He was great Vs Leicester. Cov fell to bits when he went off. Simms looked really bad.

Agreed, we should be all over this.
He's not coming to us is he. Why swap a championship club that seems to have some ambition for one that will be back there next season? He will want to go to a Premier league club and until we start acting like one I wouldn't blame any player for turning us down

Didn't realise he's only got a year left. Thought he'd signed a new deal. Surely someone has to take this opportunity to sign him

Hopefully we do, but I think there's a very good chance he'd reject us

He's one of the bunch of top championship sort of midfielders I'd have in mind along with Doyle, OBrien, Smallbone and Field. But I think he'd be most likely to leave if relegated - I think he'd catch too many eyes with goal contributions. But that could mean good profit if we could get him now for about 10m

We just need to pull the trigger on some signings, dilly Dalling costs us as gives time for forest or Burnley to be dicks and sign and bench them when would be starters for us!

He should be our number one target to replace Berge. Would much rather spend £12m on him than £10m on O'Brien.

I do rate O'Brien too as the Fleck replacement but wouldn't be wanting to pay much more than half of that amount and definitely don't want to be bailing them twats at Forest out with an inflated price.

His family are supposedly home sick though. Just sounds like same scenario as Ndiaye where he suddenly says he wants to go home to Feyenoord.

For those saying "O'Brien should only be £5m, he isn't that good" etc.

His reputation was identical to Hamer's last Summer. He was the star midfielder in a team that reached the play-off final, an all round box-to-box midfielder.
Mobile, gets his foot in and has a bit of quality in his left foot. Maybe not a big physical presence but neither was Fleck in 19/20 and he went well in the PL.

If you ignore
(1) what Forest paid for him (he was in the final year of his deal and Hudds had financial issues),
(2) that he couldn't get into Forest's side (their transfer policy was scattergun and barnpot) and
(3) that he's ginger and has an unglamorous surname...

then you'd probably rate him.

Hamer & O'Brien would be top additions for us at c. £20m.
If we're going down the road of "fuck it, we're going down anyway, let's build for the future" - and everything says we are doing... this is how to rebuild.

Agreed. Whether O'Brien could make the step up to the PL or not is up for question, but he's the right type to do so. I think he could be the Fleck of 5 years ago on the left hand side of the 3. Plus, if we go down, we know we have a leading Championship midfielder on our hands. I think he'd be a great signing, but I don't doubt that Forest are playing silly bastards with us. Whilst £10m would get us him now, I've no doubt that goes down closer to £5m as the deadline approaches.

Has Hamer been linked with us anywhere beyond idle speculation and on here?

I'll have to have a look, but I'm sure I've checked and compared previously and Hamers expected goals and assists are much higher than O'Brien's when he was in the championship.

Could be wrong tho.

What's the thought process on this?
Shouldn't it be of as much concern if we're not in for players that are available at a reasonable price that we know about and that would improve us?
In your opinion Captain although I suspect you're not party to all the details - required fee and structure, contract acceptance (wage demand + add-ons, willingness to accept reduction in the even of relegation), agent demands, personal situation (family etc.) etc etc.

For whatever reason, the club don't appear interested in him (and neither are any other Prem club it would seem) and I therefore foresee another case where dummies are spat if/when he goes elsewhere.

Josh Laurent is a good example from last year and Ilias Chair has the potential to be another this year.

What the fuck is a sensible post doing on here.............

100% agree

We have had no midfield for some time now (exc McAtee/Doyle)

A new midfield of Slimane/Hamer/O'Brien/Souza would be amazing (c. £35m), and certainly soften the #29 hammerblow

agreed about hamer and obrien offer forest 5m with 3m add on if we stay up if they wont accept that move on to plan b
