I've been thinking how that crock of shite could even start to make amends for yesterday's display.
How about, for the play-offs, each first team player who earns over £5k a week is made to draw 10 names out of the hat out of a set of fans who have over a certain level of loyalty points... say at least the amount of points that would cover a season ticket a year since the system started.
For that particular match, that player sponsors those 10 fans and it is down to that player to ensure his fans have a good time... different sets of fans are drawn out for the home leg, away leg and if, by some small miracle, Wembley.
So... the player stumps up the readies to buy his fans match tickets. He loads £50 on a Wetherspoons card or a Copthorne card or whatever for each of his fans to go and get some food and ale before the match. If they have to travel a long way, he pays their petrol money or if they're close, bus fare... but he's made to ring/email and check that all his fans can get to the game safely and what their requirements are.
Most importantly of all, after the game, he is made to face his fans for them to say thank you for his sponsorship and for them to tell him a bit about their day.
Not only will the players start to understand just how much bloody money we mere mortals have to spunk on them but it might make them start taking their responsibilities towards the fans just that bit more seriously and understand how much it means for us to watch them if they are forced into a face-to-face after the game.
If they get to Wembley, it'd be an expensive do for them. But it is for us too, and more importantly, it matters to us.
