situation.

We will play with 3 at the back, hopefully Worrall being one of them and Bogle and Burrows as wingbacks. Depending on who the other 2 centre backs are we could have the best 'back 5' in the Championship
