Been told our future lies with the kids at the Lane. McCabe will remind us shortly that we have a tremendous bunch of young talented players and that our future is rosy; despite us selling the best.

So how good are they? Don't get to see the Academy play; but, surely if they were any good, they'd be playing now? You can bet one-thing, good or not, they will be playing next-season. No way will most of the current bunch of seniors players be here next-season; instead, the kids will be given a chance. And it will probably take a few seasons for them to 'bed-in', assuming they are not sold.

Doesn't sound too rosy to me?

Jordan Robertson scored again in his trial for the U21 - maybe he is "the future" spooky init?

At this rate the future is more like the biggest club ever to fall out of the league. It is dire - big debts, no vision, no passion. Next season expect fans to desert us in droves.

Can't blame them, watching crap you might as well get paid for it and work at a sewage farm!

The sh!t in the sewage farm moves much quicker than our sh!t players!

The likes of Kennedy, Barry, Whitehouse, Chappell, Tønne and Harriott have had disappointing seasons and don't look like they're making their way into the team. Teams will also be looking at Long and Maguire this summer.

If we fail to achieve promotion, we will be a team of youngsters, Long and Maguire will be long gone.

I thought the only chance of keeping Long and Maguire for next season was to secure promotion. All a bit worrying after tonight's result.

Long and Maguire will both be sold to fund the next squad development and the mighty assault on the division three title.

Unfortunately we won't get much for a couple of hundred grand

Not if they have watched them regularly this season they won't. Both have yet to prove they are capable of anything better than League 1.

Personally think that is slightly harsh on the both of them.

Personally think that i slightly hash on the both of them.

Long is a good shot stopper. But he doesn't command his area, his kicking is woeful and he has personally been at fault for several goals this season.

Maguire shows touches of real class - but he is painfully slow and when he makes a mistake he doesn't have the pace to recover - as we saw tonight.

Both are young and will hopefully improve.

Well what else can you do when Crystal Palace knock on the door ;)

I am not so sure that we are in the ballpark of selling to the likes of Crystal Palace anymore Metal.
It'll be the likes of Bournemouth, Yeovil or Donny that come calling and we shall not resist.

I really couldn't give two shits about us selling Maguire, as he is at fault for a lot of goals this season, Long is a lot more inexperienced than Maguire when looking at games played and he's kept us alive in games more than Maguire has ever done.

That was something I only just noticed last night. I know it sounds strange but he kicks the ball too high in the air which makes it more difficult for the people on the receiving end to do anything with it when it drops.

Maguire hasn't done enough this season, Long has in my opinion... How many goals have each been at fault for? Most goals have been due to the poor defending, Long has kept us in games e.g Walsall at home, Preston away etc. Maguire really is only League 1 standard at best.

At our level, most goals will be due to defensive mistakes. Our key problem is that we don't create enough pressure at the other end to make the opposition make mistakes and when we actually do then we don't punish them. We are not conceding that many goals so we should be winning games by scoring at least two per match - problem solved. We just don't have enough quality to create and certainly nothing to finish.

How much of that is down to them feeling that no matter what they do in training or in U21 matches they won't get into the first team? It must be galling to be Harriott or Whitehouse, knowing that Michael Doyle will hack and lose possession through another game yet keep his place. Kennedy is, to all accounts, highly rated throughout the game yet as soon as Collins is out we bring in Higginbotham.

It's clear that the current first team manager and assistant have no faith in the youth players but for me, that lack of belief is wrong.

I don't think you can put Whitehouse (and maybe Kennedy) with the likes of Chappell, Tonne and Harriott. Those three have had more time around the first team to make an impact and never do.
