No chance he starts on sat should he join in time. Expect to see Osborn in that midfield 😬
I was expecting him to start alongside Slimane and Osborne tbf - considering Norwood had his stitches out and was told to avoid heading when he played Stuttgart saturday, wasn't expecting him 100%

Because, and bear with me a minute here, Berge doesnt want to sign a contract with us.
By power of deduction, that's evidently the case aye. It's such a poor move for his career and I thought the only reason he was going was due to a much improved salary. That may still be the case, and Burnley just aren't willing to splash the cash on Souza but are happy to for Sander. His better move would be to sign for another year with a relegation clause imo.

One of these does not imply the other?
No, just basing it on Nixon saying Berge wants a pay rise in his extension that we're not willing to give him and that his reported Burnley contract is also 40k. Obvs Nixon isnt often 100% correct and I'm also assuming there aren't other reasons Berge would rather go to Burnley.

Only thing is, they will probably stay up and he's playing for kompany. That might be the pull

Possibly mate. Although he'd be then tying himself into a contract with a possible but not guaranteed Premier league team for however many seasons. I mentioned it in the other thread but the Norway coach has said many times that he needs a good Premier league team to get regular game time in the national side. Tying himself to a team that although has a lesser chance than us of going down, is still going to be around that part of the table, just seems bizarre. Even if it's us who are almost trying to force the move, he could easily not agree terms with Burnley and leave on a free next year. It's his best move by far. I really don't see his/his agent's logic on this one if he goes (unless it's a single season contract, which is essentially impossible when the buying club is dropping 12m on him).

How can we offer souza a better wage than Burnley but we're selling Berge to them because they can offer him a better contract?
And if this Souza is going to be a better player than Berge, why have Burnley allegedly stood aside.

I’m guessing Burnley showing interest in Souza was a ploy to get Berge, never intended to sign him. Can’t match wages we are offering but can give Berge what he wants? Dunt stack up

I was going to say exactly that... and drive the wages up to weaken us further.

Maybe it's a simple case of us rating Souza more highly than they do?

First time (I think) Sky Sports have mentioned this one. They're slow to everything and don't report on moves unless there's some genuine traction going on. Fingers crossed.

I wouldnt be surprised if we had a couple of players already agreed before agreeing this move, there is a lot of negativity out there, understandable

will be interesting to see what this squad looks like come Sept 1st

We well have a squad that’s unrecognisable from last season with no momentum, morale and any chance of staying up.
That’s my bet anyway!

Souza is a significantly different player to Berge too. So there's always a chance that Burnley want both.

If we sell Berge, this lad is certainly not a replacement.

The Souza signing (if that is who PH really wanted) should have been tied up weeks ago. We are reactive rather then being proactive.
Funny you should mention that - that's how I described our performance on Saturday. Everyone stood around waiting for something to happen with absolutely no anticipation. It must be in the club's DNA
