Could be a load of nothing but one of our academy players who is also Brazilian has just started following him. Could be a load of nothing but I did see somewhere that someone said he’d been to shirecliffe today. Don’t shoot the messenger though

Let's face it Berge could do two things , pass short and have 2 or 3 runs down the right wing beating the full back and winning the odd corner , we deserve more / better . The list of what he could not do is greater , although he was good to watch , but a luxury player who only performs when a team dominates

Berge is the only player left at the club (at the moment) who can resist being pressed. Every other player can't handle it. This press resistance is massive but people aren't ready for that conversation because it doesn't translate directly into goals/assists (it will at a better team). That's what needs addressing, because right now, it's so easy to play against us and we will turn possession over every time.

I don't see that on any stats , press resistant!

I think Berge has some talent but lacks the Baldock mentality. He never once got hold of a game and bossed it. Never! If he couldn't do that in the Championship he certaily won't in the Premiership. Burnley must be mad
One thing that was really frustrating about berge is he never used his strength besides when driving with the ball. I’m not slagging him off because i definitely would prefer him to still be at the club when the transfer window ends but he never seemed to have that aggression and physicality which United fans love when defending

Great point. Coulibaly has this in his locker too, but he's hardly tried and tested!
I honestly can't think of anyone else

Which Premier League club would sign Souza and not include a relegation wage clause? I’d be amazed if Burnley didn’t include one.

Surely it must be the percentage, which I’d like to think can be agreed with a little bit of compromise on both sides.
Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea…

Which we love until we go down to ten men

Yes a very good point.

So true.
I’ve heard this Souza bloke can tackle , win the ball and head the ball in an aerial challenge - none of which Berge could do.
Over the moon Brian if we get Souza
Yeh, the magical formula that’s going to keep us up lol

I do get your point. But I'd it was choice of a viera/ Kean and a Carrick and we can't have both, then when tough gets rough we need the leader type more
Vieira was one of the most press resistant midfielders ever! We do need leaders, but Norwood is a leader, but he can't handle being pressed. If we constantly turn the ball over in midfield, or don't have the the players capable of dealing with the ball under pressure we will be defending all game and will concede in most games if there's no outlet. (Pumping it to mcburnie, or into the channels for traore is not an outlet that will cut it in the premier League) I'm hoping that the incoming midfielders do possess this skill that berge has (even if it is to a lesser extent) FWIW I do think slimane shows glimpses of having that ability but needs time.

Agreed

As much as I’m disappointed about Berge, if we are looking to break up play and hit teams on the counter this guy might be better suited. Would have been nice to see them both in the squad like.

We lack a ball winner which highlights what Berge lacks and makes us confused whether to play him deep or advanced.
So in our predicament he becomes something of a luxury.
Souza appears to be a genuine destroyer/ball winner which is even more essential for this season compared to last.
When you bring in the contracts 2024 cliff edge , I would certainly trade Berge in.
Then we need the other creative players we’ve all discussed , hopefully on 3 or 4 year contracts.
Only one midfielder from City can be a loan.
Then a striker or two , one of which might be Archer on loan

Souza (10m)
O'Brien/Hamer (10m)

Palmer (loan)
Akpom (8m)

Archer (loan)

I'd be very happy with that. Especially if we can get Hamer. Even more so if we can convince Tillman that a greasy chip butty is way better than putting mayo on chips

Others will come in , lol
Are you sure?? And even so the point is we are a championship club with the odd promotion and very little more

We never get further because we never, due to whatever reasons, ever produce sides with more technical ability than work rate

At some point if you ever want more for longer this needs to change
