Can't help but think this will have a negative effect on us, Coventry now can not make the playoffs and now will not be as interested as they would have been, they play donny tomorrow and brentford in a few weeks. Donny must be laughing as I thought they'd Lose tomorrow Before the points deduction.

Or the pressure will be off them and play a blinder for the rest of the season...

just to say, having the read the BBC story I'm none the wiser as to who owns the club (Cov), therefore 'who' the club actually is? Football is a joke, swindlers make hay, scam on top of scam, and scum likewise, just creaming cash off we who are too honest to ever contemplate such complicated nonsense for the sake of an ill-gotten dollar...

The joys of renting your stadium ............................... I'm sure there is a lesson to be learned somewhere in the Coventry saga.

Coventry are irrelevant.

It's in our hands. We know what we have to do.
completely understand but results are results and if a team a week ago had a realistic chance of a playoff spot now don't they won't play with the same hunger.

Can anyone think of a reason why the points couldn't have been docked at the end of the season to ensure the remaining fixtures are played out legitimately. Whichever way you look at it, two teams in the promotion shake up have had one of their remaining fixtures made easier.

Given the inevitably of the deduction would it have made any difference???

Yes, if it wasn't announced until then ie Cov still had an interest in the play-offs.

This is not to howl at the moon about how SUFC have been done over again, but as in your favourite instance, a ripple effect has been created. Now, like last time, it's up to us to ensure someone else gets hit by the bow wave, but I detect a little wakening of TFG here.

Could work in exactly the opposite way too.

When Bradford Bullshit were threatened with extinction last year the players played out of their skins and their form went through the roof to use a couple of old cliches :-)

The players just might get angry and use it as a motivator.

It's within our hands to come second. If we don't come second, we've only got ourselves to blame.

Well how about for once we use the eminently achievable prospect of promotion as a motivator?

I would have expected Doncaster and Brentford to beat Coventry anyway, so i can't see how a depressed Coventry would make the blindest bit of difference to our promotion hopes.

But they wouldn't have an interest in the playoffs. because they and every one else would know that the deduction was coming.

This is why an automatic relegation from where you finish at the end of the season is the way to go. Coventry would have an incentive to get promoted still, and the integrity of the league isn't affected.

At least with WHU no one knew what the punishment would have been. With administration everyone knows it's at least 10 points.

Unmotivated Covvo did the business today. Shows what we all know. It increasingly looks like the Footballing Gods are shunning the more obvious routes available to shafting us. But it has always been thus. Build up the hope first...

There is one slight problem...

Lets say its United v Coventry in the play off final. Coventry know that if they win that game their "relegation" will be from the second tier they have just reached, to the third tier. If they lose, their relgation is from the third to the fourth tier, so fair enough, there's an incentiv for them.

However, there is absolutely no incentive for United as they will be promoted whatever happens. If Coventry win, they can't take up their second tier place and logic dictates that the play off final losers would take it. I suppose you could get round that by saying that if Coventry won, the 3rd bottom team in the second tier would be reprieved, but I could see United suing on that......

That's a fair point. But as long as The Rules are understood by everyone it shouldn't be a problem...

Its the way we fuck it up that matters not how we get there.
