CONFIRMED Souza off!?

The last two windows just look more and more ridiculous. Hopefully we can rewind a few. If we can get any money for Souza I’d be surprised / happy but hopefully his reputation is enough for someone to take a punt on him.

We should get decent money and make a profit on Anel. He was truly outstanding last year and would have been in the radar of every top division club in Europe. Despite being awful this year, someone will make a good offer for him - just hope it’s early in the window.

Shame that neither of these players wanted to be here and battle his year. Especially Anel. Perhaps Wilder got it right the first time around by filling the team with British lads who were willing to run through brick walls to get a result.
Ahhh the old run through brick walls qualification, I do wonder why Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal infact any other Premiership club don't use this requirement when looking for players.

I'd say all three of those sides are full of players who work very hard.

Those teams are full of players who are incredibly focused, motivated and take personal responsibility, in addition to having fantastic skill and technique.

To state the obvious, we can’t afford both. On our budget something has to give. I’d rather watch a team full of Bashams than a team full of Anels and Souzas. Or at least put commitment as a non-negotiable and then look for other skillsets after that. Think us 18/19 or Ipswich this year.

Thinking about it, I’d probably rather watch a team full of Montgomerys to a team full of souzas TBF!

I'm sure they are, but I very much doubt that when they were being looked at before signing them one of the questions asked was will they run through brick walls.

I'm sure work rate is a huge thing all three managers require. People turn up their nose at it but it's a basic fundamental

See that's part of the problem I would rather watch a team full of Montgomery's.
I wouldn't I want too see United established in the Premiership.
Football especially in the Premiership has moved on, even the bottom half of the Division like Wolves, Fulham, Forrest, and Bournemouth all move the ball about quicker and have more athletic players with more skill.
We are never going to survive in the Premiership on running through brick walls and passion alone.
It would be like treating every game as a cup match yes you might get one result out of 10 but you are still getting relegated.

Don’t get me wrong. I agree with you and would love to be in Fulham or Wolves’ position. But we all know without serious investment it’s now impossible. Even Brentford, who have been very smart, have invested millions in the off field infrastructure.

Ideally we will find someone to give us that investment. But if we don’t, I don’t think taking punts on the likes of Souza and Gribic is the way forward. We need to cut our cloth accordingly now and I think the way to do that is to focus on a core of committed players who want to be here from our youth team and the lower leagues. Our scouting isn’t up to picking up gems from other leagues, as we’ve found out to our cost this year.

We can still play attacking, front foot football and look for players with the requisite skills. And our wage budget over the next 2 years gives us the chance to pick up some quality. I just think that togetherness, culture and commitment are the first building blocks we need to get right. If we don’t have that things can spiral down every quickly.

You cant read too much into views from other fans about players as sometimes it just doesn't work out at certain clubs. That said I was shocked how bad the reviews were for Souza but the lukewarm reactions to Traore, Slimane and Larouci raised alarm bells too. Usually when you buy players from much weaker leagues/teams they're raving about them. As it turned out, Slimane had lost his place in the Brondby size, Troyes fans were surprised Larouci had got a move to The Premier League and Hacken fans were saying Traore was replaceable.

We have to ask players to have to play above themselves, run themselves into the ground, take responsibility etc because we don’t have the funds to buy players with the mix of ability and physical attributes to do this naturally.

When you’ve got players like Souza or Anel with some technical ability and pace, strength etc but absolutely zero desire the end result is this season.

Even worse when you see negative vibes from two different clubs which I believe happened with Souza and Grbic.

They do. Any player who isn’t willing to work hard at any of those clubs will soon find himself shown the door.

They might not use the exact term “run through brick walls” but that doesn’t mean they aren’t interested in the work rate of a potential signing.

Because they can afford to buy players with other atributes

I don't know about other fans but on here I don't think it would be an accurate assessment..
I give you
Coady
Basham
Berge
All thought of as shit when they first arrived.
And the other way any of our Academy lads are Brilliant and should be in the senior squad..
Coutts the shining recent example of this, it took him a couple of years to go from scapegoat to GOAT

I said the view from.

I’m not suggesting our fans.

Good God, no! 😉

I totally agree and as it happens Bash was way more talented than either of them as well as having a better attitude and being consistently the fittest player in the squad.

If fans of other clubs believed some of our fans, then they'd think that McBurnie is a consistent goal scorer and a reliable player and Arblaster is the second coming of Gerrard.

Totally agree re recouping, not sure we will get 15m plus though. On paper he looks the part, physique, tackling stats, nationality and CV (La Liga and PL regular). Let's hope the only film they watch is of the Luton game !
