Some of our fans are clueless
I must admit I am clueless about Origi. I vaguely recall him scoring a goal for Liverpool years ago. Id imagine alot of people are doing the same as me and looking at stats that show a remarkably low amount of goals over his career, then thinking maybe he contributes alot more in assists. Then realising that is not the case and wondering how a player with such a low output can even be considered as our highest paid player ever (by some distance). I'm assuming there is something given the club's he has played for but if anything this already bad output would be worse as he won't have world class players around him.

Because it's currently a pathetically low bar to clear given typical PL wages

Don't disagree we currently have a low bar however for 87k a week would you not expect better than (if I recall correctly) 2 goals and 1 assist over 28 games. I'm not opposed to the club paying big wages on a big player on loan, it's why we would pay it for Origi is my question.

I wouldn't look at the numbers you say, as they're completely pointless compared to goals/90 and assists/90 - he played 90 minutes twice. Those numbers probably aren't great either in fairness. Don't think it would be particularly great value compared to other rentals I think you could get in the £5m/season bracket, but it's going to be fucking difficult to get anyone in substantially better than what we have right now for that

It's not an expensive gamble though is it? 100k a week is 5.2m a year and we get to give him back if he's shit.

Brewster was an expensive gamble and so will Archer be at 18m for a totally unproven premier league player.

In our situation you have got to be mad not to take a chance on him. As pointed out he's got all the attributes and never been the main man. If it doesn't work we are down 5m, if it does work we could have a top forward in our books.
Fair point

I don't think his numbers have been great at any point in his career. Although again maybe down to lack of game time? He's hardly young now though. Look like I said originally I don't know much about him, I just find it hard to believe we couldn't get better for that wage.

It'll be easier to "get on with it" if we have a decent striker
Absolutely, but all this not knowing and people moaning and names of players being banded around that's we've never heard of and are probably not interested in whatsoever is just getting very tedious.

I've always found the transfer window quite an exciting time but just want clarity this season on who we have so we can concentrate on the important stuff. I'm all for the argument of just closing the window before the season starts.

The lad Rowe (norwich) looked good yesterday
Yeah he’ll be the next one they sell for big money I’d imagine. Maybe one to keep tabs on if we do somehow manage to stay up.

He played with many of the world's best players he needs a team where he can be settled and be the focal point not just an option on the bench.

I think he would do well for us.

The next signing we make could well define our entire season. For me it could be the difference between finishing in the bottom 3 or in a slightly more elevated position. You do feel that we are going down a few rabbit holes at times as we are desperate for a CF signing.

It feels as though it’s going to be blowing what remains of our transfer budget on an unproven and inexperienced striker but one which could have significant re-sale value or going for a cheaper loan option on someone with a bit more experience (eg Origi) and trying to but Doyle outright instead. Either way it’s a huge gamble and is likely to determine where we play our football in 24/25.

So Origi has not had a pre season and not featured in any of their games so far.
Be ready in about 6 weeks then.!

I mean this is partially the thing. If we were able to get another player like a Hamer in on loan, then I think it'll result in our forwards getting more/better chances, and there is much less of a need to bring in a forward. Of course, if a forward who's got the ability to create chances himself becomes available for the right package then we should be looking at him, but Origi isn't that
He is. He’s created many of his goals out of nothing.
