Whilst words like "journeyman" and "mercenary" regularly get bandied about by Blades fans whenever we sign a player in the twilight of his career, I would say its pretty clear that we tend to play better with an older, more experienced striker who's played at a higher level up front. The likes of Shipperley and Allison both did good jobs for us. Last season, a lot of the good stuff Evans did was helped quite a lot by Cresswell and this season we have Kitson bagging a few goals and generally helping the team perform.

The problem with players like this is that they can usually only keep up their good performances for a season or so, I know we've had a couple of decent years out of Cressy, but look at him this season when he's been involved, or we might even get them a year too late, like with Beattie the second time around, so it's always a gamble.

Anyway, I'm wondering if we'll try the same tact next year and get an old target man that has played Premier League or equivalent football. Maybe this is why we had that Greek bloke on trial, in preparation for Kitson pissing off to America or his legs going.

Who do you think we should get in to be next season's Kitson?

I'll throw a name in the ring to get started. Ricardo Fuller. Been a decent striker all his career, now no doubt nearing the end of his career, but still doing a decent job for Charlton. He'll be 34 next so they might not want to keep him and he should be realistic.

I think Fuller is a good shout. Kitson didn't look 100% fit today but you can see teams are worried about him at this level. I am unsure whether he will have the same effect at championship level thou

If we get promoted you can have next season's Kit son.

I wouldn't even consider Fuller, he's never looked like a grafter or a warhorse type to me, which seems like the common theme of some of the past players mentioned.

Ironside seems to be the ready made replacement, just without the experience.

I don't think Danny will take the gamble on Ironside though, so its Hulse or Kevin Davies for me

Would these want to play in league 1? That's where we are at the moment and we all know our record in the PO finals

Well Kitson did... you don't know unless you ask.

Plus, right now we're only 4 points off top with a game in hand. We need to plan for both League one and Championship, until its time not to plan for one of those options

I cant decide if Kevin Davies would never play for Utd because we let him go, or would feel he had unfinished business. Personally I hope it's the latter.

If we need to plan for the championship, then we need to sack Wilson now then and KM should of got the right players in during the JTW to ensure we go up. As he didn't I doubt you can call this planning for the championship.

What are you on about?

The question to ask is, would Kitson come to the Lane had he not been a friend of one of the directors' son and asked by him to join us?

Well go ahead and ask him and let us all know what the response is

And Higgo just came just because Kitson was here as well?

No way. They came because
1 they want to play football
2 we are a big club in the lower league

Have you ever heard Kitson's interviews? He's here to play football. He's openly said that he wants promotion and if not then he'll probably go to Australia or USA.

It's nonsense that hes on;y here because he's a friend of a friend. He may have had other offers and his friend swayed his decision slightly but ultimately he wants to play football and win silverware.

Apparently he's also got like an OCD obsession where he wants to score against every team he plays against

I would hope that all of our strikers want to score against every team they play against!

No apparently you know how we tick off the grounds we've visited, he ticks off teams he's scored against. That's probably why he wanted to play against Cart & Horses this season

You've perfectly summed it up that it was one of the directors son's who asked him to come. If he wanted to win Silverware he would of gone to the US or Australia

Any takers on giving Ironside a full run after a gentle introduction and mentoring this season from Kitson?

Can pigs fly? Will Wilson change his habits?
