intrigued to know where you have heard that from, especially the structure of the deal?
I'm not a shout it all about itker but had a beer with an ex member of the first team staff last night, he has always proved to be a solid source

I'd like to put myself in the "beavers handbag" bracket

Paul Heckingbottom himself has stated that Illiman has conducted himself in exemplary fashion throughout this whole saga.

And yet many still want to have a pop at him. Both on here and across social media, where he is being referred to as a "snake" and a "rat" for making a decision about his professional future.

The farewell statement he posted exuded class and a heartfelt affection towards United. Yet many still can't resist being bitter cunts.

Grace and dignity are often rare commodities to be found among this fanbase. Today has certainly been proof of that. There's some right fucking otters pockets who attach themselves to this club.

We also have a weird minority who almost immediately start playing down how good he actually is, they've done it with other sales in the past. I think it's like a poor attempt at a coping mechanism.

There is absolutely no need for anyone to sling abuse at him, but that is normally a minority.

Most of the criticism I had seen (and agreed with) was regarding the nature of the exit, and the last minute change of mind when we were on the verge of getting him to stay. It just felt particularly cruel, compared to if he had just made his mind up early and gone, but I suppose Marseille not actually putting in a proper bid until late in the day didn't help on that front. I do think that they, and his agent have been sneaky cunts throughout this and played everyone.

All that being said, I actually felt much better after listening to PH tonight, and his take on things, and ultimately I wish Illy all the best. Olympique Marseille can sink into the fucking sea as far as I am concerned though, obviously years from now after Illy has moved on.

Yeah I would agree that they way it unfolded was particularly painful.

Then again the reverse has happened for us before. Billy Sharp turned down much better options to come here, and Chris Wilder had all but signed and sealed the deal to manage Charlton when we came calling in the last minute.

Sometimes the heart overrules the head, even in a cut-throat business like football.

But yes, Marseille and all contained within her can get absolutely fucked straight to hell.

The same happened with Wilder.

I think people do get more comfort from slagging them off even though they did nothing but good. Each to their own.

End of the day, he cost us nothing, got us to the Premier League, earned us a £20m fee with a year left on his deal and we paid him buttons. And he left to join his boyhood club and make his dream come true - no head turned by the money or daft gone to Villa/Forest blood boiling nonsense.
Sad that I won't get to see him have a go for us in the Prem and we will be weaker, and there's certainly a case to be made of £20m now vs seeing him dance around and give some proper players a headache for a year (and it would have only been a year) before he goes for nowt. But the rest of it, in isolation, and now I've moved on a bit from the emotional nosedive that comes with seeing him go, is an iron rescued from the fire in my opinion.

All really helpful perspective mate.

Except, as I've said all along, this isn't just about N'Diaye for me. Instead, it's firmly shone the spotlight on how badly we are being run as a club. Now, I'm really worried about that. Are other promising youngsters tied down? Will Jebbo, Osula, Berge, others stay? Will the prince learn from this? Or are we about to see the same pattern painfully repeat itself a few times in quick succession. I fear we may, I think that's a very good possibility.

For that reason, the owner needs to reduce his asking price, get a sale, and leave. Then a new owner with ambition and backing needs to come in, to restore the belief, to tie the young stars down to long-term contracts and to give the squad something to be excited about, in terms of recruitment.

I think now that the dust is settling a little on the Ndiaye sale, I’d share my thoughts. I no longer have Facebook and Twitter and haven’t followed this thread in too much depth over the summer and I think it’s helped me to keep a slightly more objective view on the transfer dealings in general, as well as the Ndiaye saga. I’ve gained more interest as it got closer to his move to Marseille becoming a reality.

I have no affiliation or strong feelings towards or against the Prince, certainly no negativity against Hecky or Ndiaye. So I will try to keep objective.

The Prince
Not seen any comments or input from him, so I will remain neutral on his involvements

The Club
Offered a deal according to Hecky, the PR was ready to go and they felt that they’d done all they could.

Hecky
Thought he’s handled it well, post-sale. I didn’t see too much from him during the speculation. But it sounds like he was very instrumental in the development on Ndiaye over the last couple of years and has no doubt contributed to his rise. A lot of credit has to go to Hecky and his Coaching staff.

The Deal
My personal view is that it was almost inevitable that we had to get the best deal we could as Ndiaye was on countdown with his contract expiring.

Ndiaye
I have absolutely zero negativity towards him. As Hecky mentioned, the move for Ndiaye wasn’t taken out of professional reasons, it was his dream move and it is a huge thing for him. Marseille are perhaps not the biggest club in Europe, but they’re a big club for Ndiaye.

Ndiaye is perhaps the most special talent I’ve seen in a Blades shirt in my 45 years. He came to us via a very unique route and for whatever reason, he ended up with our club as a raw talent needing development. We have developed him to be the player he is and we’ve made a decent amount of money for him. Not the maximum, but a very strong return on the investment. He came to us having really reached the last chance, he leaves having played in the World Cup for a team playing Champions League Football. It highlights very much the state of our own club.

Ndiaye’s attitude, in my opinion, was never in question. Right up until the weekend, he was playing friendlies for us. Yes there is selfish attitude to be match fit for his new club, but also he could’ve requested not to play and risk injury.

Conclusion
I’m extremely disappointed to lose him. He was a huge part of why we’re now playing in the Premier League, he could’ve left sooner and whilst he’s left having not finished the job for us, he’s taken an opportunity to go onto a club which is a dream for him, so I can’t really complain too much.

I don’t want to see him stall in his career and personally I think he’d probably been better with a season with United before getting a bigger move. There is a risk that his career could stall, but I think his overall attitude and desire will drive him forward, with the right coaching he could be a real talent playing at the very top. Only time will tell if he’s taken a decision to move with his heart over his head. I personally want to see him play at the top and wish him all the best, but I am not sure whether Marseille is the right platform since French football is not as competitive as the Premier League or Serie A. His game suits English football.

I’ll personally be watching his career with interest.

Just a thought on Illy's motives.

After his fairly average World Cup performances was he worried that if he was found out to be just an average Premier League player his chances of joining Marseille in the future would diminish?
im amazed he doesnt have more confidence in himself. because we all know 1 year in premier league & he could have had the pick of all the top european clubs

Just to be clear: a player under contract can't 'force a move' anywhere. We sold Ndiaye because the club accepted a bid from Marseille. Not because he forced a move. We could have dug our heels in. We could have, I dunno, rejected Marseille's bid?

It shouldn't matter though. A vaguely well-run club wouldn't let their best player go into the last 12 months of his contract.

I guess it's all nasty Iliman's fault though. Never the club's fault. Never the owner's fault.
Him and his advisors wouldn't enter talks last season to keep his options open
Funny you forgot the bit where he verbally agreed a deal, did a vid then changed his mind

Maybe having played against an England team (All Prem players) he decided to go while his reputation was still on a high....?.. :tumbleweed:

€145! Also the massive orange sponsor looks awful

I genuinely think the kid couldn’t make his mind up. It’s done us no favours whatsoever but I think we very nearly got him to stay. Which in itself shows how invested in us he had become.

Marseille’s Bettis equivalent blatantly played the game and used his emotional attachment to OM in their favour. Seen all sorts of rumours ranging from his Dad getting a bung to OM using blackmailing tactics. Guess we’ll never know on that front.

I’m gutted and feel full of sorrow, which I thought I was way too old for. He was too good for us. Way too good. Looking back at last season it feels like the majority of games I went to just watch him. He made all the other players look so average. Yeah I know “why can’t we sustain success with more of these players”. I dunno - we just can’t/won’t. Or maybe we will. I’m waffling now.

I’m not gonna let a few jobless internet mongs make me hate Marseille. Iliman was simply sublime so they’re my new French team.
