Do you want to see the shimmy again?

If i remember correctly, Robson took all Middlesboro set pieces did he not?

For me it was over the day we signed Robson & Forte. We don't miss Blackman in the slightest.

Robson was great till he tired. Murphy grew into the game. Doyle & McD were both fantastic.

Only downfall today was McMahon who once again I thought was awful when on the ball

Mcmahon wanted the pen but Robson got hold of the ball and wouldnt let it go. McMahon was our weakest player again for me ,you just know hes the type of player who would say 'Do you know who I am '. He also took one of the worst free kicks Ive ever seen today. Kitson was magnificent ,Doyles shot against the post was class ,and Harrys finger looked painful.

It's not a dig at Blackman per se, more the style whilst he was here, but I always thought with so many big strikers in the side and the lack of pace, that we had no option but to be rigid.

It sounded like this has changed. Obviously I haven't seen us since Hartlepool at home (damn that 4th round game v reading), but I'm interested to know if bringing in the likes of Robson, murphy, forte, and poleon (plus Diego briefly) has given us more flexibility and movement. It also sounds like the football has improved.

KMac seems to have more options now and massively Kitson seems to have both form and fitness.

Lets hope we keep the squad injury, suspension and prison free.

Another good thing seems to be that because one or two lads like Robson lack a little in fitness it forces Danny into freshening things up a little.

Obviously these are opinions from afar listening to a few games so I could be way off the mark.

no shimmy .. hammered it into the top corner.. i'm impressed with robson. he talks all the time to the other players and was encouraging Long.. first thing he did in his first game was go and grab the ball to take the corner against Coventry and we scored .. captains armband awaits IMO

He used to take all the pens at Dundee United. I had every faith.

As much as I liked Blackman's confidence, I hate that step thing - any 'keeper that does their homework (and let's face it, what training does a goalie do all week? There must be time to research who is going to take the opposition penalties) will rumble him. At a higher level he'll surely get found out.

I always thought that, if the keeper doesn't move for the shimmy then the striker leaves himself with a single step shot with no backswing to hammer through the ball. Great for Kevin Phillips but not many that can place a pen like that.

Yet no keeper has bothered to research it!

And it's not as if it needs extensive research either, is it? All you need to do is watch the Football League Show!

I think the murphy one would have been given if it hadnt been so soon after the Robson one.

Was it the right decision to award the penalty?

It's really difficult to say. I was sat in the Westfield health corner, so had a reasonably close view and at the time felt it was a pen, but having seen it a few times since, I'm not sure. The defender got nothing on the ball and Robson went down as though he'd been clipped (but not theatrically).

I didn't think the 2nd one, even closer, was a pen. I think the defender got all of the ball, and that isn't on the highlights, so no chance to see it again yet.

I was sat up in the library too (making my debut in that part of the ground) and I immediately text my old man (who bottled the match) to say that we'd "won" a penalty. I felt it was soft, that there was probably an element of con to it. But they are given all the time, so I don't think that Colchester can feel particularly hard done by or anything.

I haven't seen it again since. That was just my view as it happened.

Just watched the highlights there on Blades Player (didn't expect them to be up already!) and it's even softer than I remember. I thought the Murphy shout later in the half was a stronger claim tbh, but we were never going to get that having already been awarded one.

I too tried the Westfield corner rather than the kop so had a good enough view even though I was next to the back row .............. needed oxygen after getting to my seat. Great view but I wont be going on there again.
I thought the ref after giving us a soft early penalty tried to even things out, for the rest of the half most 50/50 decisions went to Colchester.

There were loads of empty seats, surely you could have moved? Mind you, there were also loads of rugrats annoying the shit out of me, perhaps that's why you didn't move.

To be honest blackman wasn't the biggest striker considering most of his goals where from the spot.

Ah so now he has gone our 20 goals in his first season striker was never really that good?

If we get promoted it is in spite of selling our leading scorer not because of it.

The pen. Saw it last night and it looked nailed on. Kid slid in from behind and that's all you need to know.

Yep - though I'd concede we're probably better after the JTW than before it, until the loans expire that is. But let's make no mistake, we sold Blackman on the first offer then groveled around in the mud desperately trying to find replacements. This was no team re structuring - it was grabbing the first bit of cash on the table.

We move on - but for some of us any hope that McCabe has the clubs' best interests at heart died that day.

Got to pull you up here, it was at least the 2nd offer. We know that there was an offer from Palace accepted, we don't know if any were rejected.

Also, it was said before we sold Blackman that we were getting 2 players in regardless of whether Blackman went or not. We got 2 players after we sold Blackman.

You can argue whether these were the only targets, you can argue whether these were first choice, but I'd say from the type of players that going for a pacey, versatile forward in forte; an experience, proper footballer in Robson we got the right players.

Not forgetting the early signings of Higgo and Murphy we added experience at the back, pace and versatility in Murphy.

Finally we just added Poleon, he could turn out to be another Cofie, he could end up being a cracking loanee. We'll see.

The success of the JTW will be proven in the next couple of months, but so far the signs are good.

Did we replace Blackman? Potentially the player was already at the club, Murphy, but we've added strength in a number of areas and so far, without disrespect to Blackman, it sounds like we've not missed him. I repeat, So far. But as an added booster we've brought in Poleon and Diego has also made his cameo.

The loanees as I understand it are both here until the end of the season, unless recalled.

The question I have is not about Blackman, but whether we've replaced Miller
