is there a definitive answer on whether "so called" fans or so called "fans" would be the correct way to use quotation marks? im confused.

also...i was in the post office yesterday. i noticed they have a cabinet marked as "collectibles". whilst in the queue i pondered that. i was pretty sure i always spell it "collectables". i think of them as something one is able to collect. collect-ables. i dont think ive ever seen it written as collectibles before. now i google it, it says both are correct spellings. since always? or is it a new fangled thing??

I think "so called" fan would imply doubt over whether the subject is referred to as a 'fan' by the person describing.

Whereas so called "fan" would cast doubt over the subject's allegiance to a football club (in this instance).

He inherited a shite squad when he came to us, devoid of any confidence or belief (anyone could have beaten us) and got us winning games. We lost our four best players in the summer and we're still 4th, in with a shout of automatic promotion. Yeh you're right he's a shit manager

Unfortunately, you get judged in this life on your immediate past track record not what happened 15 years ago - recent history shows that at Swindon, MK Dons, Hartlepool and Bristol City he failed - last year with probably the most expensive squad and a centre forward who cost a lot of money from a Premier League team and scored 35 goals still failed to get promotion.
Unfortunately Patrick, there are not many managers about in football today that can point to their only success 15 years ago!

I suppose it depends how you quantify failure. If Wilson is considered a failure then most managers in the FL would fall under the same category.

Oh he won promotion with Hartlepool as well by the way (2006-07).

If you could tinker with it slightly, so it didn't come up with a cheating bastard who spoilt a perfectly nice day out at Highbury, then you might be onto a winner.

I thought Frijo had made some fantastic points the only issue I had with the post was that I had to get my Nephew to translate it for me.

Ive read a lot of the posts about DW but he took over a relegated club and moulded them into a side in his first season into an exiting footballing side

Second season he has the heart of the squad ripped out but he still has us in a strong position
If there was forums in the old days with the likes of Haslam,Peters etc the mind bogles.
